Se señala la importancia de la inclusión en el currículo ordinario de actividades que permitan al alumnado reflexionar sobre su persona, analizar los valores propios, estimar y valorar sus capacidades y potencialidades, explicitar sus intereses y clarificar sus expectativas, para conformar una imagen acertada de si mismo y para orientar sus decisiones de futuro. El programa 'Elijo' está diseñado como un complemento para posibilitar que el alumnado transfiera y utilice las capacidades de decisión vocacional que ha debido ir adquiriendo a través de los contenidos vocacionales integrados en el currículo de la E.S.O. Se plantean tres elementos importantes: el autoconocimiento de las propias capacidades, la información sobre las alternativas que se le ofrecen, y la toma de decisión. Se incluye un cuaderno para el alumnado en el que los elementos del programa se estructuran en siete pasos fundamentales que contienen cuestionarios y plantillas para la interpretación de resultados, abundante información académica y actividades de síntesis y reflexión en diferentes grupos.

I. Estudio de campo para evaluar las condiciones de aprendizaje de lectura y escritura. II. Revisar la hipótesis sobre correlación alta entre variables intrasujeto y éxito en el aprendizaje lectoescrito. III. Comprobar hipótesis de que las variables extrasujeto en el aprendizaje lectoescrito en EGB tienen influencia mayor que las variables intrasujeto (apoyo la noción de dislexia) en niños con inteligencia normal y sin trastornos sensoriales. I. Estudio de las condiciones de aprendizaje: población de primero y segundo EGB de Cádiz provincia: encuesta. Responden también maestros de primero y segundo en 144 centros. I,II y III. Revisión de las correlaciones extra e intrasujeto con el éxito escolar: muestra de 292 ss., primero y segundo de EGB. Muestreo estratificado. Margen de error 5. I. Encuesta por correo que evalúa: movilidad del profesorado, alumnos repetidores, método de lectoescritura empleado, distribución del tiempo de lectura y escritura en la clase y evaluación en los alumnos del cuadro sintomático de dislexia. Movilidad del profesorado, método de enseñanza, distribución del tiempo y zona geográfica de residencia actuan como variables independientes la presencia de síntomas del cuadro clínico de dislexia actúa como variable dependiente. II y III. Pruebas de lateralidad, sincinesias, esquema corporal y lenguaje oral. Los datos para cada variable se dicotomizan. Los valores se correlacionan con los tres niveles de presencia de síntomas disléxicos. 1. Los profesores perciben todas las dificultades en el aprendizaje de la lectoescritura en el 14'11 por ciento de los alumnos de primero y en el 7'35 de los de segundo. Distribución por zonas geográficas no significativa. Datos similares a otros estudios. Respecto al método empleado (el más frecuente es el analítico) no parece relacionarse con las dificultades de aprendizaje. La relación de la movilidad del profesorado con las dificultades de aprendizaje son débiles. Tiempo dedicado a lectura y escritura es mayor en actividades que no exigen control inmediato del profesor. Alumnos con dificultades es probable que las incrementen al llegar a segundo. 2. Variables evaluadas afectan a los grupos con todas o algunas dificultades y, en menor medida, al grupo de ninguna. Estas variables no correlacionan con las referidas a las dificultades en lectoescritura. Crítica a los intentos para explicar la dislexia. Es necesaria una estrategia nueva de aproximación (factorial) que evalúe el efecto de variables extrasujeto, dado que las intrasujeto no tienen relación con los problemas de lectoescritura. El cuadro disléxico es similar al que presentan los niños en los momentos iniciales del aprendizaje. La explicación radicaría en un proceso de aprendizaje inacabado o mal realizado. Los métodos de reeducación no suponen una actuación directa sobre las disfunciones señaladas, en realidad son métodos de lectoescritura mejor planificados e individualizados que acaban incluyéndose en el currículum general.

Nos dias de hoje, a luta contra a discriminação e o combate ao preconceito têm tido grandes conquistas em diversas áreas, assistindo-se a uma certa evolução numa sociedade com uma visão cada vez mais humana. Os cidadãos portadores de deficiência, apesar de terem estado à margem da sociedade por muitos e longos anos, começam a ter voz nas questões sociais e quotidianas. Paralelamente, uma sociedade cada vez mais globalizada evoca a necessidade de uma maior aposta na educação e formação dos cidadãos em prol de uma vida mais justa e igualitária. Assim, as pessoas com deficiência deverão, mais do que nunca, tentar equipar-se e dotar-se de todo um conjunto de meios possíveis que possibilitem o seu êxito profissional, bem como o sentimento de realização pessoal e social no trabalho que desempenham. Em virtude da importância que se dá no contexto actual à transição para a vida activa de jovens com deficiência pretende-se, com este projecto de investigação, compreender, analisar e optimizar as áreas de competência adquiridas, em aquisição e não adquiridas de um grupo de alunos com Deficiência Intelectual em formação prática em contexto de trabalho.

The development of an urban property in the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum (Silchester, Hampshire, England) is traced from the late 1st to the mid-3rd century AD. Three successive periods of building with their associated finds of artefacts and biological remains are described and interpreted with provisional reconstructions of the buildings. Links are provided to a copy of the Integrated Archaeological Database (IADB), archived by the Archaeology Data Service, which holds the primary excavation and finds records.

Seventeen-month-old infants were presented with pairs of images, in silence or with the non-directive auditory stimulus 'look!'. The images had been chosen so that one image depicted an item whose name was known to the infant, and the other image depicted an image whose name was not known to the infant. Infants looked longer at images for which they had names than at images for which they did not have names, despite the absence of any referential input. The experiment controlled for the familiarity of the objects depicted: in each trial, image pairs presented to infants had previously been judged by caregivers to be of roughly equal familiarity. From a theoretical perspective, the results indicate that objects with names are of intrinsic interest to the infant. The possible causal direction for this linkage is discussed and it is concluded that the results are consistent with Whorfian linguistic determinism, although other construals are possible. From a methodological perspective, the results have implications for the use of preferential looking as an index of early word comprehension.

Purpose of review Lipid rafts are potentially modifiable by diet, particularly (but not exclusively) by dietary fatty acids. This review examines the potential for dietary modification of raft structure and function in the immune system, brain and retinal tissue, the gut, and in cancer cells. Recent findings In-vitro and ex-vivo studies suggest that dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) may exert immunosuppressive and anticancer effects through changes in lipid raft organization. In addition, gangliosides and cholesterol may modulate lipid raft organization in a number of tissues, and recent work has highlighted sphingolipids in membrane microdomains as potential targets for inhibition of tumor growth. The roles of fatty acids and gangliosides, especially in relation to lipid rafts, in cognitive development, age-related cognitive decline, psychiatric disorders, and Alzheimer’s disease are poorly understood and require further investigation. The roles of lipid rafts in cancer, in microbial pathogenesis, and in insulin resistance are starting to emerge, and indicate compelling evidence for the growing importance of membrane microdomains in health and disease. Summary In-vitro and animal studies show that n-3 PUFAs, cholesterol, and gangliosides modulate the structure and composition of lipid rafts, potentially influencing a wide range of biological processes, including immune function, neuronal signaling, cancer cell growth, entry of pathogens through the gut barrier, and insulin resistance in metabolic disorders. The physiological, clinical, and nutritional relevance of these observations remains to be determined.

1. Suction sampling is a popular method for the collection of quantitative data on grassland invertebrate populations, although there have been no detailed studies into the effectiveness of the method. 2. We investigate the effect of effort (duration and number of suction samples) and sward height on the efficiency of suction sampling of grassland beetle, true bug, planthopper and spider Populations. We also compare Suction sampling with an absolute sampling method based on the destructive removal of turfs. 3. Sampling for durations of 16 seconds was sufficient to collect 90% of all individuals and species of grassland beetles, with less time required for the true bugs, spiders and planthoppers. The number of samples required to collect 90% of the species was more variable, although in general 55 sub-samples was sufficient for all groups, except the true bugs. Increasing sward height had a negative effect on the capture efficiency of suction sampling. 4. The assemblage structure of beetles, planthoppers and spiders was independent of the sampling method (suction or absolute) used. 5. Synthesis and applications. In contrast to other sampling methods used in grassland habitats (e.g. sweep netting or pitfall trapping), suction sampling is an effective quantitative tool for the measurement of invertebrate diversity and assemblage structure providing sward height is included as a covariate. The effective sampling of beetles, true bugs, planthoppers and spiders altogether requires a minimum sampling effort of 110 sub-samples of duration of 16 seconds. Such sampling intensities can be adjusted depending on the taxa sampled, and we provide information to minimize sampling problems associated with this versatile technique. Suction sampling should remain an important component in the toolbox of experimental techniques used during both experimental and management sampling regimes within agroecosystems, grasslands or other low-lying vegetation types.
