Uso de artigos científicos em uma disciplina de Físico-Química

This paper describes the use of primary chemistry literature in a fifth-semester physical chemistry course for undergraduate chemistry students. The main goal is to expose students to the primary literature of physical chemistry, demonstrating how they can benefit from using it. The assignment addresses issues in chemical education such as scientific writing, relating lecture material to the real world, and conducting literature searches. The student evaluation of this assignment, consisting of two surveys and one focus group, showed its usefulness. The details of the evaluation instruments and their results are provided. Out of 45 students enrolled in the course, 30 (67%) students completed the assignment.

Montagem de uma disciplina experimental: contribuição para a química geral

The purpose of this paper is to present a classification criterion for general chemistry experiments departing from a survey of 35 years of the experimental general chemistry discipline at the Chemistry Institute - UNICAMP. It is shown that by considering the most remarkable characteristics of an experiment and classifying it under Conceptual, Fundamental, Methodological or Quantitative criterion, teachers could better develop the discipline plan and prevent a subject superposition. Taking into account the system Fe3+/SCN- , the article also exemplify how is possible to modify an experimental approach and to conceive other procedures with different didactic purposes.

A nova disciplina de sistemas econômicos comparados: uma proposta

The new discipline of comparative economic systems: a proposition. This article offers elements for a reorientation of the subject matter of the discipline " Comparative Economic Systems" with the impact of the fall of the Berlin’s wall. Thus, we argue that in the context of the modern democratic society the political choice between society models occurs in a narrower set of options. Thus the study of pure forms of socialism is of historical interest, but he is not relevant to this discipline since it must prioritize the debate around the choice of compatible alternative models within the rule of law. So the article offers a new program for this discipline, able to describe and to understand the diversity of systems between countries that had opted for mixing market economy.

Uma nova disciplina: o direito sanitário

A reivindicação da saúde como direito tem levado o Estado a assumir responsabilidades crescentes pela promoção, proteção e recuperação da saúde do povo. A atuação do Estado contemporâneo - de Direito - é orientada por normas jurídicas. O conhecimento das normas que regulam a ação estatal no campo da saúde é indispensável ao sanitarista, profissional designado pela sociedade para trabalhar especificamente pela elevação de seu nível de saúde. Nessa linha, foram analisadas experiências estrangeiras com o ensino do direito sanitário, juntamente com as recomendações dos organismos internacionais de saúde. Conclui-se que a implementação do ensino do direito sanitário, no Brasil, é urgente.

Fifth disease in children living in Belém, Brazil

Acute sera from two children suffering from an illness with an erythematous rash were positive for B 19 virus specific IgM antibody, as tested by a capture radioimmunoassay. The first patient, a two year old boy, presented with a cutaneous rash of six days duration, the second was a four year old girl, sister of the first patient, who was examined at the same time and had a three day history of cutaneous rash.

Comparison of feeding and defecation patterns between fifth-instar nymphs of Triatoma patagonica (Del Ponte, 1929) and Triatoma infestans (Klug, 1934) under laboratory conditions

Among the vectors of Chagas disease, Triatoma patagonica is a species in the process of adaptation to the human environment. However, its vector competence is not well known. This study had the aim of evaluating and comparing feeding and defecation patterns among fifth-instar nymphs of Triatoma patagonica and Triatoma infestans that were fed ad libitum. The results showed that nymphs of Triatoma patagonica had a feeding pattern similar to that of Triatoma infestans. Sixty nine percent and 58% of nymphs of Triatoma patagonica and Triatoma infestans, respectively, produced their first defecation within five minutes after being fed. Triatoma patagonica defecated during feeding, with an average time until first defecation that was shorter than that of Triatoma infestans (3.4 and 6.2 min, respectively). The nymphs of Triatoma patagonica were capable of defecating during or immediately after feeding.

Valor preditivo da angina em detectar doença coronariana em pacientes com estenose aórtica grave a partir da quinta década de vida

OBJETIVO: O objetivo deste estudo é verificar o valor de previsão da angina de peito no diagnóstico da DAC em pacientes portadores de EA, a partir da quinta década de vida. MÉTODOS: A população estudada foi constituída por 186 pacientes consecutivos com EA e idade e" 50 anos, referidos para cirurgia de troca valvar aórtica entre junho de 1989 e setembro de 2004. Cinecoronariografia de rotina foi realizada em todos os pacientes. Cento e um eram homens (54,3%) e 85, mulheres (45,7%), com idade de 66±8 anos. Angina estava presente em 124 pacientes (66,7%). O gradiente máximo transvalvar aórtico foi de 89,4±27,6 mmHg e a área valvar aórtica de 0,59±0,17 cm2. Calculamos a sensibilidade, a especificidade, o valor de previsão positivo e negativo e a razão de verossimilhança positiva da angina na predição da presença de DAC. RESULTADOS: DAC estava presente em 93 pacientes (50%). Dos 124 pacientes com angina, 68 (54,8%) apresentavam DAC; enquanto dos 62 sem angina, 25 apresentavam DAC (40,3%). Portanto, a sensibilidade da angina para DAC foi de 73,1%, a especificidade de 39,7%, valor preditivo positivo de 54,8%, valor preditivo negativo de 59,6% e razão de verossimilhança positiva de 1,6. CONCLUSÃO: A angina de peito não é bom preditor da presença de DAC em pacientes com EA a partir da quinta década de vida.

Transposição corrigida das grandes artérias: apresentação clínica tardia, na quinta década de vida

A transposição corrigida das grandes artérias, cardiopatia congênita rara, está relacionada a maior incidência de complicações cardiológicas. Reportamos um caso no qual a apresentação clínica da doença ocorreu apenas na quinta década de vida, com insuficiência tricúspide, ocasião em que a paciente foi submetida a troca valvar.

Fifth contribution to the knowledge of the genus Archytas Jaennicke, 1867 (Diptera, Tachinidae)

No presente trabalho são redescritas as seguintes espécies do gênero Archytas Jaennicke, 1867: Archytas lateralis Macquart, 1842, Archytas metallicus Desvoidy, 1830; Archytas aterrimus Desvoidy, 1830 e Archytas willistoni Curran, 1925. São ainda descritas duas espécies novas, provenientes do Estado do Pará, Brasil: Archytas pearsoni e A. araujoi. O material estudado pertence à coleção do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro.

Ensino da disciplina administração em enfermagem: em busca de um novo paradigma

Neste trabalho as autoras apresentam, um relato da experiência sobre o ensino da disciplina Administração em Enfermagem, da Escola de Enfermagem da USP, descrevendo como esta vem sendo inserida no novo currículo do curso de graduação em Enfermagem.
