In this paper, we indicate how integer-valued autoregressive time series Ginar(d) of ordre d, d ≥ 1, are simple functionals of multitype branching processes with immigration. This allows the derivation of a simple criteria for the existence of a stationary distribution of the time series, thus proving and extending some results by Al-Osh and Alzaid [1], Du and Li [9] and Gauthier and Latour [11]. One can then transfer results on estimation in subcritical multitype branching processes to stationary Ginar(d) and get consistency and asymptotic normality for the corresponding estimators. The technique covers autoregressive moving average time series as well.

The paper describes a learning-oriented interactive method for solving linear mixed integer problems of multicriteria optimization. The method increases the possibilities of the decision maker (DM) to describe his/her local preferences and at the same time it overcomes some computational difficulties, especially in problems of large dimension. The method is realized in an experimental decision support system for finding the solution of linear mixed integer multicriteria optimization problems.

One of the most widely studied protein structure prediction models is the hydrophobic-hydrophilic (HP) model, which explains the hydrophobic interaction and tries to maximize the number of contacts among hydrophobic amino-acids. In order to find a lower bound for the number of contacts, a number of heuristics have been proposed, but finding the optimal solution is still a challenge. In this research, we focus on creating a new integer programming model which is capable to provide tractable input for mixed-integer programming solvers, is general enough and allows relaxation with provable good upper bounds. Computational experiments using benchmark problems show that our formulation achieves these goals.

In this paper the low autocorrelation binary sequence problem (LABSP) is modeled as a mixed integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem and proof of the model’s validity is given. Since the MIQP model is semidefinite, general optimization solvers can be used, and converge in a finite number of iterations. The experimental results show that IQP solvers, based on this MIQP formulation, are capable of optimally solving general/skew-symmetric LABSP instances of up to 30/51 elements in a moderate time. A partition of a positive integer n is a way of writing it as the sum of positive integers without regard to order; the summands are called parts. The number of partitions of n, usually denoted by p(n), is determined asymptotically by the famous partition formula of Hardy and Ramanujan [5]. We shall introduce the uniform probability measure P on the set of all partitions of n assuming that the probability 1/p(n) is assigned to each n-partition. The symbols E and V ar will be further used to denote the expectation and variance with respect to the measure P . Thus, each conceivable numerical characteristic of the parts in a partition can be regarded as a random variable.
