Fuzzy Model of the Automated System of Module Knowledge Control

The author analyzes some peculiarities of information perception and the problems of tests evaluation. A fuzzy model of tests evaluation as means of increasing the effectiveness of knowledge control is suggested.

A Semantic-Oriented Architecture of a Functional Module for Personalized and Adaptive Access to the Knowledge in a Multimedia Digital Library

This article presents the principal results of the doctoral thesis “Semantic-oriented Architecture and Models for Personalized and Adaptive Access to the Knowledge in Multimedia Digital Library” by Desislava Ivanova Paneva-Marinova (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics), successfully defended before the Specialised Academic Council for Informatics and Mathematical Modelling on 27 October, 2008.

MINERVA – the Ministerial Network for Valorising Activities in Digitisation Towards an Agreed European Platform for Digitisation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage

MINERVA is a project funded by the European Commission IST Programme within the 5th Framework Programme. It created a network of EU Ministries and other agencies in charge of cultural policies and programmes, which is open to enlargement to new countries and new sectors of the civil society. The network discusses, correlates and harmonises the activities carried out in the field of digitisation of cultural and scientific heritage, aiming at creating a common European platform made up of agreed recommendations, guidelines, standards. The network acts also to foster collaboration between European Commission and Member States, to ensure awareness of European policies at national level, to exchange good practice, to coordinate national programmes in order to embed in national digitisation activities the technical results achieved by the network. Some main outcomes of the activities are presented.

Моделирование Многомерных Данных в Системе METAS BI-Platform

Представлено формальное описание многомерной модели данных, реализованной в программном комплексе METAS BI-Platform. В статью включено описание объектов многомерной модели (измерений и множеств измерений и т.д.), их свойств и организации, а также операций, выполняемых над ними. Описаны методы агрегации многомерных данных, позволяющие эффективно агрегировать массивы числовых показателей. Программный комплекс METAS BI-Platform предназначен для многомерного анализа данных, получаемых из гетерогенных источников, и позволяет упростить разработку BI-приложений. Программный комплекс представляет собой многоуровневое приложение с архитектурой «Клиент-сервер». Каждый уровень комплекса соответствует степени абстракции данных. На самом низком уровне расположены драйверы доступа к специфическим физическим источникам данных. Следующий уровень – уровень виртуальной СУБД, позволяющей осуществлять унифицированный доступ к данным, что избавляет от необходимости учитывать специфику конкретных СУБД при разработке BI-приложений. Реализован программный интерфейс комплекса (API). В распоряжение разработчиков предоставляется набор готовых компонентов, которые могут быть использованы при создании BI-приложений. Это позволяет разрабатывать на основе комплекса BI-приложения, отвечающие современным требованиям, предъявляемым к подобным системам.

Using the e-Class Open Platform for e-Learning Support at the TEI of Larissa, Greece

In the current paper we firstly give a short introduction on e-learning platforms and review the case of the e-class open e-learning platform being used by the Greek tertiary education sector. Our analysis includes strategic selection issues and outcomes in general and operational and adoption issues in the case of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Larissa, Greece. The methodology is being based on qualitative analysis of interviews with key actors using the platform, and statistical analysis of quantitative data related to adoption and usage in the relevant populations. The author has been a key actor in all stages and describes his insights as an early adopter, diffuser and innovative user. We try to explain the issues under consideration using existing past research outcomes and we also arrive to some conclusions and points for further research.
