Este artigo procura analisar as perspectivas da política externa e interna chinesa e o papel que será exercido pelo país nas próximas décadas. Há inicialmente uma análise histórica da evolução das instituições governamentais chinesas e de como o colonialismo europeu se manifestou na região. Ao final, busca-se entender o papel que essa potência em ascensão terá frente a globalização.

The measurement by serological means of the impact of the Hong Kong/68 influenza virus on a population

In order to obtain evidence on the size of the impact of the Hong Kong/68 variant of influenza A2 virus on the population of São Paulo, Brazil, serum samples taken in 1967 before this variant appeared and during successive years after it appeared were examined for their antibody content. Haemagglutination-inhibition tests performed on a total of 2726 serum samples from adults showed a sharp decrease in 1969 of the proportion of sera without antibody to the Hong Kong/68 variant and a corresponding mercase in the proportion with high titres. It was concluded that about three-quarters of the adult population became infected at some time after the variant appeared, the majority in the first year of prevalence.

Occurrence of influenza B/Hong Kong-Like strains in Brazil, during 2002

Through the influenza virus surveillance from January to October 2002, influenza B/Hong Kong-like strains circulating in the Southeast and Centre East regions of Brazil have been demonstrated. This strain is a variant from B/Victoria/02/88 whose since 1991 and until recently have been isolated relatively infrequently and have been limited to South-Eastern Asia. A total of 510 respiratory secretions were collected from patients 0 to 60 years of age, with acute respiratory illness, living in the Southeast and Centre East regions of Brazil, of which 86 (17.13%) were positive for influenza virus. Among them 12 (13.95%) were characterized as B/Hong Kong/330/2001; 3 (3.49%) as B/Hong Kong/1351/2002 a variant from B/Hong Kong/330/2001; 1 (1.16%) as B/Sichuan/379/99; 1 (1.16%) as B/Shizuoka/5/2001, until now. The percentages of cases notified during the surveillance period were 34.88%, 15.12%, 15.12%, 4.65%, 15.12%, 13.95%, in the age groups of 0-4, 5-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-30, 31-50, respectively. The highest proportion of isolates was observed among children younger than 4 years but serious morbidity and mortality has not been observed among people older than 65 years, although B influenza virus component for vaccination campaign 2002 was B/Sichuan/379/99 strain. This was probably due to the elderly protection acquired against B/Victoria/02/88. In addition, in influenza A/Panama/2007/99-like (H3N2) strains 22 (25.58%) were also detected, but influenza A(H1N1) has not been detected yet.

Identificación de constructos competitivos y estratégicos de las exportaciones de manzanas chilenas a los mercados asiáticos

En esta investigación se analiza la competitividad de las exportaciones de manzanas de la región del Maule, Chile, en los mercados asiáticos de China, Hong Kong, Taiwán e India. El objetivo fue identificar estrategias competitivas y determinar las variables de ventaja competitiva de mayor relevancia. Para determinar los constructos estratégicos se realizó un bootstrap junto con un análisis factorial de componentes principales (PCA). Los constructos encontrados indican que las estrategias competitivas del sector exportador está orientado en lograr economías de escalas y optimizar procesos productivos y comerciales, para lograr menores costos y competir eficientemente en los mercados asiáticos.

A reação de fixação do complemento na tipificação de vírus da gripe isolados no Rio de Janeiro

O autor estudou, pela reação de fixação do complemento, amostras de vírus da gripe isoladas no Rio de janeiro, durante a epidemia de 1973. Preparou imunesoros em hamsters pela inoculação do líquido alantóide de embriões de galinha infectados. o antígeno solúvel foi preparado com líquido obtido da mesma proveniência. As reações foram positivas, em grau variável, com as amostras clássicas PR8, FM1 e Ásia dos subtipos A0,A1 e A2 e as mais recentes A2/Hong Kong/68 e A2/England/72 e negativa com o anticorpo B/Mass/66. Para as duas variantes do subtipo A2, acima assinaladas e para as 7 amostras isoladas o comportamento foi praticamente o mesmo, não deixando de ser uma reação tipo específica se encararmos, também, as reações obtidas com as demais variantes do tipo A.

O Brasil pode repetir o milagre econômico?

This article analyze the necessary conditions for Brazilian income per capita to duplicate in a time span of fifteen years, as it happened in the 1970s. Growth accounting is used to identify the sources of growth of Asian countries (China, Hon Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan) and Brazil during periods where income per capita has doubled in the past. The main restriction for the Brazilian economy to get back the growth performance of the 1970s is the low rate of investment. To increase this rate requires a substantial increase of the domestic savings rate.
