Morphological aspects of the genitalia of seven species of Heilus Kuschel (Coleoptera, Curculionidae)

Morphological aspects of the male and female genitalia and their associated sclerites, abdominal tergite and sternite 8, are described, illustrated and discussed for seven species of Heilus Kuschel 1955 of tribe and subtribe Hylobiini-Hylobiina. The seven species are H. faldermanni (Boheman, 1836); H. fasciculatus (Boheman, 1843); H. freyreissi (Boheman, 1836); H. myops (Boheman, 1836); H. pupillatus (Olivier, 1790); H. rufescens (Boheman, 1836) and H. tuberculosus (Perty, 1832).

Atmospheric chemistry in Brazil from 1790 to 1853. Scarcely any mention is made today of investigations carried out in Brazil during the period above on the science of the atmosphere. Yet the study of these cases reveals much about the milieu of a few devoted men who laboured to pursue a scientific career. That such an arcane topic has been the concern of investigators at such an early date may come as a surprise to many. The subject was an oddity as a field of study anywhere at the time, and its history deserves the attention of present-day chemists.

A caracterização da lógica pela força assertórica em frege. Resposta a Marco Ruffino

Segundo a caracterização padrão da lógica nos escritos fregeanos, a palavra "verdadeiro" indica a essência da lógica, assim como a palavra "bom" indica a essência da ética e a palavra "belo" a essência da estética. Num escrito póstumo de 1915, porém, Frege afirma que é a força assertórica, e não a palavra "verdadeiro", que indica a essência da lógica. Prima facie, esta correção está em conflito com a crítica fregeana à concepção psicologista da lógica. Pois, segundo esta crítica, a lógica não é a ciência das leis "do ser tomado como verdadeiro", mas a ciência das leis "do ser verdadeiro", ao passo que a força assertórica expressa o ser tomado como verdadeiro. Em escritos anteriores, tentei resolver este conflito por uma reconstrução da concepção fregeana da verdade baseada na tese fregeana de que verdade é expressa na linguagem natural pela "forma da sentença assertórica". A meta do presente trabalho é defender esta interpretação contra as objeções recentemente feitas por Marco Ruffino.

Relationship between weight, age and hatching success and the concentration of heavy metals in nestling blue macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus Latham, 1790) in the Pantanal,Mato Grosso do Sul

Abstract: The concentration of heavy metals (Cr, Fe, Al, As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Mo, Ni, Se and Zn) was evaluated in the blood of nestling blue macaws (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) captured in the Pantanal, Mato Grosso do Sul (n=26) in 2012; this was based on the hypothesis that these birds exhibit levels of these heavy metals in their organism and that these interfere in hatching success, weight and age of the chicks. Blood samples were digested with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid and the quantification of metals was performed by ICP-OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy and Inductively Coupled Plasma). Blood samples of nestlings showed concentrations of Cr (0.10μg/g) Fe (3.06μg/g) Al (3.46μg/g), Cd (0.25μg/g) Cu (0.74μg/g), Mo (0.33μg/g), Ni (0.61μg/g), Se (0.98μg/g), and Zn (2.08μg/g). The levels of heavy metals found were not associated with weight, age and hatching success of the chicks.
