Studies of the cymothoid isopod Livoneca symmetricaVan Name, 1925, showed that this species has characters that preclude its inclusion in LivonecaLeach, 1818, or in any other known genus. The species is redescribed on the basis of male and female specimens from the mouth cavities of Amazonian piranhas (Serrasalmus spilopleura(Kner) and S. elongatusKner) and Vanameagen. nov. is proposed for it. The new genus is defined as having: a cephalon that is not immersed in pereonite 1; mandibles that are "foot-shaped" and without incisors, pereopods that are long and unequal in size and shape; a pleon that is not immersed in the pereon; and a pleotelson that is inflated anteriorly and medially.

Um novo gênero e espécie de Reduviinae (Hemiptera-Heteroptera, Reduviidae) do Estado do Amazonas, Brasil, são descritos. Uma chave taxonômica para os gêneros Americanos de Reduviinae é fornecida.

A new genus, Oswaldotrema gen. nov. is proposed. Oswaldotrema nacinovici sp. nov. is descibed from Numenius phaeopus Latham, 1790. Differentiation from the other related genera, namely Philophthalmus, Pygorchis, Proctobium, Parorchis, Echinostephila, Cloacitrema, Pittacium, Ophthalmotrema, Skrjabinovermis and Paratrema, was based on morphological characters, mainly on those referring to the body surface, body shape, head, esophagus, pharynx, acetabulum, vitellaria, vitelline reservoir and seminal vesicle.

The family Nematotaeniidae, tapeworms commonly found in the small intestines of amphibians and reptiles, includes 27 recognised species distributed among four genera: Bitegmen Jones, Cylindrotaenia Jewell, Distoichometra Dickey and Nematotaenia Lühe. The taxonomy of these cestodes is poorly defined, due in part to the difficulties of observing many anatomical traits. This study presents and describes a new genus and species of nematotaeniid parasite found in cane toads (Rhinella marina) from eastern Brazilian Amazonia. The cestodes were collected during the necropsy of 20 hosts captured in the urban area of Belém, Pará. The specimens were fixed and processed for light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction. Samples were also collected for molecular analyses. The specimens presented a cylindrical body, two testes and paruterine organs. However, they could not be allocated to any of the four existing nematotaeniid genera due to the presence of two each of dorsal compact medullary testes, cirri, cirrus pouches, genital pores, ovaries and vitelline glands per mature segment. Lanfrediella amphicirrus gen. nov. sp. nov. is the first nematotaeniid studied using Historesin analysis, SEM and 3D reconstruction, and it is the second taxon for which molecular data have been deposited in GenBank.

A new genus of Tabanidae mimetic of flies is described: Muscotabanus new genus, Muscotabanus rafaeli new species, based on 12 females collected in the state of Amazonas, Brazil. It is presented a discussion for separating the new genus from Diachlorini species which resemblance with sarcophagids flies. It is characterised by striped thorax, banded abdomen, long slender palpus subequal antenna length, labella predominantly membranous, except for a narrow sclerotised plate, basicosta bare, wing hyaline and stigma brown.

Dois gêneros novos são descritos: Chilerhamphomyia gen. nov., baseado em Rhamphomyia carenifera Bezzi, 1909 (espécie-tipo) do Chile, Valdivia, e Bolrhamphomyia gen. nov., baseado em R. tympanica Bezzi, 1909 (espécie-tipo) da Bolívia, Mapiri. Cinco espécies neotropicais são redescritas e uma nova sinonímia é proposta: Porphyrochroa argyrina (Bezzi, 1909), lectótipo (aqui designado); P. galactodes (Bezzi, 1909); P. micrargyra (Bezzi, 1909), lectótipo (aqui designado), sinônimo sênior de P. monstrosa (Bezzi, 1909) syn. nov.; P. penicillata (Bezzi, 1909) e P. perpulchra (Bezzi, 1909), lectótipo (aqui designado).

Melostelis gen. nov., espécies novas e notas complementares sobre Anthidiini (Hymenoptera, Apidae). Melostelis gen. nov. é proposto para um novo Anthidiini cleptoparasita. São descritas e ilustradas duas espécies novas: Melostelis amazonensis sp. nov. de Manaus, Amazonas e Larocanthidium chacoense sp. nov. de Porto Murtinho, Mato Grosso do Sul. São dados a conhecer os machos de Epanthidium bolivianum Urban, 1995 e Epanthidium araranguense Urban, 2006 e, registrados pela primeira vez no Brasil, na sub-região do chaco, Ketianthidium zanolae Urban, 2000 e Epanthidium bolivianum.

Novos táxons descritos: Oncideres sparsemaculatus sp. nov., da Guatemala (San Marcos); Oncideres estebani sp. nov. da Costa Rica (Alajuela); Neohylus alexandrei sp. nov. e Hypsioma bahiensis, sp. nov. do Brasil (Rondônia e Bahia, respectivamente); Paraplerodia gen. nov., espécie-tipo, P. acarinata sp. nov., Hesycha biguttata sp. nov., Trestonia lateapicata sp. nov. e Pseudobeta transversa sp. nov. da Bolívia (Santa Cruz).

The family Trypetheliaceae is redefined including a key to the genera. Exiliseptum gen. nov. is described. Keys to the species are provided for the six genera which occur in Amazonian Brazil along with brief comments on the three other genera. Thirty-five species are included, tem new species described and ten new combinations proposed.

É caracterizado um novo gênero neotropical de simulídeo, com base nas espécies previamente incluídas no "Grupo Siolii", do gênero Psaroniocompsa. Chaves de identificação para imaturos são apresentadas. O gênero Shelleyellum fica constituído pelas espécies: S. damascenoi (Py-Daniel,1988), S. guaporense (Py-Daniel, 1989), S. lourencoi (Py-Daniel, 1988), S. siolli (Py-Daniel, 1988), S. tergospinosum (Hamada, 2000). O gênero é caracterizado, principalmente, pela de carena longitudinal nos distímeros dos machos e a presença de tubérculos tegumentares nas larvas.

The genus Parandra is reviewed and four genera are recognized: Parandra Latreille, 1804, Neandra Lameere, 1912, stat. nov., Archandra Lameere, 1912, stat. nov. and Acutandra gen. nov. The genus Parandra is subdivided in two subgenera: Parandra (Parandra) s. str. and Parandra (Birandra) subgen. nov. The geographical distribution of P. (P.) laevis Latreille, 1804 is commented and the probable synonymy between P. cubaecola Chevrolat, 1862 and P. (P.) cribrata Thomson, 1861 is discussed. New species described: P. (P.) tavakiliani from Puerto Rico and P. (Birandra) mariahelenae from Jamaica. New combinations: Neandra brunnea (Fabricius, 1798), Neandra marginicollis (Schaeffer, 1929), Archandra caspia (Ménétriès, 1832), Acutandra punctatissima (Thomson, 1861), A. degeeri (Thomson, 1867), A. murrayi (Lameere, 1912), A. araucana (Bosq, 1951), A. ubitiara (Santos-Silva & Martins, 2000), all from Parandra. New species described from Brazil: Curuapira tuberosa (Espírito Santo); Stereomerus maculatus (Bahia); Gyrpanetes oryba (Espírito Santo); Desmiphora (D.) santossilvai (Pará); Desmiphora (D.) uniformis (Bahia). Icublabia gen. nov., type-species, I. multispinosa sp. nov. from Ecuador (Napo) are described. Curuapira exotica Martins & Galileo, 1998, originally described from Venezuela, is recorded from Brazil (Amazonas, Rondônia and Mato Grosso).

Iguaira gen. nov., type species, I. poranga, sp. nov., based on one nymph from the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, are proposed. The new taxon is distinguished by the labrum with multiple, unorganized setae dorsally; hypopharynx with three-lobed lingua; cleft mandibular incisors; labium with internally curved paraglossae; labial palps with second segment with strong, apically rounded distomedial process and third segment with truncate medial and apical margins; elongate tarsal claws with minute denticles; and absence of scales and scale bases.
