Using the magnetization enumerator method, we evaluate the practical and theoretical limitations of symmetric channels with real outputs. Results are presented for several regular Gallager code constructions.

We demonstrate simultaneous demultiplexing, data regeneration and clock recovery at 10Gbits/s, using a single semiconductor optical amplifier–based nonlinear-optical loop mirror in a phase-locked loop configuration.

Microwave photonic filtering is realised using a superstructured fibre Bragg grating. The time delay of the optical taps is precisely controlled by the grating characteristics and fibre dispersion. A bandpass response with a rejection level of >45 dB is achieved.
