This work presents an analysis of the annular ring microstrip antennas printed on uniaxial anisotropic substrates and with superstrate.The analysis uses the full-wave formulation by means of the Hertz vector potentials method, in the Hankel transform domain. The definition of the Hertz vector potentials and the application of the appropriate boundary conditions to the structure allow determining the dyadic Green functions, relating the current densities in the conducting patch to the transforms of the tangential electric field components. Galerkin s method is then used to obtain the matrix equation whose nontrivial solution gives the complex resonant frequency of the antenna. From the modeling, it is possible to obtain results for the resonant frequency, bandwidth and quality factor, as a function of several parameters of the antenna, for different configurations. We have considered annular ring microstrip antennas on a single dielectric layer, antennas with two anisotropic dielectric layers, and annular ring microstrip antennas on suspended substrates. Numerical results for the resonant frequency of the these structures printed on isotropic substrates are also presented and compared with those published by other authors, showing a good agreement

The urban drainage is one of the powers of environmental sanitation and its scope is the quantitative and qualitative aspects. In decision making of managers and the engineering aspects of design are almost always taken into account only the quantitative aspects. However, the waters of the runoff have the highest concentrations of pollutants at the beginning of precipitation. Thus, if the plot pollution removed, the remaining portion can be used for other purposes. This work has aimed to present the variation of water quality of two drainage basins in the city of Natal / RN-Brazil to support the implementation of drainage to consider the qualitative aspect, and identify potential for the use of water. The basins (M and C) are analyzed closed-type, are in the urban area, are predominantly residential occupation and its waters are used for detention ponds and infiltration. The samples were divided into three phases, the first two direct to final points in a basin and the third in traps distributed over the surface drainage. The parameters had been analyzed were pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, Color, Turbidity, COD, Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, orthophosphate, Sediments solids, total solids, chloride, sulfate, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, Heavy Metals (Chromium, Cadmium, Lead, Zinc and Copper), Eschichia coli and total coliforms. The parameters studied showed high initial pollution load, events and located in different proportions, except nitrite, heavy metals and biological indicators. The size of the surface drainage and topographic its features influence the quality of water. However, the form of sampling is crucial in the qualitative study in the basin. The samplers developed at work, were generated economic and representative results. The urban rainwater presents organic faecal indicators. The runoff of water from both basins shows no risk of salinity and sodicity for use in irrigation, should be noted the content of chloride in the choice of method of irrigation

Micro-cube-shaped lead zirconate titanate was synthesized using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. Photoluminescence and field emission scanning electron microscopy were used for monitoring the formation of mesocrystals. Based on these results, a growth mechanism was then proposed which involved nanoparticle aggregation, nanoplate self-assembly on specific architecture and the final formation of mesoscopic micro-cube-shaped lead zirconate titanate. O solo do pólo cerâmico no município de Santa Gertrudes, SP, tem sido poluído há décadas por diversos elementos químicos, principalmente chumbo e zinco. Foram realizadas quatro coletas de amostras de solo, duas durante a época chuvosa e duas na seca, em cinco locais, de novembro de 2002 a junho de 2003, determinando-se temperatura, pH, teores de chumbo e zinco e a umidade do solo. Os fungos foram isolados pelo método de Warcup, modificado pelo preparo de suspensões aquosas de solo (1:10) e aplicação de 1 cm³ das suspensões sobre malte agar (2%), adicionado de Zn(NO3)2 e Pb(NO3)2 em concentrações crescentes: 0, 100, 200, 500 e 1.000 mg dm-3. Após cinco dias de incubação a 25 ºC, as colônias foram purificadas e identificadas. Foram obtidos 70 táxons de fungos anamorfos, com 70% de similaridade entre as micotas obtidas nos meios com os dois metais. Foram isolados 43 táxons nos meios de cultura com Pb(NO3)2, com predominância deles nas concentrações mais elevadas (500 a 1.000 mg dm-3). Foram obtidos 63 táxons nos meios com Zn(NO3)2, principalmente nas concentrações moderada e elevada (200 e 500 mg dm-3). Prevaleceram espécies de Trichoderma, de Penicillium e diversos fungos que são encontrados associados a substratos vegetais em decomposição. A tendência de se obter número elevado de táxons em meios de cultura com concentrações moderadas a elevadas de Zn e Pb pode ser justificada pela existência de bem adaptada e competitiva micota do solo, caracterizada por elevada capacidade de tolerância aos metais e eficiente habilidade sapróbia competitiva.

In this work we report the synthesis procedure, crystallographic, structural and magnetic properties of the Li2ZnTi3O8 spinel obtained using a modified polymeric precursor method. This synthesis method generates very reactive and property-controlled nanoparticles. The samples were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) associated to the Rietveld refinement method, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), specific surface area, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and magnetic susceptibility measurements.The phase formation temperature of the lithium zinc titanate spinel was observed to decrease due to the homogeneity and highly controlled nanometric particle size. Composites polymer-ceramic using castor oil-based polyurethane (PU) as non-ferroelectric matrix and Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) as ceramic powder have been prepared at thin films form by spin coating. The samples are poled by appropriated electric field to show piezo and pyroelectric activity. The pyroelectric coefficient p(T) at 343 K is obtained to be equal 5.8 X 10(-5) C m(-2) K-1 for a composite with 32 vol.% of ceramic. The figure of merit of this composite is six times higher than of PZT ceramic. The voltage responsivity of the pyroelectric is reduced when the thickness of the sample increases. It was used modulated white light as radiation source to excite the sensor film. The electric signal of the sensor decreases with the light modulation frequency by 1/f. (C) 1999 Elsevier B.V. S.A. The polymeric precursor method was used to synthesize lead zirconate titanate powder (PZT). The crystalline powder was then amorphized by a high-energy ball milling process during 120h. A strong photoluminescence emission was observed at room temperature for the amorphized PZT powder. The powders were characterized by XRD and the percentage of amorphous phase was calculated through Rietveld refinement. The microstructure for both phases was investigated by TEM. The optical gap was calculated through the Wood and Tauc method using the UV-Vis. data. Quantum mechanical calculations were carried out to give an interpretation of the photoluminescence in terms of electronic structure. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper describes two simple thermal methods for measuring the energy fluence in J/cm 2 from a diagnostic x-ray exposure. Both detectors absorb essentially 100% of the radiation and give a signal that is directly proportional to the energy fluence of the x-ray beam. One detector measures the thermal effect when a pulse of x rays is totally absorbed in the pyroelectric detector of lead-zirconium-titanate (PZT). The other detector measures the expansion of a gas surrounding a lead disk detector in a photoacoustic chamber. The increased pressure of the gas is transmitted through a 1-mm duct to a sensitive microphone. Both detectors have previously been used to measure the energy fluence rate of continuous x-ray beams in the same energy region using a chopped beam and a lock-in amplifier. Measurement of the energy fluence of a pulse of radiation eliminates the need for the beam chopper and lock-in amplifier and results in a simple, rugged, and inexpensive dosimeter. Either method can be combined with the area of the beam to give an estimate of the imparted energy to the patient from a diagnostic x-ray exposure.

The phase formation mechanism, as well as the morphotropic phase boundary, of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) processed by a partial oxalate method was investigated by simultaneous thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and by qualitative and quantitative X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that the ZrxTi1-xO2 (ZT) phase reacts with PbO forming the PZT phase without intermediate phases. XRD analysis showed the coexistence of rhombohedral and tetragonal phases for 0.47 ≤ x ≤ 0.55 with the phase boundary composition for x = 0.51. For low calcination temperatures, preferential formation of the PZT rhombohedral phase was observed. A model for phase formation of PZT by the partial oxalate method is proposed based on the existence of two interfaces of reaction (PbO-PZT and PZT-ZT) and diffusion of cations.
