L'APPORT DE LA SOCIOLOGIE PRAGMATIQUE FRANÇAISE AUX ÉTUDES CRITIQUES EN MANAGEMENT

La sociologie pragmatique française (SP), inspirée des travaux de Luc Boltanski et Laurent Thévenot, est de plus en plus utilisée par les études organisationnelles en management. Pourtant, la dimension critique de cette approche n'a pas encore été intégrée au profit de la connaissance en management et organisations (MOK). Dans cet article, nous explicitons l'apport que cette sociologie peut représenter pour les études critiques en management (CMS). En tant que science de la science des acteurs, nous suggérons que la SP est fertile pour développer une approche de performativité critique. En particulier, nous démontrons que l'approche permet de mettre en lumière les nouvelles formes de domination plus complexes s'exerçant dans les organisations contemporaines. En utilisant des études empiriques d'organisations mobilisant la SP, nous montrons comment les concepts de compromis et d'épreuve développés par cette approche présentent un outillage permettant de renouveler la critique des organisations au profit de la MOK.

The interception process in tropical rain forests: a literature review and critique (*).

A review of the literature on measurements of rain water interception processes by forests is made. Information on Africa, Central and South America, and Asia is given. A general analysis is made and the need to further the measurements under field conditions is stressed.

Bayle historien et critique du matérialisme dans le dictionnaire

Bayle affirme que les atomistes auraient dû rester fidèles à une curieuse thèse attribuée au fondateur de l'atomisme, Démocrite, à savoir que les atomes ont une âme. En effet, montre Bayle par plusieurs arguments, il est impossible que la pensée émerge de la matière. Dès lors, l'atomisme doit se donner d'emblée la pensée comme présente dans chacun des atomes. Dans la même ligne, Bayle montre que, plus généralement, tout matérialisme conséquent doit être un panpsiquismo : toutes les parties de la matière doivent penser, et penser toujours. Mais cela conduit à des conséquences difficilement acceptables, telles que des cadavres pensants. De plus, le conseil qu'il donne aux matérialistes (suivre Démocrite) est une mesure qu'il croit en réalité inapplicable, puisque selon Bayle la pensée est incompatible avec l'étendue, leurs propriétés étant opposées et chaque substance n'ayant qu'un attribut. Ce que Bayle entend donc faire, dans cette fantaisie historique sur Démocrite, est de réduire le matérialisme à une position absurde.

Gene trio signatures as molecular markers to predict response to doxorubicin cyclophosphamide neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancerpatients

In breast cancer patients submitted to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (4 cycles of doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, AC), expression of groups of three genes (gene trio signatures) could distinguish responsive from non-responsive tumors, as demonstrated by cDNA microarray profiling in a previous study by our group. In the current study, we determined if the expression of the same genes would retain the predictive strength, when analyzed by a more accessible technique (real-time RT-PCR). We evaluated 28 samples already analyzed by cDNA microarray, as a technical validation procedure, and 14 tumors, as an independent biological validation set. All patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (4 AC). Among five trio combinations previously identified, defined by nine genes individually investigated (BZRP, CLPTM1,MTSS1, NOTCH1, NUP210, PRSS11, RPL37A, SMYD2, and XLHSRF-1), the most accurate were established by RPL37A, XLHSRF-1based trios, with NOTCH1 or NUP210. Both trios correctly separated 86% of tumors (87% sensitivity and 80% specificity for predicting response), according to their response to chemotherapy (82% in a leave-one-out cross-validation method). Using the pre-established features obtained by linear discriminant analysis, 71% samples from the biological validation set were also correctly classified by both trios (72% sensitivity; 66% specificity). Furthermore, we explored other gene combinations to achieve a higher accuracy in the technical validation group (as a training set). A new trio, MTSS1, RPL37 and SMYD2, correctly classified 93% of samples from the technical validation group (95% sensitivity and 80% specificity; 86% accuracy by the cross-validation method) and 79% from the biological validation group (72% sensitivity and 100% specificity). Therefore, the combined expression of MTSS1, RPL37 and SMYD2, as evaluated by real-time RT-PCR, is a potential candidate to predict response to neoadjuvant doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide in breast cancer patients.

Dynamic nature of human rights: Rawls's critique of moral universalism

Human rights do not represent an absolute truth. Otherwise, they would represent ideology, which is contradictory to the basic idea of human rights itself. Consequently, there is a need for redefinition of the main presuppositions of modern conception of human rights represented in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This paper argues that Rawls's conception of human rights is significant for the refiguration of human rights. It represents the path towards postmodern idea of human rights and the recognition of difference.

Hare's preference utilitarianism: an overview and critique

My purpose in this paper is to summarize some aspects of utilitarianism and to provide a general overview of Hare's preference utilitarianism, followed by a critique of Hare's preference theory.
