In order to clarify the role of Pl2 resistance gene in differentiation the pathogenicity in Plasmopara halstedii (sunflower downy mildew), analyses were carried out in four pathotypes: isolates of races 304 and 314 that do not overcome Pl2 gene, and isolates of races 704 and 714 that can overcome Pl2 gene. Based on the reaction for the P. halstedii isolates to sunflower hybrids varying only in Pl resistance genes, isolates of races 704 and 714 were more virulent than isolates of races 304 and 314. Index of aggressiveness was calculated for pathogen isolates and revealed the presence of significant differences between isolates of races 304 and 314 (more aggressive) and isolates of races 704 and 714 (less aggressive). There were morphological and genetic variations for the four P. halstedii isolates without a correlation with pathogenic diversity. The importance of the Pl2 resistance gene to differentiate the pathogenicity in sunflower downy mildew was discussed.

I. The report describes the main monthly changes in the distribution and abundance of the zooplankton, other than Copepoda and young fish (dealt with in separate reports), over the southern part of the North Sea from 1932 to 1937. The work is part of the survey carried out by Continuous Plankton Recorders towed at a depth of 10 metres on regular steamship lines between England and the Continent. 2. The limitations to the sampling method are discussed, and it is shown to be unsuitable for recording Mysidacea and Euphausiacea on account of their marked diurnal variation due presumably to vertical migration; they are omitted from the report. 3. The changing distribution of Sagitta, Limacina, Clione, Lamellibranch larvae, Cladocera, Caprellid Amphipoda, Decapod larvae, Echinoderm larvae and Oikopleura are shown in a series of monthly charts while their seasonal fluctuations are compared in time-chart histograms. 4. The Alima larvae of Squilla are recorded on a few occasions in the regions where the Channel opens into the North Sea. 5. The distributional characteristics of the different forms, i.e. their tendencies to even or " patchy " production, are compared.

The Bolsa Família Program goal is to promote social development and poverty reduction, through the direct transfer of conditional cash, in association with other social programs. This study aims to analyze whether Bolsa Família had an association with children’s school attendance, which is one of the educational conditions of the program. Our main hypothesis is that children living in households receiving Bolsa Família had greater chances of attending school. Data from the Ministry of Social Development and Combating Famine indicated that children living in households with Bolsa Família had greater school enrolment levels. By using data from the 2010 Demographic Census, collected by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), some descriptive analyzes and binary logistic regression models were performed for different thresholds of household per capita income. These estimates were made by comparing children who lived in households receiving Bolsa Família to those children not receiving the program. We took into consideration characteristics about the household, mothers, and children. The results were clustered by the municipality of residence of the child. In all income thresholds, children benefi ting from Bolsa Família were more likely to be enrolled in school, compared to children not receiving the benefi t.

Bio art, understood as the convergence of the relations between art, biology and technology, constitutes a useful case study to discuss the meaning of interdisciplinarity in the artistic field. This paper explores different discourses around interdisciplinarity in order to challenge certain generic approaches for their ineffectiveness when assessing artistic practices. It is proposed that the analysis of interdisciplinarity must address the singular connections produced in the artistic practice itself, considering the impossibility of reducing the complexity of interdisciplinary dialogues into generic considerations. Taking bioart as a case study, different kinds of relationships between the artist and the lab are identified and analyzed, ranging from the use of the lab as a true atelier and as a resource for materials and techniques, to the rejection of the lab by proposing amateurism as an alternative. estrategias amateur, pasando por su utilización como fuente de técnicas y materiales.

Endoplasmic reticulum protein 29 (ERp29) is a novel endoplasmic reticulum ( ER) secretion factor that facilitates the transport of secretory proteins in the early secretory pathway. Recently, it was found to be overexpressed in several cancers; however, little is known regarding its function in breast cancer progression. In this study, we show that the expression of ERp29 was reduced with tumor progression in clinical specimens of breast cancer, and that overexpression of ERp29 resulted in G(0)/G(1) arrest and inhibited cell proliferation in MDA-MB-231 cells. Importantly, overexpression of ERp29 in MDA-MB-231 cells led to a phenotypic change and mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) characterized by cytoskeletal reorganization with loss of stress fibers, reduction of fibronectin (FN), reactivation of epithelial cell marker E-cadherin and loss of mesenchymal cell marker vimentin. Knockdown of ERp29 by shRNA in MCF-7 cells reduced E-cadherin, but increased vimentin expression. Furthermore, ERp29 overexpression in MDA-MB-231 and SKBr3 cells decreased cell migration/invasion and reduced cell transformation, whereas silencing of ERp29 in MCF-7 cells enhanced cell aggressive behavior. Significantly, expression of ERp29 in MDA-MB-231 cells suppressed tumor formation in nude mice by repressing the cell proliferative index (Ki-67 positivity). Transcriptional profiling analysis showed that ERp29 acts as a central regulator by upregulating a group of genes with tumor suppressive function, for example, E-cadherin (CDH1), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CDKN2B) and spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK), and by downregulating a group of genes that regulate cell proliferation (eg, FN, epidermal growth factor receptor ( EGFR) and plasminogen activator receptor ( uPAR)). It is noteworthy that ERp29 significantly attenuated the overall ERK cascade, whereas the ratio of p-ERK1 to p-ERK2 was highly increased. Taken together, our results showed that ERp29 is a novel regulator leading to cell growth arrest and cell transition from a proliferative to a quiescent state, and reprogramming molecular portraits to suppress the tumor growth of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Sectarian violence in the Northern Ireland is often perceived to be mostly confined to cities. The aim of this paper is to explore statistically what factors contribute to segregation preferences among young people living in rural and urban areas, using the 2005–2009 Young Life and Times (YLT) survey – an annual attitudes survey of 16-year-olds. The findings show that religious and national identities are the strongest predictors of segregation preferences among 16-year-olds, regardless of where they live and what background they have. Those living in rural areas of Northern Ireland are more supportive of residential, workplace and educational segregation than those living in more urban areas. This research highlights the need for government policy to take rurality into account. Nevertheless, some variables significantly determine segregation preferences regardless of where respondents live, such as attendance of segregated schools, being female, or strength of national and religious identity. Consequently, policy initiatives should continue to address the effect of segregation, especially in relation to education, and future research exploring social class and gender is recommended. In conclusion, the perception of the violent ‘urban spaces’ and the ‘peaceful countryside’ has to be challenged.
