Regional Fisheries Advisory Committee 24th February, 1975

This is the report from the Regional Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 24th February, 1975. The report covers the minutes from the previous meetings of the Local Fisheries Advisory Committees, Licence duties and regional fish hatchery requirements. Also included is the consolidation of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Acts, fishery byelaws and a brief note on fisheries improvement work on the River Leven. It covers information on fishery byelaws, and a report by Unit Water Quality Officer on fisheries activities. This section includes work on fisheries management, stocking carried out, biological work carried out on the Rivers Bollin, Etherow, Goyt, Tame, Glaze and Roch and information on the mortality of coarse fish in the Rochdale Canal. Other areas looked at include licence duties and inportation of live freshwater fish. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

South & West Cumberland Fisheries Advisory Committee 28th April, 1975

This is the report from the South and West Cumberland Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 28th April, 1975. It covers information on fishery byelaws, and a report by Unit Fisheries Officer on fisheries activities. This section includes work on stocking, biological work carried out, fish surveys, fishing information for migratory fish, trout, and coarse fish, and hatchery work. Other areas looked at include licence duties, inportation of live freshwater fish, and a pollution incident on the River Ellen. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

South Lancashire Fisheries Advisory Committee 7th May, 1975

This is the report from the South Lancashire Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting, which was held on the 7th May, 1975. It covers information on fishery byelaws, eel trapping, and a report by the Unit Fisheries Officer on fisheries activities. This section includes work on stocking, fisheries management, fish mortalities including date, location, number, species and cause. Migratory fish runs for the Rivers Ribble and Hodder during 1974 are also added. Catch returns and spawning information for 1974 are also covered aswell as biological work undertaken. Licence duties and information on the importation of live freshwater fish are included. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

The report covers the minutes from the previous meetings of the Local Fisheries Advisory Committees, licence duties, fishery byelaws, and regional fish hatchery requirements. Also included is information on the long term angling leases on Authority waters. The Fisheries Advisory Committee was part of the Regional Water Authorities, in this case the North West Water Authority. This preceded the Environment Agency which came into existence in 1996.

River Dart Scale Reading Investigation Report on the 1967 Season

This is the sixth and final River Dart Scale Reading Investigation Report on the 1967 Season by the Devon River Board. The object of this investigation is to examine, by means of scale-reading, the general biology of the salmon population of the River Dart. It reviews the methods used for the collection of scales and examination of the materials. It shows the results of the survey and the number of scales studied from each of the various sea-age classes, time of running with distribution of the sea-age groups throughout the season, fish sizes and smolt ages at migration. All it summarized in tables, and figures are included plotting weight distributions for each age classes and frequency distributions. It also compares the results of previous reports and gives a full summary for the investigation (including previous reports).

River Exe Fisheries Survey 1966-1967

This is the River Exe Fisheries Survey 1966-1967 by the Devon River Authority. This is the fifth Fisheries Survey to be carried out in the initial series, other surveys having been carried out on the Rivers Teign, Torridge, Dart and Erme. The object of the survey was to examine the distribution and relative abundance of salmonid fish in the river system, in order to assess the possibility, or desirability, of increasing salmon smolt production of the river by artificial propagation or other means. The survey was carried out from middle May to end of July in 1966 when further survey work was prevented by high water levels, and from the end of June to the end of September in 1967. It contains a brief introduction of general aspects of the catchment, chemistry, pollution, biology and fisheries in the river, methodology that looks at the selected transects and techniques for sampling, results and recommendations. The results goes through totals of all salmonid fish caught, adults, parrs and estimations of parr population individually for salmo salar and salmo trutta. Maps with survey sections and fish indices along with tables with size distributions and totals of salmonids found are attached.

Implicações políticas da cooperação internacional para o desenvolvimento em Moçambique: da solidariedade socialista à trajetória tradicional do norte e à experiência emergente do sul (1975-2013)

Esta Tese examina as implicações políticas da cooperação internacional para o desenvolvimento de Moçambique em três momentos: (i) o período referente à solidariedade socialista; (ii) o contexto da cooperação tradicional Norte-Sul; (iii) a experiência (re) emergente da Cooperação Sul-Sul. Nossa incursão analítica mostra que foram cerca de 40 anos de cooperação internacional que permitiram uma série de transformações em nível político, econômico e social, e que construíram um país como um autêntico artefato de intervenção externa. Nesse sentido, analisam-se os efeitos políticos provocados pelas três propostas sugeridas de cooperação na esfera doméstica de Moçambique. Por um lado, constata-se que a cooperação internacional acaba por constituir-se em projeto de poder que afeta a produção de políticas públicas, a construção da autonomia e, mais recentemente, o processo de democratização em curso. Por outro, evidencia-se que os atores internacionais que atuam no campo da cooperação para o desenvolvimento em Moçambique agem imbuídos de seus respectivos interesses e agendas de política externa. Na relação entre os distintos atores e o Estado moçambicano, identificam-se alguns fatores-chave, tais como a fraca capacidade estatal, a existência de enormes assimetrias entre Moçambique e seus parceiros, o vício em receber cooperação que transforma essa relação em uma das principais fontes de manutenção do Estado, bem como a preservação das elites políticas tradicionais fatores que limitam o alcance dos objetivos reais de desenvolvimento que as distintas formas e modalidades de cooperação internacional prometem e buscam promover.

After 1975 a large inventory work of fisheries resources began in Mozambican waters. The tuna stocks, for instance, were virtually unexplored. After 10 years roughly, the oceanographic investigations led to the temporary localization of the most favorable areas for longline fishing or surface gears.

The District Administrations also received revenue on the licences issued to fish mongers. The amounts are unknown as they have not provided figures. The fish marketing aspect experienced a lot of problems especially night transport charges arising out of expensive repair parts for vehicle owners. This night transport charges were eventually passed on to the fish mongers then to the consumers. There was a night trend of fish being marketed at Tororo, Busia and the nearby towns of Kenya/Uganda boarder in order to barter for essential commodities across the board by the specific license holders.
