Description and life history of a new cecidogenous species of Palaeomystella Fletcher (Lepidoptera, Momphidae) from Brazil

ABSTRACTMale, female, pupa, and last-instar larva of Palaeomystella beckeri (Moreira and Basilio) a new species from the Atlantic forest, southern Brazil, are described and illustrated with the aid of optical and scanning electron microscopy. Larvae induce galls on apical branches of Tibouchina trichopoda (DC.) Baill. (Melastomataceae) within which pupation occurs. Gall description and preliminary data on life history are also provided.

A morphological reappraisal of the immature stages and life history of Elachista synethes Meyrick (Lepidoptera, Elachistidae), an Australian leaf miner alien to Chile

ABSTRACT Elachista synethes was recently recognized as an alien species in northern Chile, where its larvae mine the rescue grass Bromus catharticus (Poaceae). In order to provide the necessary information to allow field detection of E. synethes during early ontogeny, we conducted a morphological reappraisal of the immature stages of this leaf-miner moth, based on light and scanning electron microscopy, including the first descriptions of the egg and the first-instar larva. This is the first report of the existence of an apodal early larva for a species of Elachista Treitschke. The legs and prolegs are absent in the first two instars, but are well developed in the last two. Additional observations on the life history are also provided, including a description of the mine.

Organizações multilaterais, estado e políticas de educação infantil: history repeats

As políticas brasileiras de educação infantil (EI) nas últimas quatro décadas apresentam-se como resposta a várias tensões. Nos anos 70, o despertar dos novos movimentos sociais trouxe o tema para a agenda de suas reivindicações. Nos anos 80, pressões em diferentes sentidos provocaram, de um lado, a expansão da EI seguindo, de modo geral, um modelo "a baixo custo" e, de outro, a consciência social da EI como um direito das crianças pequenas à educação e um direito de assistência aos filhos de pais e mães trabalhadores (Constituição de 1988). O artigo descreve e analisa as tensões presentes, e suas conseqüências, em três momentos da história da EI brasileira contemporânea: a fase de expansão durante o governo militar; as inovações trazidas pela Constituição de 1988; o impacto das reformas educacionais contemporâneas sob a égide do "Consenso de Washington". A descrição e análise desses momentos serão efetuadas no contexto dos modelos propugnados pelas organizações multilaterais.

The pre-history of cryoscopy: what was done before raoult?

Cryoscopy is considered one of the foundations of the modern theory of solutions and of physical chemistry. This paper shows in order the first regularities pointed out by several scientists on the subject, in the first chapter of its birth as a scientific discipline. The study is focused on the identification of the different steps that helped, first qualitatively and then quantitatively, to adjust the different classes of possible solutions, including those that formed hydrates, to a basic formulation that the French scientist François-Marie Raoult would later generalize in the law that bears his name.
