Visibilidad internacional de la producción científica iberoamericana en biblioteconomía y documentación (1991-2000)

Se analiza la producción iberoamericana en biblioteconomía y documentación existente en el Social Science Citation Index para el periodo 1991-2000. Se analiza la producción por países, instituciones, revistas y autores. También se estudia la citación de autores y revistas. Por último, se realiza un análisis de cocitación de revistas (ACR) y se representa mediante un mapa bidimensional.

O pessegueiro em pomar compacto. IX. dez anos de produção de cultivares sob poda drástica bienal

O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar o desenvolvimento vegetativo e reprodutivo de quatorze cultivares e seleções de pessegueiro (Prunus persica L. Batsch) e nectarineira cultivadas no espaçamento de 4 x 1,5 m (1.667 pl/ha), sob poda drástica bienal da copa. Pelos resultados obtidos no decênio 1986-95, verificou-se que as cultivares e seleções mais produtivas foram (número e kg de frutos/planta respectivamente): Aurora-1 (112; 9,2), IAC 680-178 (94; 8,5), IAC 680-13 (95; 8,1), Talismã (99; 8,1), Régis (98; 7,8) e Flordaprince (91; 7,7). No ano agrícola de 1995, as variáveis analisadas, área da secção transversal do tronco, área da folha, número e massa dos frutos por cm² de tronco, apresentaram diferenciação estatística entre cultivares e seleções. A poda drástica bienal da copa ocasionou, tanto em material precoce quanto mediano, diminuição de produção a cada duas safras, não chegando, porém, a prejudicar a produtividade média do pomar.

The brain decade in debate: VII. Neurobiology of sleep and dreams

This article is a transcription of an electronic symposium held on February 5, 2001 by the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC) during which eight specialists involved in clinical and experimental research on sleep and dreaming exposed their personal experience and theoretical points of view concerning these highly polemic subjects. Unlike most other bodily functions, sleep and dreaming cannot, so far, be defined in terms of definitive functions that play an ascribable role in maintaining the organism as a whole. Such difficulties appear quite clearly all along the discussions. In this symposium, concepts on sleep function range from a protective behavior to an essential function for maturation of the nervous system. Kleitman's hypothesis [Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease (1974), 159: 293-294] was discussed, according to which the basal state is not the wakeful state but sleep, from which we awake to eat, to protect ourselves, to procreate, etc. Dreams, on the other hand, were widely discussed, being considered either as an important step in consolidation of learning or simply the conscious identification of functional patterns derived from the configuration of released or revoked memorized information.
