REPRODUCTIVE DYNAMICS of THE MAIN SPECIES of FISH IN THE MUNICIPAL RESERVOIR of SAO JOSE do RIO PRETO

Uso de macroalgas para avaliação da Poluição orgânica no Rio Preto, noroeste do estado de S��o Paulo.

The Preto River, located in the northwest of S��o Paulo State, receives a total wastewater load of 15.150 kg DBO day-1, from which 13.685 kg DBO day-1 (90.5%) corresponds to domestic sewage, and the city of S��o José do Rio Preto contributes with 12.400 kg DBO day-1 (90% of domestic sewage). During the period from August 1990 through January 1991, monthly sampling was carried out to evaluate the use of macroalgae as bioindicator of organic pollution. Five sampling sites were established along the main river and the following variables were analised: temperature, conductance, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, total and fecal coliforms, and composition and abundance of macroalgal communities. Data were submitted to analysis of variance, correlation coefficient, cluster analysis (four different approaches) and converted to biological indices (species deficit, relative pollution, saprobity, diversity and uniformity indices). A wide range in water quality was found (particularly for conductance, oxygen, BOD and COD) among the sampling sites, which were classified into three groups (polluted, moderately polluted and unpolluted/weakly polluted). As regards the occurrence and abundance of macroalgae the Rhodophyta were found only in unpolluted or weakly polluted sites, whereas Cyanophyta occurred mostly under high pollution load; the Chlorophyta species were observed under a wide range of conditions. Among the biological indices, saprobity was the most sensitive and correlated to all water variables and the other indices. Cluster analyses showed that the composition of macroalgal communities was consistent with the levels of organic pollution in the Preto River.

Spermatogenesis of riffle bugs, Rhagovelia whitei and Rhagovelia sp (Veliidae), and backswimmers Martarega sp (Notonectidae).

We examined the course of spermatogenesis and the meiotic chromosome complements in aquatic species of true bugs, Heteroptera. The chromosome complement of the Veliidae species was 2n = 39 (38A + X0) and 23 (22A + X0) in Rhagovelia whitei and Rhagovelia sp, respectively, and in the species of the Notonectidae (Martarega sp) it was 26 (22A + 2m + XY); all collected from the region of S��o José do Rio Preto, SP, Brazil. An impressive characteristic of the first analysis was the size of the cells belonging to Martarega sp, which were six times larger than the same cells in Pentatomidae and twice as large as the cells in aquatic Heteroptera (Gerridae). Regarding spermatogenesis, all the species analyzed showed the same pattern: holocentric chromosomes and elongated spermatids with the chromatin distributed evenly along the head. The family Veliidae showed several bodies impregnated with silver nitrate at prophase, while the family Notonectidae displayed only one. The cells of Notonectidae also showed an evident and round body until the end of prophase I and in the family Veliidae the silver-impregnated bodies were disorganized, where the only region visualized was possibly that of the NOR. In metaphase, silver-stained regions were found at the periphery of all chromosomes in Veliidae and at the periphery of some chromosomes in Notonectidae. The spermatids of Veliidae showed a less silver-impregnated vesicle, while Notonectidae showed silver staining only in part of the nuclear membrane. Therefore, families of Heteroptera have some differences and features that can help identify and classify these species.

Hospital da mulher

Projeto arquitetônico que consiste na construção de um novo Hospital da Mulher em S��o José do Rio Preto – SP, que foi o primeiro hospital exclusivo para o público feminino da cidade e da região. A ideia era trabalhar apenas com cirurgias limpas ou potencialmente não contaminadas (como cirurgias vasculares, obstétricas, ginecológicas e plásticas), ou seja, com menores riscos de infecção (muito importante principalmente no caso de partos prematuros e do cada vez mais alto percentual de bebês que morrem por causa de infecções hospitalares). Um dos diferenciais do hospital era oferecer ambientes que lembravam uma casa de repouso e instalações hoteleiras, descaracterizando-o de um hospital comum. O investimento em instalações fazia parte do incentivo ao “turismo de saúde” da cidade, que atraia diariamente pacientes de vários municípios e Estados do País. Atualmente o local do antigo hospital é ocupado por uma clínica privada, sendo necessária a construção de um novo prédio, que viria de encontro aos anseios da cidade que, por possuir a Faculdade de Medicina de Rio Preto (FAMERP), vinculada à UNICAMP, ser um pólo regional de saúde com referências à nível nacional teria potencial para abranger uma grande demanda de pacientes diferenciados

FUNDEF e municipalização do ensino fundamental: breves considerações

Objetiva discutir os aspectos determinantes da descentralização da Educação Básica brasileira no período pós-1988 (nova Constituição Federal), com um enfoque na municipalização do Ensino Fundamental a partir da instituição do Fundef (Fundo de Manutenção e Desenvolvimento do Ensino Fundamental e de Valorização do Magistério). Investiga os sistemas de ensino de quatorze municípios que compõem a Diretoria Regional de S��o José do Rio Preto (SP). A partir desta amostra, busca identificar quais aderem à municipalização por meio da análise da evolução das matrículas nos sistemas municipais de ensino no período compreendido entre 1997 e 2007, visto que grande parte da literatura aponta o Fundef como um fator indutor do processo de municipalização do Ensino Fundamental. Os resultados indicam que uma parte desses municípios inicia um processo de municipalização das matrículas do Ensino Fundamental com a implementação do Fundef. No caso específico da Região Administrativa estudada, é no ano de 2002 que ocorre a invers��o do contexto anterior, qual seja, a partir deste ano o número de matrículas nos sistemas municipais de Ensino Fundamental supera o total de alunos matriculados na rede estadual de ensino.

In this work, we address the informational Density Index (IDI) a methodological Option How To be used on the Research Procedures Analysis of Commerce Geography. The IDI and an indicator of Technological Complexity level of economic activities and a review and made a database from CNEFE / NCEA, where the first signifies the National Register of Establishments for statistical purposes and the second means a National Classification Economic Activities.
