Counting Her Dresses and other plays, devised by Lib Taylor, is a short, mixed-media, promenade performance based on theatre writings by Gertrude Stein. Gertrude Stein was an American writer who lived in Paris for most of her adult life and was a significant figure in the development of early twentieth century modernism. She was an artists’ patron and one of the first collectors of paintings by Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne and others. She wrote novels, short stories, poetry and criticism, as well as a number of very short ‘plays’ and opera libretti. Even though her plays are very rarely performed they have been very influential in the development of avant-garde theatre. The performance juxtaposes a soundcape of voices, live performance, an ‘exhibition’ of paintings and mediated images projected onto and across the space to evoke Stein’s sense of theatre as a place of experience and emotion, not as a place of story and action. The performance comprises five theatre fragments which have been combined in a collage that alludes to the experimental art that Stein promoted.

Objective: ‘Music Therapeutic Caregiving’, when caregivers sing for or together with persons with dementia during morning care situations, has been shown to increase verbal and nonverbal communication between persons with dementia and their caregivers, as well as enhance positive and decrease negative emotions in persons with dementia. No studies about singing during mealtimes have been conducted, and this pilot project was designed to elucidate this. However, since previous studies have shown that there is a risk that persons with dementia will start to sing along with the caregiver, the caregiver in this study hummed such that the person with dementia did not sing instead of eat. The aim of this pilot project was threefold: to describe expressed emotions in a woman with severe dementia, and describe communication between her and her caregivers without and with the caregiver humming. The aim was also to measure food and liquid intake without and with humming. Method: The study was constructed as a Single Case ABA design in which the ordinary mealtime constituted a baseline which comprised a woman with severe dementia being fed by her caregivers in the usual way. The intervention included the same woman being fed by the same caregiver who hummed while feeding her. Data comprised video observations that were collected once per week over 5 consecutive weeks. The Verbal and Nonverbal Interaction Scale and Observed Emotion Rating Scale were used to analyze the recorded interactions. Results: A slightly positive influence of communication was shown for the woman with dementia, as well as for the caregiver. Further, the women with dementia showed a slight increase in expressions of positive emotions, and she ate more during the intervention. Conclusion: Based on this pilot study no general conclusions can be drawn. It can be concluded, however, that humming while feeding persons with dementia might slightly enhance communication, and positive expressed emotions in persons with dementia. To confirm this, more studies on group levels are needed. Because previous studies have found that caregiver singing during caring situations influences persons with dementia positively it might be desirable to test the same during mealtime.

Kinetic studies of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the surface of Pt in alkaline conditions, reported in this paper, show that electrocatalytic activity is enhanced after adsorption of S-2 ions. EIS and steady-state polarization curve data pointed to an undoubted improvement in performance with the Pt-S cathode that was attributed to higher adsorbed hydrogen coverage. Experimental findings suggested an increase in the electronic density of the modified surface sites that may strengthen the interaction between H2O and the adsorption site and, consequently, accelerates the Volmer step. Introduction: The demand for optimal esthetics has increased with the advance of the implant dentistry and with the desire for easier, safer and faster technique allowing predictable outcomes. Thus, the aim of this case report was to describe a combined approach for the treatment of a periodontally compromised tooth by means of atraumatic tooth extraction, immediate flapless implant placement, autogenous block and particulate bone graft followed by connective tissue graft and immediate provisionalization of the crown in the same operatory time. Case Report: A 27-year-old woman underwent the proposed surgical procedures for the treatment of her compromised maxillary right first premolar. The tooth was removed atraumatically with a periotome without incision. A dental implant was inserted 3 mm apical to the cement-enamel junction of the adjacent teeth enabling the ideal tridimensional implant position. An osteotomy was performed in the maxillary tuber for block bone graft harvesting that allowed the reconstruction of the alveolar buccal plate. Thereafter, an autogenous connective tissue graft was placed to increase both the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the alveolar socket reaching the patient functional and esthetic expectations. Conclusion: This treatment protocol was efficient to create a harmonious gingival architecture with sufficient width and thickness, maintaining the stability of the alveolar bone crest yielding excellent aesthetic results after 2-years of follow-up. We suggest that this approach can be considered a viable alternative for the treatment of periodontally compromised tooth in the maxillary esthetic area enhancing patient comfort and satisfaction.
