This work is concerned with the magnetic properties of Ni(NO3)2·2H2O from (Hin-T) and (Hap-T) phase diagrams. From these diagrams we have obtained the values of Hc(0), TN and Tt. A comparison between experimental and theoretical values of Tt is made, where a Tt relation for a spin 1 metamagnetic model is found. © 1988.

A new approach to the experimental determination of the critical temperature of metamagnetic samples with non-zero demagnetizing factors is presented. The method is applied to metamagnetic Ni(NO3)2·2H2O, allowing the conclusion that this salt exhibits a tricritical point. Pressure dependence of the critical temperature, and the existence of a pressure-induced metamagnetic transition are also reported. © 1986.

Three new coordination polymers [M(Pht)(1-MeIm)2]n (where M=Cu (1), Zn (2), Co (3); Pht2−=dianion of o-phthalic acid; 1-MeIm=1-methylimidazole) and two compounds [M(1-MeIm)6](HPht)2 · 2H2O (M=Co (4), Ni (5)) have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The structures of 1–3 (2 is isostructural to 3) consist of [M(1-MeIm)2] building units connected by 1,6-bridging phthalate ions to form infinite chains. In complex 1, each copper(II) center adopts a square coordination mode of N2O2 type by two O atoms from different phthalate ions and two N atoms of 1-MeIm, whereas in 3 two independent metal atoms are tetrahedrally (N2O2) coordinated to a pair of Pht ligands and a pair of 1-MeIm molecules. There are only van der Waals interactions between the chains in 1, while the three-dimensional network in 3 is assembled by C–H⋯O contacts. In contrast to polymers 1–3 the structures of 4 and 5 (complexes are also isostructural) are made up of the [M(1-MeIm)6]2+ cation, two hydrogen phthalate anions (HPht−) and two H2O solvate molecules. The coordination around each metal(II) atom is octahedral with six nitrogen atoms of 1-MeIm. Extended hydrogen bonding networks embracing the solvate water molecules and a phthalate residue as well as the weak C–H⋯O interactions stabilize the three-dimensional structures. Magnetic studies clearly show that the magnetic ions do not interact with each other. Furthermore, in compound 4 we have another example of a highly anisotropic Co2+ ion with a rhombic g-tensor and large zero-field-splitting. The complexes were also characterized by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and all data are discussed in the terms of known structures.

The reaction of a tridentate Schiff base ligand HL (2-(3-dimethylaminopropylimino)-methyl]-phenol) with Ni(II) acetate or perchlorate salts in the presence of azide as coligand has led to two new Ni(II) complexes of formulas Ni3L2(OAc)(2)(mu(1,1)-N-3)(2)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2H(2)O (1) and Ni2L2(mu(1,1)-N-3) (mu(1,3)-N-3)](n)(2). Single crystal X-ray structures show that complex 1 is a linear trinuclear Ni(II) compound containing a mu(2)-phenwddo, an end-on (EO) azido and a syn-syn acetato bridge between the terminal and the central Ni(II) ions. Complex 2 can be viewed as a one-dimensional (1D) chain in which the triply bridged (di-mu(2)-phenoxido and EO azido) dimeric Ni-2 units are linked to each other in a zigzag pattern by a single end-to-end (EE) azido bridge. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility studies indicate the presence of moderate ferromagnetic exchange coupling in complex 1 with J value of 16.51(6) cm(-1). The magnetic behavior of 2 can be fitted in an alternating ferro- and antiferromagnetic model J(FM) = +34.2(2.8) cm(-1) and J(AF) = -21.6(1.1) cm(-1)] corresponding to the triple bridged dinuclear core and EE azido bridge respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to corroborate the magnetic results of 1 and 2. The contributions of the different bridges toward magnetic interactions in both compounds have also been calculated.

Three double phenoxido-bridged dinuclear nickel(II) complexes, namely [Ni-2(L-1)(2)(NCS)(2)] (1), [Ni-2(L-2)(2)(NCS)(2)] (2), and [Ni-2(L-3)(2)(NCS)(2)] (3) have been synthesized using the reduced tridentate Schiff-base ligands 2-[1-(3-methylamino-propylamino)-ethyl]-phenol (HL1), 2-[1-(2-dimethylamino-ethylamino)-ethyl]-phenol (HL2), and 2-[1-(3-dimethylarnino-propylamino)-ethyl]-phenol (HL3), respectively. The coordination compounds have been characterized by X-ray structural analyses, magnetic-susceptibility measurements, and various spectroscopic methods. In all complexes, the nickel(II) ions are penta-coordinated in a square-pyramidal environment, which is severely distorted in the case of 1 (Addison parameter tau = 0.47) and 3 (tau = 0.29), while it is almost perfect for 2 (tau = 0.03). This arrangement leads to relatively strong antiferromagnetic interactions between the Ni(II) (S = 1) metal centers as mediated by double phenoxido bridges (with J values of -23.32 (1), -35.45 (2), and -34.02 (3) cm(3) K mol(-1), in the convention H = -2JS(1)S(2)). The catalytic activity of these Ni compounds has been investigated for the aerial oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol. Kinetic data analysis following Michaelis-Menten treatment reveals that the catecholase activity of the complexes is influenced by the flexibility of the ligand and also by the geometry around the metal ion. Electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS) studies (in the positive mode) have been performed for all the coordination compounds in the presence of 3,5-DTBC to characterize potential complex-substrate intermediates. The mass-spectrometry data, corroborated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements, suggest that the metal centers are involved in the catecholase activity exhibited by the complexes.

Nickel zinc ferrites have been very widely used in the high‐frequency applications. In our present study we have prepared Ni1−x Znx Fe2O4 (0≤x≤1) using novel hydrazinium metal hydrazinecarboxylate precursors. High densities (∼99%) have been obtained for all the ferrites sintered at relatively low temperatures, 1100 °C, in comparison with the conventional method (≥1200 °C). The variation of magnetic properties like magnetic moment, Curie temperature, and permeability with zinc concentration have been studied.

The magnetic properties of carbon nanotube encapsulated nickel nanowires (C. E. nanowires of diameter similar to 10 nm), and its comparison to other forms of Ni are carried out in this work. The saturation magnetization (M-s) and coercivity (H-c) for C. E. nanowires are 1.0 emu/g and 230 Oe. The temperature dependence of coercivity follows T-0.77 dependence indicating a superparamagnetic behavior. The field-cooled and zero-field-cooled plots indicate that the blocking temperature (T-B) similar to 300 K. These altered magnetic properties of C. E. nanowires are mainly due to the nanoscale confinement effect from carbon nanotube encapsulation. The shape and magnetic environment enhance the total magnetic anisotropy of C. E. nanowires by a factor of four.

Employing nitronyl nitroxide lanthanide(III) complexes as metallo-ligands allowed the efficient and highly selective preparation of three series of unprecedented heterotri-spin (Cu Ln-radical) one-dimensional compounds. These 2p-3d-4f spin systems, namely Ln(3)Cu(hfac)II(NitPhOAII)41 (Ln(III)=Gd 1(Gd), Tb 1(Tb), Dy 1(Dy); NitPhOAII=2-(4'-allyloxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3- oxide), Ln(3)Cu(hfac)II(NitPhOPO4] (1-nrn=Gd 2Gd, Tb 2Tb, Dy 2(Dy), Ho 2HOf Yb 2yb; NitPhOPr= 2-(4'-propoxyphenyI)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide) and Ln3Cu(hfac)II(NitPhOB441 (LnIm=Gd 3Gd, Tb 3Tb, Dy 3(Dy); NitPhOBz=2-(4'-benzyloxy- phenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-imidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide) involve O-bound nitronyl nitroxide radicals as bridging ligands in chain structures with a Cu-Nit-Ln-Nit-Ln-Nit-Ln-Nit] repeating unit. The dc magnetic studies show that ferromagnetic metal radical interactions take place in these heterotri-spin chain complexes, these and the next-neighbor interactions have been quantified for the Gd derivatives. Complexes 1Tb and 2Tb exhibit frequency dependence of ac magnetic susceptibilities, indicating single-chain magnet behavior.

The evolution of crystallographic texture in a nanocrystalline nickel-20 wt% cobalt alloy has been investigated for deformation up to large strains. The effect of texture on magnetic properties has been evaluated. The material shows characteristic copper-type texture at large strain levels. Microstructural examinations indicate that the evolution of texture is assisted by deformation-induced grain growth. The values of saturation magnetization and coercivity have been correlated with the crystallographic texture and grain size. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We report here the investigations on the size dependent variation of magnetic properties of nickel ferrite nanoparticles. Nickel ferrite nanoparticles of different sizes (14 to 22 nm) were prepared by the sol-gel route at different annealing temperatures. They are characterized by TGA-DTA, XRD, SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy techniques for the confirmation of the temperature of phase formation, thermal stability, crystallinity, morphology and structural status of the nickel ferrite nanoparticles. The magnetization studies revealed that the saturation magnetization (M-s), retentivity (M-r) increase, while coercivity (H-c) and anisotropy (K-eff) decrease as the particle size increases. The observed value of M-s is found to be relatively higher for a particle size of 22 nm. In addition, we have estimated the magnetic domain size using magnetic data and correlated to the average particle size. The calculated magnetic domain size is closely matching with the particle size estimated from XRD. Impedance spectroscopy was employed to study the samples in an equivalent circuit to understand their transport phenomena. It shows that nickel ferrite nanoparticles exhibit a non-Debye behavior with increasing particle size due to the influence of increasing disorders, surface effects, grain size and grain boundaries, etc. (C) 2015 Author(s). LiMn2-xTixO4 compounds with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 were prepared by solid state reaction and Pechini technique. Powder X-ray diffraction showed that all samples crystallize with the spinel crystal structure (S.G. Fd3-m). The cubic unit-cell parameter increases with the Ti content. The influence of the Ti content and cationic distribution on the magnetic properties of the compounds was studied by measuring the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the magnetization: substitution by non-magnetic d0 Ti4+ ions appeared to weaken the magnetic interactions between the manganese ions. The electrical properties of LiMnTiO4 were studied by AC impedance spectroscopy and DC polarisation measurements, which revealed the electronic character of the conduction process. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. In this paper we report about the electrical properties of La 0.7Ca0.3MnO3 compounds substituted by copper on the manganese site and/or deliberately contaminated by SiO2 in the reactant mixture. Several phenomena have been observed and discussed. SiO2 addition leads to the formation of an apatite-like secondary phase that affects the electrical conduction through the percolation of the charge carriers. On the other hand, depending on the relative amounts of copper and silicon, the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity can be noticeably modified: our results enable us to compare the effects of crystallographic vacancies on the A and B sites of the perovskite with the influence of the copper ions substituted on the manganese site. The most original result occurs for the compounds with a small ratio Si/Cu, which display double-peaked resistivity vs. temperature curves. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A systematic study of syntheses and magnetic properties of the Nd-3 Fe29-xCrx (x=4.5, 4.7, 5.0, and 5.5) compounds has been performed. The single-phase compounds of Nd3Fe29-xCrx can be formed in the range 4.5 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 5.5. The Curie temperature Tc, the saturation magnetization M-S at 4.2 K, the anisotropy field H-A at 4.2 K and room temperature, and the intra-sublattice exchange coupling parameter j(FeFe) at 4.2 K for the Nd3Fe29-xCrx compounds decrease with increasing Cr composition from x=4.5 to 5.5, respectively. Nitrogenation and carbonation, unlike hydrogenation, result mainly in improvements of the Curie temperature, the saturation magnetization and the anisotropy field at 4.2 K and room temperature for the Nd3Fe29-xCrx compounds compared with their parent compounds.

The solid solutions of CdYFeWO7, which are cubic pyrochlores of the type A(2)B(2)O(7), have been prepared and their structures were determined using Ab initio method. Rietveld refinement of the powder XRD data showed that CdYFeWO7 adopted cubic (Fd-3m) structure, while oxides crystallized in a defect-pyrochlore structure where both O (48f) and O'(8b) sites were partially occupied, and the frustrated cations sublattice precluded long range ordering of Fe/W in the pyrochlore structure. Charge distribution analysis also suggested incomplete occupation of different oxygen sites, thus the compound was non-stoichiometric, with the formula CdYFeW0.982O6.94, Magnetic measurements were carried out to find that Fe ions were in the high spin trivalent state. Curie Weiss paramagnetism down to similar to 5 K and the characteristic superposition between FC and ZFC suggested spin liquid rather than spin glass state.

Two new compounds with the formula of CdYMWO7 (M = Cr, Mn) were prepared by solid state reaction. They crystallized with orthorhombic structure with the cell parameters of a = 11.7200 Angstrom, b = 7.1779 Angstrom, c = 6.9805 Angstrom (CdYCrWO7), and a = 11.7960 Angstrom, b = 6.1737 Angstrom, c = 7.6530 Angstrom (CdYMnWO7). These compounds are insulators with high resistivities at room temperature. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of CdYMWO7 (M = Cr and Mn) show Curie-Weiss Law's behaviors from 80 to 300 K. The magnetic moments at room temperature fit very well with those corresponding to Cr3+ and Mn3+ ions. This suggests that both Cr and Mn ions exist in + 3 oxidation state in CdYMWO7 compounds.
