Reduction of radar cross -section of dihedral corner reflectors using simulated corrugated surface (SCS) is reported. The technique is found to be more effective in the reduction of RCS or corner reflectors for normal incidence . A typical reduction of 40-50 dB is achieved using this method.

This thesis presents the Radar Cross Section measurements of different geometric structures such as flat plate, cylinder, corner reflector and circular cone loaded with fractal based metallo dielectric structures.Use of different fractal geometris, metallizations of different shapes as well as the frequency tanability is investigated for TE and TM polarization of the incident electromagnetic field.Application of fractal based metallo-dielectric structures results in RCS reduction over a wide range of frequency bands.RCS enhancement of dihedral corner is observed at certain acute and obtuse corner angles. The experimental results are validated using electromagnetic simulation softwares.

The scattering behaviour of fractal based metallodielectric structures loaded over metallic targets of different shapes such as flat plate, cylinder and dihedral corner reflector are investigated for both TE and TM polarizations of the incident wave. Out of the various fractal structures studied, square Sierpinski carpet structure is found to give backscattering reduction for an appreciable range of frequencies. The frequency of minimum backscattering depends on the geometry of the structure as well as on the thickness of the substrate. This structure when loaded over a dihedral corner reflector is showing an enhancement in RCS for corner angles other than 90◦.

With the advent of satellite communication and radio astronomy, the need for large and efficient reflector antennas had triggered a widespread investigation in reflector feed design techniques. Major improvements sought are reduction in spill-over, cross polarization losses and the enhancement of aperture efficiency. The search for such a feed culminated in the corrugated horn. The main idea behind the present work is to use the H-plane sectoral horns fitted with, corrugated flanges as feeds of a paraboloid and see how the secondary pattern of the reflector antenna varies with different parameters of the feed. An offset paraboloid is used as the secondary reflector in order to avoid the adverse effect of aperture ‘blocking by the feed horn structure on the secondary radiation pattern. The measurements were repeated for three different H-plane sectoral horns with the same set of corrugated flanges at various X-band frequencies. The following parameters of the whole system are studied: (a) Beam shaping. (b) Gain. (c) Variation of VSWR and (d) Cross polarization

A lubrication-flow model for a free film in a corner is presented. The model, written in the hyperbolic coordinate system ξ = x² – y², η = 2xy, applies to films that are thin in the η direction. The lubrication approximation yields two coupled evolution equations for the film thickness and the velocity field which, to lowest order, describes plug flow in the hyperbolic coordinates. A free film in a corner evolving under surface tension and gravity is investigated. The rate of thinning of a free film is compared to that of a film evolving over a solid substrate. Viscous shear and normal stresses are both captured in the model and are computed for the entire flow domain. It is shown that normal stress dominates over shear stress in the far field, while shear stress dominates close to the corner.

A critical analysis of single crystal X-ray diffraction studies on a series of terminally protected tripeptides containing a centrally positioned Aib (alpha-aminoisobutyric acid) residue has been reported. For the tripeptide series containing Boc-Ala-Aib as corner residues, all the reported peptides formed distorted type II beta-turn structures. Moreover, a series of Phe substituted analogues ( tripeptides with Boc-Phe-Aib) have also shown different beta-turn conformations. However, the Leu-modified analogues (tripeptides with Boc-Leu-Aib) disrupt the concept of beta-turn formation and adopt various conformations in the solid state. X-ray crystallography sheds some light on the conformational heterogeneity at atomic resolution. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Generalized cubes are a subclass of hypercube-like networks, which include some hypercube variants as special cases. Let theta(G)(k) denote the minimum number of nodes adjacent to a set of k vertices of a graph G. In this paper, we prove theta(G)(k) >= -1/2k(2) + (2n - 3/2)k - (n(2) - 2) for each n-dimensional generalized cube and each integer k satisfying n + 2 <= k <= 2n. Our result is an extension of a result presented by Fan and Lin [J. Fan, X. Lin, The t/k-diagnosability of the BC graphs, IEEE Trans. Comput. 54 (2) (2005) 176-184]. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. Comparison-based diagnosis is an effective approach to system-level fault diagnosis. Under the Maeng-Malek comparison model (NM* model), Sengupta and Dahbura proposed an O(N-5) diagnosis algorithm for general diagnosable systems with N nodes. Thanks to lower diameter and better graph embedding capability as compared with a hypercube of the same size, the crossed cube has been a promising candidate for interconnection networks. In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis algorithm tailored for crossed cube connected multicomputer systems under the MM* model. By introducing appropriate data structures, this algorithm runs in O(Nlog(2)(2) N) time, which is linear in the size of the input. As a result, this algorithm is significantly superior to the Sengupta-Dahbura's algorithm when applied to crossed cube systems. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
