A questão social na França contemporânea: uma experiência de pesquisa

A França passou por conflitos urbanos em seus bairros populares. Incidentes com a polícia marcados pela morte de um morador, geralmente jovem ou adolescente, são seguidos por manifestações violentas: quebra-quebras, incêndios de carros e/ou estabelecimentos públicos e privados, enfrentamentos com a polícia. Nos conflitos da "banlieue" francesa podem ser percebidos elementos comuns a eventos ingleses e/ou americanos de outras décadas.OBJETIVO: consiste em identificar a percepção e as representações de moradores sobre suas condições de vida e saúde na França.MÉTODO: pesquisa qualitativa realizada em Les Aubiers, bairro popular de Bordeaux, nos anos de 2002 e 2005. A população de moradores desse bairro e é composta principalmente por imigrantes ou fanceses de origem estrangeira, provenientes de diferentes locais: África do Norte, África Sub-Sahariana, Turquia, Portugal , Ilha de Reunião. Os indicadores sociais e econômicos apresentam níveis significativamente mais baixos do que os de outros bairros de Bordeaux, acompanhando as tendências encontradas nas outras "banlieues". Entre esses indicadores, a taxa de desemprego, principalmente entre jovens, é alarmante (40 por cento).RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: as políticas sociais deveriam ser mais voltadas para os indivíduos do que para o território, pois este só poderá ser transformado pelos primeiros e não o contrário. Um bairro e uma população estigmatizados, estão contemplados por uma ampla política social. Ainda que passível de crítica, não se pode ignorar a existência de esforços sistematicos de integração, nem a existência de políticas sociais. Se elas são inadequadas, trata-se de ampliar o espaço de discusão para sua reforma. Trata-se de saber qual a disposição das sociedades contemporâneas, como um todo, para lutar contra as inequidades e segregações

Comparison of trends in method-specific suicide rates in Australia and England & Wales, 1968-97

Objective: To compare secular trends in method-specific suicide rates among young people in Australia and England & Wales between 1968 and 1997. Methods: Australian data were obtained from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and for England & Wales from the Office for National Statistics. Overall and method-specific suicide rates for 15-34 year old males and females were calculated using ICD codes E950-9 and E980-9 except E988.8. Results: In both settings, suicide rates have almost doubled in young males over the past 30 years (from 16.8 to 32.9 per 100,000 in Australia and from 10.1 to 19.0 in England & Wales). Overall rates have changed little in young females. In both sexes and in both settings there have been substantial increases in suicide by hanging (5-7 fold increase in Australia and four-fold increase in England & Wales). There have also been smaller increases in gassing in the 1980s and '90s. In females, the impact of these increases on overall rates has been offset by a decline in drug overdose, the most common method in females. Conclusions: Rates of male suicide have increased substantially in both settings in recent years, and hanging has become an increasingly common method of suicide. The similarity in observed trends in both settings supports the view that such changes may have common causes. Research should focus on understanding why hanging has increased in popularity and what measures may be taken to diminish it.

Morphological and morphometric appraisal of the spermatophore of the southern hermit crab Isocheles sawayai Forest and Saint Laurent, 1968 (Anomura: Diogenidae), with comments on gonopores in both sexes

The spermatophore morphology of the hermit crab Isocheles sawayai from Southwestern Atlantic (Brazil) is described. The spermatophores show similarities with those described for other members of the family Diogenidae, especially with the recently described Loxopagurus loxochelis. The spermatophore is composed of three major regions: a sperm filled head or ampulla, a columnar stalk and a foot or pedestal. The spermatophores show specific morphology in having a circular ampulla, and a constriction or neck between the ampulla (100 mu m) and the thin (27 mu m), long stalk (500 mu m). The stalk penetrates less than half way into the spermatophore head. Most spermatophores show one or the small posterior projections on the underside of the ampulla as being bigger than the other, making it asymmetrical. The size of the spermatophore is related to hermit crab size with direct relationships found between spermatophore ampulla width, total length, and peduncle length with shield length of the hermit crab. The morphological characteristics of the spermatophore of L sawayai. are species-specific distinguishing it from other members of the family, and are useful to infer further phylogenetic relationships. Postlepidapedon Zdzitowiecki, 1993 and Gibsonivermis n g (Digenea: Lepocreadiidae) from fishes of the southern Great Barrier Reef, Australia, and their relationship to Intusatrium Durio & Manter, 1968

The genus Intusatrium Durio & Manter, 1968 is redefined based on a re-examination of paratypes of the type-species, I. robustum Durio & Manter, 1968, and is considered monotypic with characteristic terminal genitalia: internal seminal vesicle elongate tubular, with rather thick wall, divided by slight change in wall thickness into longer proximal and shorter distal region; pars prostatica subcylindrical; ejaculatory duct relatively short, with wrinkled/wall. The genus Postlepidapedon Zdzitowiecki, 1993 is redefined and Intusatrium secundum Durio & Manter, 1968 is attributed to it as a new combination. Postlepidapedon secundum n. comb. is redescribed from a paratype and new material from Choerodon graphicus. P. spissum n. sp. from Choerodon venustus, C. cyanodus, C. fasciatus and C. schoenleinii is recognised on the basis of its thick-walled internal seminal vesicle. I! uberis n. sp. from Choerodon schoenleinii and C. venustus is distinguished by the shape and contents of the cirrus-sac with narrow, convoluted internal seminal vesicle, large vesicular pars prostatica and short, muscular ejaculatory duct. A new genus, Gibsonivermis, erected for Intusatrium berryi Gibson, 1987, is characterised by the elongate narrow cirrus-sac and a uroproct. G. berryi n. comb. is redescribed from Sillago ciliata, S. maculata and Sillago sp.

Os vértices marginais de vocações universais: as relações entre a França e o Brasil de 1945 a nossos dias

O artigo se propõe a analisar as relações entre o Brasil e a França desde o final da Segunda Guerra Mundial até o presente. Para isso, o autor divide a história da relação entre os dois países em três blocos assim denominados: 1) a parceria bloqueada (1945 - 64); 2) a negligência cordial (1963 - 95); e 3) a parceria possível (1990 - 2000).

A partir de um estudo de caso sobre a iniciativa da França de criação de uma União do Mediterrâneo, o artigo testa a hipótese de que de que os "grandes" Estados da União Europeia, embora concentrando importantes recursos de poder negocial, comprometem significativamente os seus objetivos negociais se sobre-estenderem esses poderes.
