The General Differential Operators Generated by a Quasi-Differential Expressions with their Interior Singular Points

The general ordinary quasi-differential expression M of n-th order with complex coefficients and its formal adjoint M + are considered over a regoin (a, b) on the real line, −∞ ≤ a < b ≤ ∞, on which the operator may have a finite number of singular points. By considering M over various subintervals on which singularities occur only at the ends, restrictions of the maximal operator generated by M in L2|w (a, b) which are regularly solvable with respect to the minimal operators T0 (M ) and T0 (M + ). In addition to direct sums of regularly solvable operators defined on the separate subintervals, there are other regularly solvable restrications of the maximal operator which involve linking the various intervals together in interface like style.

The Divisibility Modulo 4 of Kloosterman Sums over Finite Fields of Characteristic 3

Recently Garashuk and Lisonek evaluated Kloosterman sums K (a) modulo 4 over a finite field F3m in the case of even K (a). They posed it as an open problem to characterize elements a in F3m for which K (a) ≡ 1 (mod4) and K (a) ≡ 3 (mod4). In this paper, we will give an answer to this problem. The result allows us to count the number of elements a in F3m belonging to each of these two classes.

Subdifferentials of Performance Functions and Calculus of Coderivatives of Set-Valued Mappings

The paper contains calculus rules for coderivatives of compositions, sums and intersections of set-valued mappings. The types of coderivatives considered correspond to Dini-Hadamard and limiting Dini-Hadamard subdifferentials in Gˆateaux differentiable spaces, Fréchet and limiting Fréchet subdifferentials in Asplund spaces and approximate subdifferentials in arbitrary Banach spaces. The key element of the unified approach to obtaining various calculus rules for various types of derivatives presented in the paper are simple formulas for subdifferentials of marginal, or performance functions.

Orthogonal Resolutions and Latin Squares

Resolutions which are orthogonal to at least one other resolution (RORs) and sets of m mutually orthogonal resolutions (m-MORs) of 2-(v, k, λ) designs are considered. A dependence of the number of nonisomorphic RORs and m-MORs of multiple designs on the number of inequivalent sets of v/k − 1 mutually orthogonal latin squares (MOLS) of size m is obtained. A Characterization of the Negative Binomial Distribution

Only a few characterizations have been obtained in literatute for the negative binomial distribution (see Johnson et al., Chap. 5, 1992). In this article a characterization of the negative binomial distribution related to random sums is obtained which is motivated by the geometric distribution characterization given by Khalil et al. (1991). An interpretation in terms of an unreliable system is given.
