The AustLit Gateway and Scholarly Bibliography: A Specialist Implementation of the FRBR

This paper discusses how the AustLit: Australian Literature Gateway's interpretation, enhancement, and implementation of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions' Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR Final Report 1998) model is meeting the needs of Australian literature scholars for accurate bibliographic representation of the histories of literary texts. It also explores how the AustLit Gateway's underpinning research principles, which are based on the tradition of scholarly enumerative and descriptive bibliography, with enhancements from analytical bibliography and literary biography, have impacted upon our implementation of the FRBR model. The major enhancement or alteration to the model is the use of enhanced manifestations, which allow the full representation of all agents' contributions to be shown in a highly granular format by enabling creation events to be incorporated at all levels of the Work, Expression, and Manifestation nexus.

It is a matter of pride that Costa Rica and the National University, both with extensive experience in the development of library we are the headquarters for the first time, an event that brings together three different activities on this theme: the Central American Seminar, Workshops and Standing Committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, which will strengthen the monitoring and Manifestos on Public Libraries, Schools and Internet IFLA-UNESCO. A step-by-step guide for building localised versions of the MIC site. Version 1.1

This is a test version of the kit for localising the Moving Image Collections (MIC) site, designed in the context of a research project undertaken by the Audiovisual and Multimedia Section (AVMS) of IFLA.

Science publication workshops as a strategy to improve the visibility of scholarly production: the experience of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) - Brazil

The objective of this work is to present the experience of workshops that have been developed at the University of Sao Paulo by the Integrated Library System in partnership with Research Commission. The poster presents the main results of workshops that were made in 2011, in two knowledge areas: life science and engineering, about science publication processes, and directed to graduates, pos-doctorates, researchers, professors and library staff. The realization of workshops made possible identifies gaps in different aspects of scholarly communication such as research planning, search information strategy, information organization, submission process, identification of journals with high impact, and so on, areas where professors and librarians can help. Besides, workshops reveal that the majority of participants believe in its importance. Despite the ubiquity of digital technology that transversely impacts all academic activities, it is imperative to promote efforts to find a convergence between information and media literacy in higher education and university research activities. This is particularly important when we talk about how science is produced, communicated and preserved for future use. In this scenario, libraries and librarians assume a new, more active and committed role.

Informe sobre la 63a IFLA Conference (Copenhaguen, setembre de 1997)

La conferència anual de l'IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) -enguany la 63a- va tenir lloc a Copenhaguen, Dinamarca, entre el 30 d'agost i el 6 de setembre de 1997. Els congressos de l'IFLA tenen un contingut professional que abraça tots els àmbits de la biblioteconomia. Durant la setmana que dura el congrés les diverses seccions, taules rodones i altres grups en què s'organitza l'entitat mantenen reunions tancades en les quals es revisen els objectius del grup i els treballs duts a terme durant l'any, es planifiquen nous projectes i es preparen les properes reunions. Així mateix, cada grup organitza sessions obertes i seminaris en els quals es presenten treballs i es debaten qüestions professionals.
