Emission trading with greenhouse gases and green certificates are part if the climate policy the main target of which is reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon dioxide and fine particle emissions of energy production in Helsinki Metropolitan area are calculated in this study. The analysis is made mainly by district heating point of view and the changes of the district heating network are assessed. Carbon dioxide emissions would be a bit higher, if the district heating network is expanded, but then the fine particle emissions would be much lower. Carbon dioxide emissions are roughly 10 % higher, if the district heating network is expanded at same rate as it has in past five years in the year 2030. The expansion of district heating network would decrease the fine particle emissions about 40 %. The cost of the expansion is allocated to be reduction cost of the fine particle emissions, which is considerably higher than the traditional reduction methods costs. The possible new nuclear plant would reduce the emissions considerably and the costs of the nuclear plant would be relatively low comparing the other energy production methods.

Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin vihreitä arvoja sellun nykyisessä markkinoinnissa ja käsiteltiin lähiajan haasteita markkinoinnin näkökulmasta. Metsäsertifioinnit PEFC ja FSC vaikuttavat sellun markkinointiin, samaten nähtiin ympäristömerkkien olevan voimakkaammin tulossa mukaan sellun liiketoimintaan. Yrityksen suorituskykyä ympäristöasioissa kuvaamaan on kehitetty erilaisia indeksejä. Näissä on jo mukana sellua valmistavia yrityksiä. Lisäksi työssä tarkasteltiin sellua valmistavia yrityksiä.

The purpose of this thesis was to study how certificates could be used to improve security of mobile devices. In the theoretical part the usage of certificates to improve security is explained. In the practical part a concept of certificate handling middleware is introduced and implemented. This is to demonstrate what kind of functionality is needed to provide an improvement over the current situation in security with mobile devices. The certificate handling middleware is a concept that would work better if implemented directly into mobile device's core functionality. Many of the mobile devices have a certificate store to some degree and often it is not used to store other people's certificates. A certificate store combined with address book and added with possibility to add attributes to the people such as group memberships would be sufficient to satisfy the needs of many emerging sharing and social applications.

Diplomityössä selvitettiin Fortum Power and Heat Oy:n Loviisan VVER-440 painevesireaktorilaitosten termisen tehon laskentaan liittyviä epävarmuuksia. Laitoksen turvallisuusteknisissä käyttöehdoissa (TTKE) määrätään reaktorin suurimmaksi sallituksi lämpötehoksi 1500 MW. Tähän perustuen haluttiin selvittää nykyiseen RT1 laskentaan liittyvät epävarmuudet tarkastamalla nykyinen laskenta ja siinä käytetyt termohydrauliset laskentasovitteet. Työn alussa selostetaan lyhyesti Loviisan voimalaitoksen toimintaperiaate, jonka jälkeen esitellään laskentaan osallistuvat prosessimittaukset ja niihin liittyvät epävarmuustekijät. Mittauksille määritettiin epävarmuudet käyttäen hyödyksi komponenttivalmistajien tietoja sekä laitoksen kalibrointitodistuksia ja näiden lisäksi laskettiin standardin mukainen virhe virtauslaipoille. Edellä mainittujen virheiden perusteella voitiin laskea tehon epävarmuudet yksittäiselle höyrystimelle, josta edelleen varianssien summamenetelmällä saatiin reaktorin termiselle teholle 0,78 %:n epävarmuus 95 % luottamustasolla. Laskettua tehon epävarmuutta verrattiin Monte Carlo -menetelmällä suoritettuun tarkistuslaskentaan, jolla termisen tehon epävarmuudeksi saatiin 0,53 %, luottamustason ollessa 95 %. Työssä tarkasteltiin keskiarvotuksen vaikutusta mittausdataan. Näissä tarkasteluissa havaittiin pinnansäädöstä aiheutuva reaktoritehon huojunta, joka oli työn merkittävin havainto.

Diplomityössä tarkastellaan kohdeyrityksen hitsatuille teräsrakenteille asetettuja vaatimuksia Norjan ja Venäjän arktisilla alueilla. Teknisten vaatimusten lisäksi tutkitaan terästen kylmäkäyttäytymistä ja hitsaustuotannolle kohdistettuja vaatimuksia. Tutkimuksen lopussa käsitellään Venäjän ja Norjan markkinoiden erityispiirteitä ja keinoja markkinoille pääsemiseksi. Tutkimuksen perusteella havaitaan, että kohdeyritys voi suunnitella ja valmistaa sekä Norjan että Venäjän vaatimusten mukaisia rakenteita ilman suuria muutoksia rakenteisiin tai hitsaustuotantoon. Materiaalien ja valmistuksen laadun sekä niiden valvonnan merkitys korostuu arktisissa hankkeissa. Yrityksellä on käytössään standardit EN 1090, ISO 9001, ISO 3834 ja ISO 14122, jotka edesauttavat yrityksen kansainvälistymistä. Hitsattujen rakenteiden haurasmurtumariski kasvaa kylmissä olosuhteissa. Haurasmurtuman ydintymistä edesauttavat tekijät täytyy tunnistaa ja niitä on vältettävä suunnittelussa ja valmistuksessa. Lujempien ja sitkeämpien terästen käyttäminen kylmissä olosuhteissa on perusteltua, mutta ne asettavat omat haasteensa hitsaukselle.

Double grade S420MH/S355J2H – rakenneputki on Ruukin kylmämuovattujen rakenneputkien vakioteräslaji. Se voidaan mitoittaa joko lujuusluokan S355 tai S420 mukaisesti. Teräslajin S355 mukaisesti mitoitettaessa on suunnittelu yksinkertaista. Painonsäästöä ja pidennettyjä jännevälejä haluttaessa käytetään lujuusluokan S420 mukaista mitoitusta. Työn tavoitteena oli selvittää kylmämuovattujen teräsrakenneputkien todellinen puristuskestävyys. Eurocode 3:n mukaan kylmämuovatut teräsrakenneputket kuuluvat nurjahduskäyrälle c. Tutkimukseen valittiin viisi eri profiilia olevaa rakenneputkea, joiden poikkileikkausluokat olivat 1, 2, 3 ja 4. Käytettäessä rakenneputkia puristussauvoina, on teräksen käyttö tehokkainta poikkileikkausluokassa 3, lähellä poikkileikkausluokkaa 4. Rakenneputkista laskettiin muunnetun hoikkuuden arvoilla 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 ja 1.5 koesauvojen pituudet kaikille profiileille. Valmistettiin kolme samanlaista koesauvaa jokaisesta koosta ja puristuskokeita suoritettiin yhteensä 57 kappaletta. Koesauvojen todelliset pituudet, alkukäyryydet ja poikkileikkaukset mitattiin. Ainestodistuksista saatiin materiaalin todelliset lujuudet. Laskettiin Eurocode 3:n mukaisesti kestävyydet nurjahduskäyrille a, b ja c. Laskennallisia kestävyyksiä verrattiin puristuskokeiden tuloksiin. Puristuskokeiden tulosten perusteella voidaan b-käyrää pitää oikeana profiileille 100x100x3, 150,150x5 ja 200x200x6. Profiili 150x150x5 kuuluu poikkileikkausluokkaan 2. Profiilit 100x100x3 ja 200x200x6 kuuluvat poikkileikkausluokkaan 4. Profiili 50x50x2 kuuluu nurjahduskäyrälle c. Profiilin poikkileikkausluokka on 1 ja aiemmat tutkimukset tukevat nurjahduskäyrän c käyttöä. Profiilista 300x300x8.8 ei saatu testattua täyttä sarjaa sen suuren kapasiteetin rikottua testilaitteiston, mutta puristuskokeiden perusteella se kuuluu nurjahduskäyrälle b. Profiili kuuluu poikkileikkausluokkaan 4.

Tämän diplomityön tavoitteina oli luoda suunnitelma ISO 9001 ja 14001 -sertifikaatteihin oikeuttavalle laadunhallintajärjestelmälle ja luoda malli projektiorganisaation toiminnan mittaamiselle ja kehittämiselle. Lisäksi työn tarkoituksena oli luoda teoreettinen osaamispohja projektipäällikölle laadunhallintajärjestelmäprojektin läpiviemisen tueksi. Työssä perehdyttiin laadunhallinnan periaatteisiin, tietojärjestelmäprojektikehityksen elinkaareen, tietojärjestelmäprojektien kriittisiin menestystekijöihin ja itsearviointimallin laatimisperiaatteisiin. Diplomityön kanssa lomittain suoritetulle laadunhallintajärjestelmäprojektille parhaiten sopivat käytännöt tunnistettiin kirjallisuudesta sekä puolistrukturoidulla haastattelulla Volvo Finland Ab:n johdon edustajille. Työssä luodun suunnitelman mukainen laadunhallintajärjestelmä toteutettiin Volvo Finland Ab:lle yhdessä nelikymmenhenkisen projektiorganisaation kanssa. Projektin aikana tehdyn aktiivisen, osallistuvan havainnoinnin ja diplomityössä luodun itsearviointimallin perusteella kartoitettiin projektiorganisaatiolle parhaiten sopivat toimintamenetelmät. Toimintamenetelmäkartoituksen tuloksena todettiin, että organisaation tietotaito on vertikaalista ja tästä syystä resurssienhallinta nostettiin kriittisimmäksi elementiksi projektien onnistumisen kannalta. Resurssienhallinnan tueksi ehdotettiin Stage-Gate-mallia projektien läpiviemiseen. Mallin avulla voitaisiin resurssit hallitusti kohdistaa uudelleen projektin joka vaiheessa.

The Loyal Orange Association of British America is a Protestant fraternal society. The Loyal Orange Association originated in Ulster, Ireland during the late eighteenth century. Its purpose was to promote Protestant rights and privileges. The association was exclusively Protestant, fraternal, democratic, and benevolent. Orange principles were brought to Upper Canada by Protestant Irish settlers after 1815. The first Canadian Orange Lodge was formally established in Brockville, Leeds County, 1830. By the late 19th and early 20th century, the Loyal Orange Association of British North America had gained considerable popularity and political influence. Many prominent politicians, including several prime ministers, were members. Orangemen were particularly concerned with issues such as separate school funding, language rights, immigration, religious freedom and conscription. Inniskillin Wines was founded by Karl Kaiser and Donald Ziraldo in 1975 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. They had met the previous year, when Karl Kaiser, a winemaker and chemist, purchased some grapes from Donald Ziraldo, who owned and operated Ziraldo Nurseries. The two shared a vision of producing better quality Canadian wines and formed a partnership, with Kaiser making the wine and Ziraldo serving as company President. In 1975, they were granted a winery license by the LCBO, the first one granted since 1929. The company name Inniskillin was derived from the Inniskilling Fusilliers, an Irish regiment whose Colonel once owned the land that Ziraldo Nurseries occupied. This was the original site of the winery, although in 1978 the winery moved to the Brae Burn Estate, their current location. In 1982 the winery expanded by 50 acres with the addition of the Montague Vineyard, and another 50 acres was acquired in 1991. The Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyard produces single vineyards bottlings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris. In 1984, Karl Kaiser began producing icewine from Vidal grapes frozen naturally on the vine. Inniskillin garnered international acclaim for the quality of their icewines, receiving the prestigious Grand Prix d’Honneur at VinExpo in 1991, for their 1989 Vidal icewine. This established Inniskillin as a producer of world class wines, while also raising the profile of Canadian wines in general. The company branched out their operations, first acquiring vineyards in the Napa Valley in 1989 to form Inniskillin Napa (producing wines under the Terra label), and in 1994 establishing Inniskillin Okanagan in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. The Napa valley venture ceased in the mid 90’s, while Inniskillin Okanagan continues to operate. In 2006, Karl Kaiser and Donald Ziraldo left Inniskillin. Kaiser retired, while Ziraldo became chair of the Vineland Research and Innovation Center (2006-2011), and remains involved in the wine industry. In 2007, Bruce Nicholson joined Inniskillin as winemaker. Nicholson continues to produce award-winning wines under the Inniskillin label, receiving the top award, the Premio Speciale Gran Award, at Vinitaly 2009 for his 2006 Gold Vidal and his 2006 Sparkling Vidal Icewine. In 2012, he received several awards for the 2008 Riesling Icewine, including gold at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, UK, the San Francisco International Wine Championships, and Selections Mondials des Vins Canada.

The Bank of Canada first introduced Canada Savings Bonds during the First and Second World Wars. At the time, they were known as War Savings Certificates and Victory Bonds and were used to fund the war effort. In 1946, Canada Savings Bonds were used as part of Canada’s Postwar Financing Program. At that time, the government also introduced the sale of bonds through payroll deduction. Canada Savings Bonds proved to be very popular, providing investors with a convenient, flexible and safe investment. Over time the bonds failed to remain competitive with other low-risk investment options, and the high cost of administering the program called into question its relevance. An independent report commissioned by the government in 2004 recommended that the bonds be phased out, however, the government decided to keep the program and make some revisions. As of 2012, Canada Savings Bonds are available exclusively through the payroll savings program, while Canada Premium Bonds (introduced in 1998) are available through financial institutions, dealers and by phone.

Dorothy Rungeling was born in 1911 and raised in Fenwick, Ontario, by her adopted mother, Ethelwyn Wetherald. After graduating high school, she attended Fort Erie business College. She worked briefly in Toronto and then Hamilton, but eventually took a job with Brown Brothers’ Nursery in Pelham to be closer to home. Dorothy pursued many interests, learning to play the violin, saxophone and clarinet. She met her husband Charles at a local dance where she was playing. In 1939, they opened an automobile and farm machinery business in Welland. In their spare time, they were active in skeet and trap shooting, for which Dorothy won many trophies. In the early 1940s, Dorothy developed a passion for horses, training and showing them in addition to teaching riding at the Welland Riding Club, as well as judging at horse shows. By the late 1940s her interest in horses was waning, but she soon after discovered and pursued a new interest: flying. She joined the Welland Flying Club, obtained a flying licence, and in 1949 purchased her first plane. She proceeded to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence in 1951, an Instructor’s Licence in 1953, and a Senior Commercial Licence in 1954. She participated in many air races in the 1950s, including the All Women’s International Air Races, the Women’s Transcontinental Air Races, and the Canadian Governor-General’s Cup Air Race. Some of the most notable races were the 1954 International Air Race, where Dorothy met with President Batista of Cuba, and the Governor-General’s Cup Air Race, where she won 1st place in 1953 and 1956 (and was the only woman competing). In 1958, she was also the first Canadian woman to solo pilot a helicopter. That same year she obtained her Airline Transport Licence. She also wrote several articles on aviation, contributing to publications such as Canadian Aviation and Air Facts, a U.S. aviation magazine. In addition to these articles, Dorothy authored several books about her life, as well as a selection of poems and articles by Ethelwyn Wetherald. As planes became more expensive, Dorothy spent less time flying, instead pursuing an interest in sailing. She and her husband bought a sailboat and became members of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club. In 2003, Dorothy was awarded the Order of Canada for her accomplishments. She also wrote a regular column for the Voice of Pelham in 2012-2013, called A Century in Pelham. Dorothy celebrated her 100th birthday in 2011, and remains an active member of the community.

Thompson from H.N., Lieutenant Colonel of the 4th Lincoln Militia regarding the certificates and saying that he will comply. An envelope is included with this letter, Sept. 21, 1838.

Percy Carruthers Band was born on November 27, 1892 in Toronto, Ontario to Charles Walter Band, a grain merchant and Jessie Camp Shaw Band. He graduated from Upper Canada College and became a broker. He worked at the Dominion Bank and then at Maple Leaf Milling Company. He was stationed at Port Colborne for a while. Before leaving for the front, he was with Bankers Bond Company of Toronto and is also listed as working with the firm of Bailey, Wood and Cross. Lieutenant Band received a Certificate of Military Qualifications on Dec. 24th, 1914. He received his Certificate of Military Instruction on Nov. 30, 1915. He received these certificates while with the 48th Regiment (Highlanders). He enlisted in 1914 and went overseas in August of 1915 as an officer in the 35th Battalion. By August 26, 1915, he is listed as being with the 23rd Reserve Battalion. A year later, in August of 1916 Lieutenant Band arrived in France and was posted to the 2nd Battalion – “The Second Iron”. In 1916, Band was the victim of shell shock received during a charge. He was wounded in April of 1917 at Vimy Ridge yet he remained on duty. At this time he received a gunshot wound to his right jaw. He earned a promotion to Captain on September 16th, 1917. He was wounded again in November of 1917 at Passchendaele where he suffered a gunshot wound to the ear. For his courage and determination Percy Band received the Military Cross on February 18, 1918. He led his company under difficult circumstances even though he was wounded. He was awarded a bar to the Military Cross for gallantry during a successful attack on two villages on December 2nd, 1918. During this attack he led his company against enemy machine guns. It is said that he displayed exceptional leadership qualities and skill during this time. On the 30th of August in 1918, he made a daring reconnaissance to the front under heavy fire in an attack on Upton Wood. He was also commended on his gallantry during attacks on Cagnicourt and the Canal du Nord in September of 1918. He was awarded the second bar to the Military Cross on February 1, 1919. The award of the Croix de Guerre was conferred on Captain Percy Carruthers Band by the President of the French Republic on December 15th, 1918 for distinguished service rendered during the course of the campaign. His general demobilization took place on April 25, 1919. Percy Band married Margaret Julia Woodruff on November 25, 1919, and they had three children: Charles Woodruff Band (1921), Margaret Elizabeth Band (1924) and Robert DeVeaux Woodruff Band (1927). After the war, Mr. Band was a manager at Geo. Weston Bread and Cakes Limited, St. Catharines. Percy Band was also an avid collector. His collections included antique toys and art. He died suddenly on May 19, 1961. The Toronto Telegram published this about him: “Captain Percy Carruthers Band, M.C. with two Bars, Croix de Guerre with Palm – was an officer whose buoyant spirit and gallantry mirrored the vibrant soul of the Battalion. Blythe of heart, yet endowed with a fine sense of responsibility, he gave inspired leadership of No. 3 Company.”

After the events of September 11, the fear of terrorism led to the adoption of new anti-terrorist measures (elimination of appeals available to foreigners, reduction of legal aid, increased powers of detention, easier use of security certificates…). But in Canadian Charter of Rigths and Freedoms only the right to vote and be elected, the right to enter and remain in the country and the minority language educational rights specifically protect citizens. The protection of Canadian citizens cannot be based on the denial of foreigner´s rights. The same rights are at stake: The violation of a foreigners´s rights is a violation of citizen´s rights.
