1-Hydroxybenzotriazole spontaneously self-assembles to form hollow, linear microtubes initiated by controlled evaporation from water. The tube cavities act as thermo-labile micromoulds for the synthesis of linear gold microrods. Rhodamine 6G-labelled gold microrods, exhibiting surface enhanced resonance Raman activity, have been synthesized using the HOBT microtubes.

Superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) of acrylic acid, sodium acrylate, and acrylamide (AM), crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, were synthesized by inverse suspension polymerization. The equilibrium swelling capacities of the SAPs were determined and these decreased with increasing AM content. The adsorption of the two cationic dyes, methylene blue and rhodamine 6G, on the dry as well as equilibrium swollen SAPs was investigated. The amount of the dye adsorbed at equilibrium per unit weight of the SAPs and the rate constants of adsorption were determined. The amount of the dye adsorbed at equilibrium by the SAPs decreased with increasing mol % of AM in the SAPs. The amount of the dye adsorbed at equilibrium was almost equal for the dry and equilibrium swollen SAPs. However, the equilibrium swollen SAPs adsorbed dyes at a higher rate than the dry SAPs. The higher rate of adsorption was attributed to the availability of all the anionic groups present in the fully elongated conformation of the SAPs in the equilibrium swollen state. The effect of initial dye concentration on the adsorption was also investigated and the adsorption was described by Langmuir adsorption isotherms. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dip-pen nanolithography (DPN) has been developed to pattern monolayer film of various molecules on suitable substrate through the controlled movement of ink-coated atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip, which makes DPN a potentially powerful tool for making the functional nanoscale devices. In this paper, the direct patterning of rhodamine 6G on mica by dip-pen nanolithography was demonstrated. R6G features patterned on the mica was successfully achieved with different tip movement which can be programmed by Nanoscript(TM) language. From the AFM image of R6G patterns, we know that R6G molecule is flatly binding to the mica surface through electrostatic interaction, thus stable R6G nanostructures could be formed on mica. The influence of translation speed and contact time on DPN was discussed. The method can be extended to direct patterning of many other organic molecules, and should open many opportunities for miniaturized optical device and site-specific biological staining.

A transparent thin film was prepared by depositing the sol-get mixture for the synthesis of MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieve doped with rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye on glass substrates. The film of silica-surfactant-R6G materials, which was identified to possess hexagonally ordered mesostructure, was composed of nanocrystallites about 35 nm in diameter and 1-10 mum in thickness. Cleanness of the substrates, concentration of the sol-gel mixture and rate of evaporation of the solvent were the key factors affecting transparency and homogeneity of the film. Moreover, optical change and lack in dye aggregation were observed to the R6G-functionalized MCM-41 thin film in contrast with that in ethanol solution.

The results of a kinetic study of the bleaching of the photostable dye rhodamine 6G by dissolved oxygen, photosensitized by TiO2, are reported. The observed variations in the initial rate of dye photobleaching as a function of the O2 percentage, temperature, incident light intensity and concentrations of rhodamine 6G and sacrificial electron donor are described and the results are rationalized using a proposed photochemical reaction scheme. The photosensitized bleaching of rhodamine 6G dye by TiO2 has a formal quantum yield of 2.65 X 10(-3), but the rate of complete photomineralization is about twofold slower. The overall activation energy for the semiconductor-sensitized dye photobleaching process is 15.0 +/- 1.5 kJ mol-1.

Dual beam mode-matched thermal lens method has been employed to measure the heat diffusion in nanofluid of silver with various volumes of rhodamine 6G, both dispersed in water. The important observation is an indication of temperature dependent diffusivity and that the overall heat diffusion is slower in the chemically prepared Ag sol compared to that of water. The experimental results can be explained assuming that Brownian motion is the main mechanism of heat transfer under the present experimental conditions. Light induced aggregation of the nanoparticles can also result in an anomalous diffusion behavior.
Loss characterization in rhodamine 6G doped polymer film waveguide by side illumination fluorescence
Resumo:
We report the position dependent tuning of fluorescence emission from rhodamine 6G doped polymethylmethacrylate film waveguide using a side illumination technique. The transmitted fluorescence as a function of the distance from the point of illumination is measured by translating the waveguide horizontally across a monochromatic light source. This technique has been utilized to characterize the optical loss in dye doped waveguides. We observe that the optical loss coefficients for shorter and longer distances of propagation through the dye doped waveguide are different. At longer distance of propagation a decrease in optical loss coefficient is observed

The photobleaching of the lasing dye Rhodamine 6G embedded in the solid matrix poly(methyl methacrylate) was investigated using a photoacoustic technique. Chopped laser radiation from an argon ion laser at four different wavelengths was used for the study. Experimental results indicate that the photobleaching rate is directly proportional to the incident laser power while it decreases with increase in concentration of the dye molecules. In the present case we have not observed any dependence of photobleaching on the chopping frequency. One-photon absorption is found to be responsible for the photobleaching of the dye within the selected range of laser power

Dual-beam transient thermal lens studies were carried out in aqueous solutions of rhodamine 6G using 532 nm pulses from a frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser. The analysis of the observed data showed that the thermal lens method can effectively be utilized to study the nonlinear absorption and aggregation which are taking place in a dye medium.

Two-photon absorption in methanol solutions of Rhodamine 6G is investigated by photoacoustics using the second harmonic of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser. Competition between one-photon and two-photon processes is observed, depending critically on the sample concentration and input light flux.

S1 to S3 excited singlet state absorption and two-photon absorption in Rhodamine 6G at the pump wavelengths of 532 and 1064 nm respectively are investigated. The advantages of employing the pulsed photoacoustic technique for conveniently observing excited singlet state absorption are discussed. It is shown that, since photoacoustics and fluorescence are complementary phenomena, analysis using both techniques will yield a better understanding of optical processes in molecules like Rhodamine 6G.
