In a world of almost permanent and rapidly increasing electronic data availability, techniques of filtering, compressing, and interpreting this data to transform it into valuable and easily comprehensible information is of utmost importance. One key topic in this area is the capability to deduce future system behavior from a given data input. This book brings together for the first time the complete theory of data-based neurofuzzy modelling and the linguistic attributes of fuzzy logic in a single cohesive mathematical framework. After introducing the basic theory of data-based modelling, new concepts including extended additive and multiplicative submodels are developed and their extensions to state estimation and data fusion are derived. All these algorithms are illustrated with benchmark and real-life examples to demonstrate their efficiency. Chris Harris and his group have carried out pioneering work which has tied together the fields of neural networks and linguistic rule-based algortihms. This book is aimed at researchers and scientists in time series modeling, empirical data modeling, knowledge discovery, data mining, and data fusion.

‘Instructions for an Audio Performance/Scissors Recording’ is a score for a performance using an amplified scissors that can be downloaded and interpreted by a performer anywhere in the world. The file functions as a manual for the performer with guidance for creating the instrument and preparing the performance space while it also provides a template for the actual sonic pattern to be followed in the live performance. Created originally for ‘Storageroom’ an online platform featuring complete exhibitions that are available for download, the piece was exhibited and interpreted in a live performance by Ayelet Lerman for the File Transfer Protocol, the contemporary section of the Haifa-Jerusalem-Tel Aviv exhibition at the Museum of Art, Haifa, Israel.

This work presents a method of information fusion involving data captured by both a standard CCD camera and a ToF camera to be used in the detection of the proximity between a manipulator robot and a human. Both cameras are assumed to be located above the work area of an industrial robot. The fusion of colour images and time of light information makes it possible to know the 3D localization of objects with respect to a world coordinate system. At the same time this allows to know their colour information. Considering that ToF information given by the range camera contains innacuracies including distance error, border error, and pixel saturation, some corrections over the ToF information are proposed and developed to improve the results. The proposed fusion method uses the calibration parameters of both cameras to reproject 3D ToF points, expressed in a common coordinate system for both cameras and a robot arm, in 2D colour images. In addition to this, using the 3D information, the motion detection in a robot industrial environment is achieved, and the fusion of information is applied to the foreground objects previously detected. This combination of information results in a matrix that links colour and 3D information, giving the possibility of characterising the object by its colour in addition to its 3D localization. Further development of these methods will make it possible to identify objects and their position in the real world, and to use this information to prevent possible collisions between the robot and such objects.

This article recovers and contextualizes the politics of British punk fanzines produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It argues that fanzines – and youth cultures more generally – provide a contested cultural space for young people to express their ideas, opinions and anxieties. Simultaneously, it maintains that punk fanzines offer the historian a portal into a period of significant socio-economic, political and cultural change. As well as presenting alternative cultural narratives to the formulaic accounts of punk and popular music now common in the mainstream media, fanzines allow us a glimpse of the often radical ideas held by a youthful milieu rarely given expression in the political arena.

We show that halo effects enhance fusion cross sections of weakly bound systems, comparing with the situation when there is no-halo. We introduce dimensionless fusion functions and energy variable quantity to investigate systematical trends in the fusion cross sections of weakly bound nuclei at near-barrier energies. We observe very clearly complete fusion suppression at energies above the barrier due to dynamic effects of the breakup on fusion. We explain this suppression in terms of the repulsive polarization potential produced by the breakup.

The aim of the project is to examine the music salon in Falun as a part of the mining community and in the historical context of European salon culture. A specifc goal is to develop a deeper understanding about the salon when it comes to education and pedagogic ideas. Of a certain interest is Johan Henrik Munktell’s (1804-1861) education travelling (bildningsresor). Inspired by Mendelssohn’s music salon in Berlin and the early salons in Upp-sala he created his own salon in Grycksbo. A letter collection from J.H. Munktell to his father J.J. Munktell in 1828-30 can be considered a unique historical material, which places the salon in Falun in a continental context of culture, education and industrial pretensions. The results have potential to extend the knowledge of Nordic salon culture and how it has infuenced general pedagogy and music education.

Jazz brings to the surface discussions about globalization and its unfolding. The development of such music style allows a reflection about the processes that influence 20th century culture, thus enabling a closer look into debates that involve cultural industrialization and standardization in such context. Horkheimer‟s and Adorno‟s work deal with this theme, considering culture as something standardized, a result of the process that fits into the industrial production mold. Morin goes further in this discussion, suggesting the emergence of a mass culture as a third culture. Later, Latin-American authors Ortiz and Canclini bring up new tones and approaches to the globalization through culture theme

Music at the Fair!” gives the daily musical programs for The Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition, held in Omaha, Nebraska, June 1 through October 31, 1898. The Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition brought an unprecedented array of local, national, and international musical acts to Omaha, NE in 1898. This served to designate Omaha, "the gateway to the west" as a musical hub, as well as to incite musical excitement in the region. Some of the more popular acts featured were the Theodore Thomas Orchestra, the U.S. Marine Band, and the Apollo Club of Chicago. Many more groups and their musical programs can be found within the pages of this site. The “Music at the Fair!” website was created by Grace Carey, and last revised on May 19, 2006.It is the result of a two- year research grant funded by an Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences (UCARE) grant through the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. It is an extension of an ongoing project on music at the TME by Music Professor Peter Lefferts. The primary sources of information for the site are the following newspapers from June – November 1898: The Omaha Daily Bee, the Omaha Evening Bee, and the Omaha World Herald, and the the official programs of the fair located in the archives at the Omaha Public Library. I would like to thank the helpful staff at the Nebraska State Historical Society and the downtown branch of the Omaha Public Library. Over the last decades the prevalence of food allergies has continually increased on a world wide scale. While there are effective treatments available for bee and wasp venom allergic patients, there is currently no established therapy for the treatment of severe food allergies. Aim of the project was to genetically fuse different food allergens with the immune modulating Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5)-ligand flagellin and to test these constructs for their immune modulatory capacities both in vitro and in vivo. Chicken ovalbumin (Ova) as model antigen, Pru p 3, and Ara h 2 the respective major allergens from peach and peanut were used as allergens. The potential vaccine candidates were characterized by protein biochemical methods (purity, folding, endotoxin contaminations). Moreover, their immune modulating effects on cell culture lines (TLR5-receptor activation) and primary mouse immune cells (myeloid and plasmacytoid dendritic cells) were investigated. Additionally, the prophylactic and therapeutic use of the flagellin Ova fusion protein (rflaA:Ova) were investigated in a mouse model of intestinal allergy. In myeloid dendritic cells (mDC) stimulation with the fusion proteins led to a strong cell activation and cytokine secretion. Here, the fusion proteins proved to be a much stronger stimulus than the equimolar amount of both proteins provided alone or as a mixture. Noteworthy, stimulation with rflaA:Ova induced the secretion of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 from mDC. In co-culture experiments this IL-10 secretion suppressed the Ova-induced secretion of Th1 and Th2 cytokines from Ova-specific CD4 T cells. Using MyD88-deficient mDC this repression of cytokine secretion was shown to be TLR-dependent. Finally, the potency of the rflaA:Ova construct was investigated in a mouse model of Ova-induced intestinal allergy. In a prophylactic vaccination approach rflaA:Ova was shown to prevent the establishment of the intestinal allergy and all associated symptoms (weight loss, temperature drop, soft faeces). This fusion protein-mediated protection was accompanied by a reduced T cell activation, and reduced Th2 cytokines in intestinal homogenates. These effects were paralleled by a strong induction of Ova-specific IgG2a antibodies in rflaA:Ova-vaccinated sera, while Ova-specific IgE antibody production was significantly reduced. Therapeutic vaccination with rflaA:Ova reduced allergic symptoms and T cell activation but did not influence weight loss and antibody production. In all in vivo experiments vaccination with both proteins either provided alone or as a mixture did not have comparable effects. Future experiments aim at elucidating the mechanism and further optimization of the therapeutic vaccination approach. The results presented in this thesis demonstrate, that fusion proteins containing flagellin have strong immune modulatory capacities both in vitro and in vivo. Therefore, such constructs are promising vaccine candidates for the therapy of type I allergies.
