Os objetivos deste trabalho foram selecionar progênies superiores de soja e avaliá-las, em casa de vegetação, quanto à resistência ao nematóide tipo 3 de cisto da soja (Heterodera glycines). Foram avaliadas 222 progênies segregantes de soja, em ensaios conduzidos em campo, nos anos 1999/2000, 2000/2001 e 2001/2002, sob delineamento de blocos aumentados de Federer, e no ano 2002/2003 em blocos ao acaso, com duas repetições, tendo sido avaliados dez atributos agronômicos. No ano de 2003 foi conduzido em casa de vegetação um ensaio com 11 progênies superiores, para a avaliação de resistência ao nematóide de cisto, adotando-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições. Com relação aos atributos agronômicos, as progênies JAB 99-17-4-9-1 e JAB 99-40-12-1-2 destacaram-se das demais por possuir médias adequadas para a maioria dos atributos. Por sua vez, na avaliação de resistência em casa de vegetação, seis progênies revelaram-se resistentes ao nematóide de cisto da soja tipo 3.

In order to study the efficiency of aldicarb against aphids, beneficial arthropods, and on cotton physiology, a trial was made at Jaboticabal, SP, Brazil, in 1992/93. The experimental design was a complete randomized block with seven replications and three treatments: 1) aldicarb 750 g of a.i./ha; 2) aldicarb 1050 g of a.i./ha; and 3) control. The results showed that aldicarb was effective in the control of aphids. Aldicarb applied in the furrow significantly increased boll number per plant, yield, and precociousness. The beneficial arthropods were not affected.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the reproduction of the soybean cyst nematode (SCN) in soybean plants in substract with different potassium (K) and calcium (Ca) doses. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design, with 25 treatments and six replicates. A factorial scheme (5 x 5) was used with five K doses (0; 150; 300; 450; and 600 mg / dm3 ) and five Ca doses (0; 75; 150; 225; and 300 mg / dm3 ). Eighteen days after sowing, plants were inoculated with 4,000 H. glycines race 3 eggs. Thirty days after inoculation a total of three weekly evaluations were performed measuring plant height and stem diameter. Seventy days after inoculation, the following variables were analyzed: measurement of leaf blade, numbers of eggs / pot, cysts / pot, eggs / cyst, females and cysts / root system, eggs / female and the reproduction factor of H. glycines. Root and shoot dry matter were weighed. Then, K and Ca shoot contents of each sample was obtained. There was a significant interaction between K and Ca doses only for number of eggs / female. The K doses significatively influenced the numbers of cysts / pot, eggs / cyst, eggs / pot, females and cysts / root system and reproduction factor. The Ca doses did not influence significatively the nematologic variables analyzed. The K-Ca interaction affected all crop-related variables analyzed. A significative K-Ca interaction was observed for Ca contents in shoot dry matter. The K contents were only influenced by potassium doses amended to the soil.

Feral dogs have been documented in all 50 states and estimates of damage in the U.S. from these animals amount to >$620 million annually. In Texas alone, it is estimated that over $5 million in damage to livestock annually can be attributed to feral dogs. We reviewed national statistics on feral dog damage reported to USDA, APHIS, Wildlife Services for a 10-year period from 1997 through 2006. Damage by feral dogs crossed multiple resource categories (e.g., agriculture, natural resources); some examples of damage include killing and affecting the behavior and habitat use of native wildlife; killing and maiming livestock; and their role as disease vectors to wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. We review the role of dog damage in the U.S., synthesize the amount of damage between resource categories (agriculture, human health and safety, disease, and natural resources), and report trends in dog damage during the 10-year period. Results showed an increase in dog damage across all resource categories indicating the importance of management.
