Análise da prática de meditação em duas escolas do município de Rio Claro - SP

Nowadays, meditation had become larger than the mystic’s scope, entering the academy through the scientific interest in this topic. Results documented for so many centuries or the experienced monks that practice meditation for a long time are the aims for researches that want, ultimately, establish the real effects of such techniques upon the human body. Research has gone far, and many effects can be evaluated using more precise methods, specially in the medical field and neuroscience, which had greatly backed up new discoveries about the correlation between the mind, emotions, thoughts and the body, making so that mediation can walk the therapeutic ways and complementary health with more certainty and reliable results, as it is happening with acupuncture and yoga. Facing a promising scenario in the correlation between meditation and life’s quality, well being sensation and happiness, there is the possibility of using it in schools, since because of the difficulties and present challenges, those factors are not commonly associated with the acts of teaching and learning, and acupuncture and Yoga have more restrictions because of their own limitations of time and space necessary for their wide application. Therefore, the current study focused on contextualizing the meditation’s fundaments in the scientific perspective, and apply it, even if qualitatively, in two schools of Rio Claro municipality, researching 57 students from Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA). Therefore, it was chosen only one meditation tecnique to be applied on the treatment group. As for the control group, it perfomed normal breathing, i.e., without tecniques. The differences were then analyzed through the filmings of all the sessions of the meetings, counting the number of movements and the agitation among the students for the two groups. O legado de Descartes

The criticism of Cartesian philosophy is correlated on four pillars: the fragmentation of knowledge, the separation between mind and body, the impossibility of the reductionist method for explanation of natural phenomena, and in the superiority of the reason as the only valid form of knowledge. These last two pillars, as many environmentalists claim, contributed decisively to the devaluation of the res extensa over the res cogitans. To check this we used as a theoretical framework the following texts: Discourse on Method, Rules for Conduct of the Spirit and Metaphysical Meditations. By reading these works it was found that the first two pillars (the fragmentation of knowledge and the separation between mind and body) there are no theoretical basis in texts. The failure of the reductionist method to explain the ecological and atomic phenomena and the overcoming of reason as the only valid form of knowledge are supported in their philosophy.

I compose a poem in the same way I compose a photograph: shifting focus until I see only what is most beautiful or most terrible, warily choosing what will be in view and what will be left out, trying to find just the right amount of light or darkness. Art¿¿poetry, especially¿¿is a way for me to frame and illuminate experience. In this collection, I investigate experiences that dumbfound me, and the details of landscape become a vocabulary for discovery. The wheat fields of the Midwest are signifiers for loss and homesickness; a Pennsylvania forest is a catalyst for meditations on pregnancy and motherhood. Images of light and of water are abundant in these poems, and the speakers of my poems look to these elements for guidance and comfort with almost religious deference.

Brain sources of EEG gamma frequency during volitionally meditation-induced, altered states of consciousness, and experience of the self.

Multichannel EEG of an advanced meditator was recorded during four different, repeated meditations. Locations of intracerebral source gravity centers as well as Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA) functional images of the EEG 'gamma' (35-44 Hz) frequency band activity differed significantly between meditations. Thus, during volitionally self-initiated, altered states of consciousness that were associated with different subjective meditation states, different brain neuronal populations were active. The brain areas predominantly involved during the self-induced meditation states aiming at visualization (right posterior) and verbalization (left central) agreed with known brain functional neuroanatomy. The brain areas involved in the self-induced, meditational dissolution and reconstitution of the experience of the self (right fronto-temporal) are discussed in the context of neural substrates implicated in normal self-representation and reality testing, as well as in depersonalization disorders and detachment from self after brain lesions.

Galeria de espelhos: figuras da representação em François Truffaut

Esta dissertação consiste numa análise de quatro filmes de François Truffaut, nomeadamente La mariée était en noir (1968), La sirène du Mississipi (1969), L’histoire d’Adèle H. (1975) e La chambre verte (1978). O meu estudo centra-se nalgumas figuras pertencentes a sistemas de representação, que ocupam posições de relevo nas narrativas e na imagética destes filmes. Assim, considero o tratamento dado a fotografias, pinturas, desenhos ou esculturas no quadro maior da imagem fílmica, e atento na caracterização de certas personagens enquanto, elas mesmas, propiciadoras de uma reflexão acerca da imagem. Finalmente, procuro repensar o modo como, associando esse trabalho sobre objectos representativos a um pensamento sobre a morte, Truffaut formula uma meditação sobre o cinema enquanto arte intimamente relacionada com a noção de fantasma.
