Courses with practical and theoretical classes are potentially didactic structures for the development of motor and complex cognitive skills when operated in an integrated manner. When worked aligned, theory and practice enable a clearer view of the issue, opening scope for introducing concepts from other disciplines and for the development of lab skills. This paper presents a methodology for biochemistry labwork that promotes the teaching of the buffering systems contents together with to the development of scientific research practice concepts in an interdisciplinary perspective that integrates theory and practice.

This paper describes a simple experiment employing the essential oil of limes which can be applied in undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory classes for the teaching of thin layer chromatography (TLC). The experiment consists in submit lime peel oil to TLC separation employing hexane and dichloromethane as the eluents and five different systems for visualization of the chromatogram. In one experiment it is possible to teach the different variables of the TLC technique. This experiment may also be performed following vapor distillation and liquid-liquid extraction technique in experimental classes.

A software based in the Monte Carlo method have been developed aiming the teaching of important cases of mechanisms found in luminescence and in excited states decay kinetics, including: multiple decays, consecutive decays and coupled systems decays. The Monte Carlo Method allows the student to easily simulate and visualize the luminescence mechanisms, focusing on the probabilities of the related steps. The software CINESTEX was written for FreeBASIC compiler; it assumes first-order kinetics and any number of excited states, where the pathways are allowed with probabilities assigned by the user.

Hartree's original ideas are described. Its connection with electrostatics can be explored in order to decrease the gap between teaching of Physics and Chemistry. As a consequence of its simplicity and connection with electrostatics, it is suggested that Hartree's method should be presented before the Hartree-Fock method. Besides, since the fundamental concepts of indistinguishibility of electrons along with the antissimetry of the wave function are missing in the Hartree's product, the method itself can be used to introduce these concepts. Despite the fact that these features are not included in the trial wavefunction, important qualitatively correct results can be obtained.

An analysis of the activities that contributed to the birth of Green Chemistry (GC) about twenty years ago has shown that it emerged in response to the problems of pollution and wastes felt by the Chemical Industry. This close connection between GC and the Chemical Industry is similar to that found earlier between Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry before they separated. It was also found that since its very beginning the Chemical Industry has occasionally practiced GC. Broad implications of these findings to the teaching of GC are discussed.

A software based in the Monte Carlo method has been developed aiming the teaching of the Perrin´s model for static luminescence quenching. This software allows the student to easily simulate the luminescence decays of emissive molecules in the presence of quenching ones. The software named PERRIN was written for FreeBASIC compiler and it can be applied for systems where the molecules remain static during its excited state lifetime. The good agreement found between the simulations and the expected theoretical results shows that it can be used for the luminescence and excited states decay kinetic teaching.

This paper describes the main activities regarding scientific dissemination in the field of Chemistry at Casa da Descoberta (CD) - a Scientific Dissemination Center of the Fluminense Federal University. It presents a brief history of CD and discusses the difficulties concerning the dissemination of Chemistry at Scientific Dissemination Centers. This work also approaches some activities developed throughout the years: experiments performed in relation to the visitors' daily life, training of monitors to act as mediators in the non-formal teaching of Chemistry, production of dissemination materials, elaboration of books, as well as activities that relate formal to non-formal education.

This paper presents an IR and Raman experiment executed during the teaching of the course "Chemical Bonds" for undergraduated students of Science and Technology and Chemistry at the Federal University of ABC, in order to facilitate and encourage the teaching and learning of group theory. Some key aspects of this theory are also outlined. We believe that student learning was more significant with the introduction of this experiment, because there was an increase in the discussions level and in the performance during evaluations. This work also proposes a multidisciplinary approach to include the use of quantum chemistry tools.

A methodology is proposed for explaining one of the central questions in the teaching of general chemistry courses to freshman students: why do chemical transformations occur? The answer to this question is based on thermodynamics but we propose arriving at an answer in a more intuitive way by using computational tools in a bid to increase the motivation of students for learning chemistry.

Taking into account the requirements for the teaching of chemistry, several visualization resources (software, videos, animations, molecular models, among others) are available. These visual aids are used in order to enhance the understanding of chemical phenomena in the classroom. However, many teachers make scant use of these resources, limiting macroscopic understanding of chemical science. Thus, this article discusses chemistry teachers' views on several aspects such as using visual aids in teaching chemistry, a resource most widely used in classes on atomic models, isomerism and spatial geometry.

This work describes a simple and inexpensive flow injection analysis system in which gravity force provides fluid propulsion while needles for insulin administration or metallic wires act as electrodes for amperometric detection. The proposed system was able to demonstrate the influence of several operational parameters on the transient signals. Moreover, this system was successfully used to evaluate both the stoichiometry of Cu2+-EDTA complex and the effect of pH on the kinetics of the reaction between ferricyanide and ascorbic acid. Therefore, the proposed system can be regarded as an efficient and accessible didactic tool for the teaching of FIA principles.

The authors present a method of teaching of suture techniques being used instrumental surgical and bovine tongue used in the evaluation of the graduation students' learning. The evaluation of the technique, used since January 2000, considering students' motivation, learning curve, practical applicability, quality of the biological material used and similarity to the human tegument. The acceptance for the students was very good and the bovine tongue was shown material of easy acquisition and extremely useful in the teaching of suture techniques. The presented method is simple, easily reproductible and interesting. The bovine tongue is similar to the skin and the subcutaneous tissue, providing more enlightening and stimulants practical lessons.

It is remarkable the reduction in the number of medical students choosing general surgery as a career. In this context, new possibilities in the field of surgical education should be developed to combat this lack of interest. In this study, a program of surgical training based on learning with models of low-fidelity bench is designed as a complementary alternative to the various methodologies in the teaching of basic surgical skills during medical education, and to develop personal interests in career choice.

The present contribute aims to reconstruct, using the methodology of intellectual history, the broad spectrum of metaphysical doctrines that Kant could know during the years of the formation of his philosophy. The first part deals with the teaching of metaphysics in Königsberg from 1703 to 1770. The second part examines the main characteristics of the metaphysics in the various handbooks, which were taught at the Albertina, in order to have an exhaustive overview of all metaphysical positions.
