Shoppingscapes on urban roads, such as streets and avenues, require study and more specific attention. You must be aware of the emotional communication, an important factor with regard to the influence on the perception and acquisition process by the observer. Reaching the consumer cognitively, arousing emotion and desire to want to have the observed object is one of the goals of emotional communication, and that only happens with the proper use of elements of perception. This paper aims to highlight the need for interdisciplinary design and architecture, especially in the case of shoppingscapes in open spaces that sell fashion items. The case study raises a reflection on the elements of perception in the windows as to whether they are being clearly communicated. It also discusses how the same are interfering or being interfered by the shoppingscapes of Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon.

This paper deals with the traditional permutation flow shop scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing mean flowtime, therefore reducing in-process inventory. A new heuristic method is proposed for the scheduling problem solution. The proposed heuristic is compared with the best one considered in the literature. Experimental results show that the new heuristic provides better solutions regarding both the solution quality and computational effort.

In this paper, we consider a real-life heterogeneous fleet vehicle routing problem with time windows and split deliveries that occurs in a major Brazilian retail group. A single depot attends 519 stores of the group distributed in 11 Brazilian states. To find good solutions to this problem, we propose heuristics as initial solutions and a scatter search (SS) approach. Next, the produced solutions are compared with the routes actually covered by the company. Our results show that the total distribution cost can be reduced significantly when such methods are used. Experimental testing with benchmark instances is used to assess the merit of our proposed procedure. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.

A new questionnaire, the Maternal Mental State Input Inventory (MMSII) was created to measure mothers' preferences for introducing and elaborating on mental states in conversation with their young children. In two studies, the questionnaire was given to mothers of young children, and the children's theory of mind (ToM) development was assessed with standard tasks. In both studies, the questionnaire exhibited good internal reliability, and significant correlations emerged between mothers' self-reported preferences for elaborated, explanatory talk about the mental states and children's theory of mind performance. Further, mothers' conversational preferences, as measured by the MMSII, were the best predictors of children's theory of mind development when relevant control variables were included in the analyses. These results converge with naturalistic observational research that has demonstrated links between mothers' conversational styles and their children's theory of mind. They go further in suggesting that mothers' tendencies toward elaborated, explanatory talk about a range of mental states is particularly beneficial to children's theory of mind development. A utilização massiva da internet e dos serviços que oferece por parte do utilizador final potencia a evolução dos mesmos, motivando as empresas a apostarem no desenvolvimento deste tipo de soluções. Requisitos como o poder de computação, flexibilidade e escalabilidade tornam-se cada vez mais indissociáveis do desenvolvimento aplicacional, o que leva ao surgimento de paradigmas como o de Cloud Computing. É neste âmbito que surge o presente trabalho. Com o objetivo de estudar o paradigma de Cloud Computing inicia-se um estudo sobre esta temática, onde é detalhado o seu conceito, a sua evolução histórica e comparados os diferentes tipos de implementações que suporta. O estudo detalha posteriormente a plataforma Azure, sendo analisada a sua topologia e arquitetura, detalhando-se os seus componentes e a forma como esta mitiga alguns dos problemas mencionados. Com o conhecimento teórico é desenvolvido um protótipo prático sobre esta plataforma, em que se exploram algumas das particularidades da topologia e se interage com as principais redes sociais. O estudo culmina com uma análise sobre os benefícios e desvantagens do Azure e através de um levantamento das necessidades da empresa, determinam-se as oportunidades que a utilização da plataforma poderá proporcionar.
