The seminal bag, or seminal receptacle, forms a characteristic organ of cyclopids, serving for retention of the sperms discharged from the spermatophores. The structure of the seminal receptacle, more precisely its form, is fairly widely used in diagnosis and undoubtedly can be more widely applied in the systematics of the group. Within the limits of the family Cyclopidae it is possible to distinguish crustaceans with three basic types of seminal bag. The differences consist of the position which this organ occupies in the genital segment. of one species, we carried out a series of observations on its formation in ontogenesis and during the life of the adult stage. As material for observation the study used laboratory cultures of three species; Acanthocyclops americanus (Marsh) from the plankton of the Moscow River, Cyclops vicinus Uljan and Mesocyclops leuckarti Glaus from the plankton of the channel section of the upper part of the Gorkovsk reservoir. The author concluded that the irreversibility of the changes in the seminal receptacle presents the possibility of utilising this structure as one of the indicators of the growth of the individual.

Application of algal bioassays in the determination of eutrophic power of waste water (”Conclusions” only) [Translation from: 1g.Sanita pubbl. 31 257-267, 1975]

The best evidence for establishing the level of eutrophy of a water-body is its algal production which makes it possible to identify the type and the intensity of the eutrophication according to the kind and number of algal species present: when the number of algae exceeds half a million per litre then one speaks o an ”algal bloom”. The scope of the present research aims to verify if the alga Selenastrum capricornutum can be used as a test alga under our culture conditions and to determine the eutrophic level of the secondary effluent of a modern plant for the treatment of domestic discharge and to investigate the eventual ”limiting factors”. Finally this paper aims to study the effect on the secondary effluent of tertiary treatment carried out artificially in the laboratory.

Description of a simple method for counting bacteria with active electron transport systems in water and sediment samples. Sodium succinate, NADH and NADPH served as electron donors. It is possible to see several sites of electron transport in the larger cells. Especially impressive are the plankton-algae, protozoa, and small metazoa. In recent times, some specialists have begun to study the subject of food selection of fish in an organized way, thus highlighting its importance. In the present work, the author intends to evaluate the impact of predation on the eupelagic zooplanktonic biocenosis of Lake Maggiore, producing, in this way, as far as possible, a basis for a better understanding of the population dynamics of the species of zooplankton directly involved. Another aspect which has been studied is that related to the mechanism of selective capture set in action by the predator. To this end the study tries to bear in mind that the subject should be interpreted as a function of numerous factors acting contemporaneously, that is as the interaction of characters peculiar to the predator and to the prey. The species studied, locally called ”bondella”, belongs to the family Salmonidae, subfamily Coregoninae and was introduced into Lake Maggiore in 1950.

Dissolved organic matter, especially turf and peat, is repsonsible for the colouration of water. The reported study tried to determine the nature of the colouring agent or organic matter by the establishment of a relationship between the intensity of colouration and the total organic matter content. 44 waters from different sources were examined.

Diseño de una transmisión y sistema de frenado para una carretilla telescópica de 4.300 Kg

El proyecto tiene como fin el diseño de una transmisión y sistema de frenado para un vehículo que tiene la parte generadora de potencia separada de la parte tractora o motriz, ya sea por barreras físicas o por motivos funcionales. El objetivo principal es buscar y adaptar alternativas a las transmisiones tradicionales, las cuales están restringidas a vehículos rígidos y cuya potencia depende del régimen de giro del motor de combustión. Las aplicaciones se centran en maquinaria pesada, donde es frecuente disponer de torretas giratorias, tracción mediante orugas o bien se busca un vehículo compacto. En lo referente al sistema de frenado, se han estudiado las alternativas posibles tanto en su disposición como tipo de freno y adaptado una de ellas a la máquina en cuestión. Se diseñarán dos frenos, uno de servicio que decelere la máquina y otro de estacionamiento que retenga la máquina en pendiente. En este proyecto se va a estudiar el caso de una carretilla telescópica (Figura 2.1), analizando los diferentes medios de transmisión de potencia, y desarrollando una transmisión y sistema de frenado que cumplan los requisitos de par y potencia calculados en este mismo proyecto.

31. Sitzung des FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Komitees für Fische und Fischereierzeugnisse in Tromsø, Norwegen

Die Sitzung zeigte in diesem Jahr einmal mehr sehr deutlich, dass einzelne Länder bei bestimmten Fisch und Fischerzeugnissen konkrete wirtschaftliche Interessen verfolgen und versuchen, diese in die Gestaltung bzw. die Formulierung der Codex-Standards, sofern es möglich ist, einfließen zu lassen. Insbesondere zu Beginn der Ausarbeitung eines neuen Standardentwurfs steht die Frage nach dem globalen Handel im Vordergrund. Als Hauptkriterien für einen neuen Standard gelten die aktuelle, internationale wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Fisches oder Fischerzeugnisses, bestehende wissenschaftliche Kenntnisse über dieses Erzeugnis und die Notwendigkeit einer Qualitäts-und Risikoeinstufung.

Effect of air annealing on the spectral properties of Ce : Y3Al5O12 single crystals grown by the temperature gradient technique

Five absorption hands, at 227, 300 340, 370 and 457nm, were observed in the optical absorption spectrum of Ce:Y3Al5O12 (Ce:YAG) crystals grown by the temperature gradient technique (TGT). The absorption bands at 227, 340, and 457 nm were identified Lis belonging to the Ce3+ -ion in the YAG crystal. A near UV optical emission band at 398nm was observed. with an excitation spectrum containing two bands, at 235 and 370nm. No fluorescence was detected under 300 nm excitation. The pair of absorption bands at 235 and 370 nm and the absorption band at 300 nm were attributed to the F- and F+-type color centers, respectively. The color centers model was also applied to explain the spectral changes in the Ce:YAG (TGT) crystal, including the reduction in the Ce 31 -ion absorption intensity, after annealing in an oxidizing atmosphere (air). Generation of 210 fs laser pulses at 1093 nm by a self-starting mode-locked Yb:GYSO laser

We report the first demonstration, to our knowledge, of the femtosecond laser operation by using a new alloyed Yb:GYSO crystal as the gain medium. With a 5 at. % Yb3+-doped sample and chirped mirrors for dispersion compensation, we obtained pulses as short as 210 fs at the center wavelength of 1093 nm. The average mode-locking power is 300 mW, and the pulse repetition frequency is 80 MHz. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America

春砂仁人工授粉和叶油的研究

春砂仁是我国名贵中药材之一，主产广东的阳江、信宜等地。由于其花粉器官较特殊，传粉困难，花期常遇低温阴雨，自然结实率甚低，平均亩产仅得1-3斤。经试验证明：在砂仁盛花期，进行人工辅助授粉，其结实率可达40-80％，而对照为3-8％，大大提高了砂仁的产量。目前，砂仁人工授粉已普遍在生产上应用。1970年开始，进行砂仁叶油代砂仁的研究。通过蒸油试验、理化特性测定等，每百公斤鲜砂仁叶得油150-300克，而0.1毫升的砂仁叶油可顶替一钱的砂仁果药用。叶油的化学成分与砂仁果基本相似。用砂仁叶油代替砂仁治病，经广东中医学院附属医院和我所医疗室对31名有显著胃病、心腹痛、腹胀、消化道溃疡痛，伤后痛等病患者进行医疗观察，显效达12例，有效15例，无效4例，有效率达87.1％。广州市制药总厂已用砂仁叶油试制香砂六君子丸，经进一步验证，药效也较显著。
