OBJETIVO: Analisar a prevalência de insatisfação corporal em adolescentes e sua relação com idade, sexo e estado nutricional. MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por escolares do Ensino Médio de municípios com até cinco mil habitantes de Minas Gerais. O Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) e a Escala Evaluacíon de Insatisfacíon Corporal para Adolescentes (EEICA) avaliaram a insatisfação corporal. A idade, o sexo, o peso e a estatura, para o cálculo do índice de massa corporal, foram coletados nas escolas. Para análises estatísticas foram utilizados testes de variância e análise de correspondência. RESULTADOS: Dos 413 participantes, 49,2% e 50,8% estavam no período intermediário e final da adolescência, respectivamente. Desse total, 178 eram meninos e 235 eram meninas e a maioria (71,9%), eutrófico. A média do BSQ foi de 66,78 ± 29,63 pontos, sendo que 26,4% apresentaram algum nível de insatisfação corporal e, pela EEICA, a média de insatisfação foi de 17,96 ± 11,7 pontos. As análises de correspondência simples e múltipla indicaram o sexo e o estado nutricional como modalidades com maiores diferenças de insatisfação corporal. CONCLUSÃO: Apesar de baixa prevalência de insatisfação corporal, alguns adolescentes apresentaram grave insatisfação com sua imagem corporal, principalmente as meninas e adolescentes com sobrepeso ou obesidade.

The stem cell niche organization and dynamics provide valuable cues for the development of mimetic environments that could have potential to stimulate the regenerative process. We propose the use of biodegradable biomaterials to produce closed miniaturised structures able to encapsulate different cell types or bioactive molecules. In particular, capsules are fabricated using the so-called layer-by-layer technology, where the consecutive (nano-sized) layers are well stabilized by electrostatic interactions or other weak forces. Using alginate-based spherical templates containing cells or other elements (e.g. proteins, magnetic nanoparticles, microparticles) it is possible to produce liquefied capsules that may entrap the entire cargo under mild conditions. The inclusion of liquefied micropcapsules may be used to produce hierarchical compartmentalised systems for the delivery of bioactive agents. The presence of solid microparticles inside such capsules offers adequate surface area for adherent cell attachment increasing the biological performance of these hierarchical systems, while maintain both permeability and injectability. We demonstrated that the encapsulation of distinct cell types (including mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial cells) enhances the osteogenic capability of this system, that could be useful in bone tissue engineering applications.

OBJETIVO: Identificar os perfis clínico/angiográfico e relacionados ao procedimento de pacientes com angina instável atendidos em um hospital terciário e tratados por meio de intervenções coronarianas percutâneas. MÉTODOS: Estudo de uma casuística consecutiva de 1.413 pacientes, selecionados a partir de um banco de dados informatizado e revascularizados percutaneamente no triênio 2002-2004. Não houve critérios de inclusão/exclusão. RESULTADOS: Hipertensão arterial sistêmica (74%) e hipercolesterolemia (65%) foram os fatores de risco clássicos para doença coronariana mais observados. Antecedentes de infarto do miocárdio e cirurgia de revascularização miocárdica foram respectivamente observados em 28% e 24% dos casos. Os subgrupos mais comumente tratados foram o IIB (48%) e IIIB (28%). O clopidogrel foi prescrito a 51% dos pacientes, enquanto os inibidores IIb IIIa foram utilizados em 7%. Doença coronariana multiarterial na cinecoronariografia diagnóstica ocorreu em 42% dos casos. Lesões-alvo tipo B2 ou C foram tratadas em 64%, das quais 94% situavam-se em vasos naturais. Lesões reestenóticas foram dilatadas em 5% dos pacientes. Todas as intervenções foram realizadas utilizando os stents coronarianos, a maioria dos quais (67%) do tipo convencional. CONCLUSÕES: 1) os subgrupos IIB e IIIB foram os mais comumente tratados (76%); 2) o clopidogrel foi o antitrombótico mais prescrito (51%); 3) a coronariopatia multiarterial foi observada em 42% dos casos, com predomínio de lesões-alvo complexas e situadas em vasos naturais; 4) a técnica de dilatação predominante foi o implante dos stents coronarianos.

FUNDAMENTO: Experiências de serviços em adultos com cardiopatias congênitas não têm sido relatadas no nosso meio. OBJETIVO: Descrever o perfil clínico básico de adultos com cardiopatias congênitas atendidos ambulatorialmente em centro terciário. MÉTODOS: Anotaram-se dados referentes a idade, sexo, procedência, diagnóstico principal e diagnósticos secundários de 413 pacientes atendidos durante sete anos. RESULTADOS: G1 (não tratados): 195 pacientes, 51% mulheres, 57% entre 14 e 30 anos, 80% residentes na região. As cardiopatias mais frequentes foram comunicação interventricular (CIV) (31%), comunicação interatrial (CIA) (29%) e estenose pulmonar (7%). Os diagnósticos secundários predominantes foram hipertensão arterial (9%) e arritmias (5%). G2 (tratados): 218 pacientes, 56% mulheres, 57% entre 14 e 30 anos, 81% residentes na região. As cardiopatias mais frequentemente tratadas foram CIA (36%), tetralogia de Fallot (14%), coarctação da aorta (12%) e CIV (11%). Sessenta e nove (32%) pacientes foram operados na idade adulta. Dezesseis (7%) foram submetidos a um cateterismo intervencionista. Os diagnósticos secundários predominantes foram hipertensão arterial (18%) e arritmias (8%). CONCLUSÃO: Na casuística, predominaram pacientes tratados invasivamente, residentes na região e a maioria com idade abaixo de 40 anos. Defeitos como CIA, CIV e estenose pulmonar predominaram no grupo não tratado, ao passo que, nos tratados, a maioria tinha sido submetida à correção de CIA, tetralogia de Fallot, coarctação da aorta e CIV. Hipertensão arterial e arritmias foram relevantes em ambos os grupos, sendo também registrada grande diversidade de outras comorbidades.

Background: The use of three-dimensional rotational angiography (3D-RA) to assess patients with congenital heart diseases appears to be a promising technique despite the scarce literature available. Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe our initial experience with 3D-RA and to compare its radiation dose to that of standard two-dimensional angiography (2D-SA). Methods: Between September 2011 and April 2012, 18 patients underwent simultaneous 3D-RA and 2D-SA during diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Radiation dose was assessed using the dose-area-product (DAP). Results: The median patient age and weight were 12.5 years and 47.5 Kg, respectively. The median DAP of each 3D-RA acquisition was 1093µGy.m2 and 190µGy.m2 for each 2D-SA acquisition (p<0.01). In patients weighing more than 45Kg (n=7), this difference was attenuated but still significant (1525 µGy.m2 vs.413µGy.m2, p=0.01). No difference was found between one 3D-RA and three 2D-SA (1525µGy.m2 vs.1238 µGy.m2, p = 0.575) in this population. This difference was significantly higher in patients weighing less than 45Kg (n=9) (713µGy.m2 vs.81µGy.m2, P = 0.008), even when comparing one 3D-RA with three 2D-SA (242µGy.m2, respectively, p<0.008). 3D-RA was extremely useful for the assessment of conduits of univentricular hearts, tortuous branches of the pulmonary artery, and aorta relative to 2D-SA acquisitions. Conclusions: The radiation dose of 3D-RA used in our institution was higher than those previously reported in the literature and this difference was more evident in children. This type of assessment is of paramount importance when starting to perform 3D-RA.

The authors carried out joint analyses of data referring to six experiments with varieties of sugar cane, carried out by SEGALLA and ALVAREZ in six locations in the State of S. Paulo, Brasil. The analyses showed that for cane or sugar yield, either for plant-cane or for plant-cane together with the first two ratoons, the best five varieties were CB 40-69, CB 41-76, CB 40-13, CB 40-19 and Co 419. The yield of sugar cane/for all varieties studied is given below, in metric tons produced in plant cane and the first two ratoons. At the 2nd. Department of Zootechny of the E. S. A. L. Q., in Piracicaba, between 1953 and 1955 an experiment of sugar cane varieties was carried out, with the objective of discovering varieties to substitute "Taquara" (the variety most widely used) and Co 290 (the most recommended). The former was condemned as being too susceptible to cane smut and the latter showes signs if degeneracy. In the experiment, 8 varieties were used with 3 replications in randomized blocks, in 3 rows each. The cane was crop not in the same period, but when they were at comparable ripeness (70 cm of apparent culm). They were crop twice during the year, with a sharp hoe near the soil. The summary of the results and the statistical analyses are shown in tables 1 to 3, showing the possibility of there being 3 groups: A superior one composed of Co 419, a median one, in decreasing order of production, composed of Kassoer, CB 40-69. Co 413, IAC 36-25 and POJ 161 and an inferior group composed of Co 290 and Taquara. There is a possibility that POJ 161 belongs to the last group. Nevertheless, this variety is not recommend because of its susceptibility to smut. As Kassoer is more healthy, vigorous and enduring than Co 419 and other varieties, it is shown recommendable. IAC 36-25 is being recommended presently for forage since its productions is lower than Kassoer, placing 5th productivity, although statistical significance was not detected. As our final conclusions, Co 419, Kassoer, CB 40-69, Co 413 and IAC 36-25 can be planted as forage while POJ 161, Co 290 and Taquara should not. The last two were exactly those used as forage reserve in the 2nd. Department at the beginning of the experiment.

According to the hypothesis of Traub, also known as the 'formula of Traub', postmortem values of glucose and lactate found in the cerebrospinal fluid or vitreous humor are considered indicators of antemortem blood glucose levels. However, because the lactate concentration increases in the vitreous and cerebrospinal fluid after death, some authors postulated that using the sum value to estimate antemortem blood glucose levels could lead to an overestimation of the cases of glucose metabolic disorders with fatal outcomes, such as diabetic ketoacidosis. The aim of our study, performed on 470 consecutive forensic cases, was to ascertain the advantages of the sum value to estimate antemortem blood glucose concentrations and, consequently, to rule out fatal diabetic ketoacidosis as the cause of death. Other biochemical parameters, such as blood 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate, acetone, glycated haemoglobin and urine glucose levels, were also determined. In addition, postmortem native CT scan, autopsy, histology, neuropathology and toxicology were performed to confirm diabetic ketoacidosis as the cause of death. According to our results, the sum value does not add any further information for the estimation of antemortem blood glucose concentration. The vitreous glucose concentration appears to be the most reliable marker to estimate antemortem hyperglycaemia and, along with the determination of other biochemical markers (such as blood acetone and 3-beta-hydroxybutyrate, urine glucose and glycated haemoglobin), to confirm diabetic ketoacidosis as the cause of death.

Questions: A multiple plot design was developed for permanent vegetation plots. How reliable are the different methods used in this design and which changes can we measure? Location: Alpine meadows (2430 m a.s.l.) in the Swiss Alps. Methods: Four inventories were obtained from 40 m(2) plots: four subplots (0.4 m(2)) with a list of species, two 10m transects with the point method (50 points on each), one subplot (4 m2) with a list of species and visual cover estimates as a percentage and the complete plot (40 m(2)) with a list of species and visual estimates in classes. This design was tested by five to seven experienced botanists in three plots. Results: Whatever the sampling size, only 45-63% of the species were seen by all the observers. However, the majority of the overlooked species had cover < 0.1%. Pairs of observers overlooked 10-20% less species than single observers. The point method was the best method for cover estimate, but it took much longer than visual cover estimates, and 100 points allowed for the monitoring of only a very limited number of species. The visual estimate as a percentage was more precise than classes. Working in pairs did not improve the estimates, but one botanist repeating the survey is more reliable than a succession of different observers. Conclusion: Lists of species are insufficient for monitoring. It is necessary to add cover estimates to allow for subsequent interpretations in spite of the overlooked species. The choice of the method depends on the available resources: the point method is time consuming but gives precise data for a limited number of species, while visual estimates are quick but allow for recording only large changes in cover. Constant pairs of observers improve the reliability of the records.

Projecte de recerca elaborat a partir d’una estada a la School of Mathematics and Statistics de la University of Plymouth, United Kingdom, entre abril juliol del 2007.Aquesta investigació és encara oberta i la memòria que presento constitueix un informe de la recerca que estem duent a terme actualment. En aquesta nota estudiem els centres isòcrons dels sistemes Hamiltonians analítics, parant especial atenció en el cas polinomial. Ens centrem en els anomenats quadratic-like Hamiltonian systems. Diverses propietats dels centres isòcrons d'aquest tipus de sistemes van ser donades a [A. Cima, F. Mañosas and J. Villadelprat, Isochronicity for several classes of Hamiltonian systems, J. Di®erential Equations 157 (1999) 373{413]. Aquell article estava centrat principalment en el cas en que A; B i C fossin funcions analítiques. El nostre objectiu amb l'estudi que estem duent a terme és investigar el cas en el que aquestes funcions són polinomis. En aquesta nota formulem una conjectura concreta sobre les propietats algebraiques que venen forçades per la isocronia del centre i provem alguns resultats parcials.
