Computer networks are a critical factor for the performance of a modern company. Managing networks is as important as managing any other aspect of the company’s performance and security. There are many tools and appliances for monitoring the traffic and analyzing the network flow security. They use different approaches and rely on a variety of characteristics of the network flows. Network researchers are still working on a common approach for security baselining that might enable early watch alerts. This research focuses on the network security models, particularly the Denial-of-Services (DoS) attacks mitigation, based on a network flow analysis using the flows measurements and the theory of Markov models. The content of the paper comprises the essentials of the author’s doctoral thesis.

Multitype branching processes (MTBP) model branching structures, where the nodes of the resulting tree are particles of different types. Usually such a process is not observable in the sense of the whole tree, but only as the “generation” at a given moment in time, which consists of the number of particles of every type. This requires an EM-type algorithm to obtain a maximum likelihood (ML) estimate of the parameters of the branching process. Using a version of the inside-outside algorithm for stochastic context-free grammars (SCFG), such an estimate could be obtained for the offspring distribution of the process.

The correlated probit model is frequently used for multiple ordered data since it allows to incorporate seamlessly different correlation structures. The estimation of the probit model parameters based on direct maximization of the limited information maximum likelihood is a numerically intensive procedure. We propose an extension of the EM algorithm for obtaining maximum likelihood estimates for a correlated probit model for multiple ordinal outcomes. The algorithm is implemented in the free software environment for statistical computing and graphics R. We present two simulation studies to examine the performance of the developed algorithm. We apply the model to data on 121 women with cervical or endometrial cancer. Patients developed normal tissue reactions as a result of post-operative external beam pelvic radiotherapy. In this work we focused on modeling the effects of a genetic factor on early skin and early urogenital tissue reactions and on assessing the strength of association between the two types of reactions. We established that there was an association between skin reactions and polymorphism XRCC3 codon 241 (C>T) (rs861539) and that skin and urogenital reactions were positively correlated. The so called “Plural Uncertainty Model” is considered, in which statistical, maxmin, interval and Fuzzy model of uncertainty are embedded. For the last case external and internal contradictions of the theory are investigated and the modified definition of the Fuzzy Sets is proposed to overcome the troubles of the classical variant of Fuzzy Subsets by L. Zadeh. The general variants of logit- and probit- regression are the model of the modified Fuzzy Sets. It is possible to say about observations within the modification of the theory. The conception of the “situation” is proposed within modified Fuzzy Theory and the classifying problem is considered. The algorithm of the classification for the situation is proposed being the analogue of the statistical MLM(maximum likelihood method). The example related possible observing the distribution from the collection of distribution is considered.

This study is focused on the comparison and modification of different estimates arising in the branching processes. Simulations of models with or without migration are put through. Due to the complexity of the computations the algorithms are designed with the language of technical computing MATLAB. Using the simulations, estimates of the o spring mean of the generated processes are calculated. It is well known in the literature that under certain conditions the asymptotic distribution of the estimates is proved to be normal. Using the asymptotic normality a modified method of maximum likelihood is proposed. The aim is to obtain trimmed maximum likelihood estimates based on several sample paths with the same number of generations. Thus in a natural way the observations, inconsistent with the aprior information about the asymptotic normality are excluded from the model. The computation of the standard error allows the comparison of different types of estimates.

The method of logic and probabilistic models constructing for multivariate heterogeneous time series is offered. There are some important properties of these models, e.g. universality. In this paper also discussed the logic and probabilistic models distinctive features in comparison with hidden Markov processes. The early proposed time series forecasting algorithm is tested on applied task.
