Multicultural Literacy in Education: Meeting the Objectives of the Florida Sunshine State Standards

The purpose of this paper is to show how incorporating multicultural literacy in education can meet the Florida Sunshine State Standards to promote a more equitable approach to classroom discourse and a qualitative teacher-facilitated learning environment for students who reflect a multicultural and global community.

The Relationship Between Online and In Person GED Preparatory Courses

Courses are taken in order to prepare for the General Educational Development Test. These courses are offered traditionally and virtually. The actual test must be taken in-person regardless of whether an individual took preparatory courses virtually or traditionally. This paper will explore the benefits and obstacles that each method of delivering instruction has.

Planning of schools as communities

The purpose of this research paper was to conduct a literature review to explore both the physical and historical aspects of schools and their communities in order to ascertain the nature of the disconnect that exists today between schools and communities. This paper reviews the purpose of the public school, from the origin of the one-room schoolhouse to today's urban schools; the impact of immigration, segregation, technology and industrialization on the public school and the forces behind public school reform. The reform processes and the programs developed to stimulate the public school including the transformation of the learning environment in the communities they serve was discussed. The research indicates that the return to a community school with small learning environments that involves communities and residents in the planning of schools as communities, is the most promising form of public school reform.

A Historical Overview of the Challenges for African Americans K12 through College Education in America

The early American education system developed around the segregation of White and African American students. These differences in learning environment have led to inferior education for African Americans and can be linked to challenges still facing minorities in the current American education system.
