We show transmission of a 73.7 Tb/s (96x3x256-Gb/s) DP-16QAM modedivision- multiplexed signal over 119km of few-mode fiber with inline multi-mode EDFA, using 6x6 MIMO digital signal processing. The total demonstrated net capacity is 57.6 Tb/s (SE 12 bits/s/Hz). © 2012 OSA.

This paper shows, for the first time, the implementation of a WDM subsystem at the 2μm wavelength window with mixed formats. Three wavelength channels were directly modulated with BPSK Fast-OFDM at 5Gbit/s per channel, with a fourth channel NRZ-OOK externally modulated at 8.5Gbit/s giving a total capacity in excess of 20 Gbit/s. © 2012 OSA.

We report on the first recording of a 300-nm-period structure in a permanently moving sample of a pure fused silica using the tightly-focused, 82 nJ, 267 nm, 300 fs, 1 kHz laser pulses.

A novel approach based on transmissive phase-modulated fiber Bragg grating (FBG) to implement a virtual delay line interferometer (DLI) is proposed, designed, numerically simulated and fabricated. The resulting devices provide the functionality of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), or equivalently a Michelson-Morley interferometer (MMI).

A simple and efficient method to stabilise harmonically mode-locked fibre ring laser is proposed. In this method, a linear optical filter and a nonlinear Fabry-Perot filter are introduced into the laser cavity. Stable harmonically mode-locked pulses with supermode noise suppression ratio more than 55dB was demonstrated.

We demonstrate the first multi-wavelength regeneration of quadrature phase shift keyed (QPSK) formatted signals, showing a simultaneous Q2-factor improvement in excess of 3.8 dB for signals degraded by phase distortion

We present the first experimental implementation of an all-optical ROADM scheme for routing of individual channels within an all-optical OFDM superchannel. The interferometric technique demonstrated enables a fully flexible node, implementing the extraction, drop and addition of individual sub-channel.

We experimentally demonstrate a novel fibre nonlinearity compensation technique for CO-OFDM based on phase-conjugated pilots (PCPs), showing that, by varying the PCP overhead a performance improvement up to 4 dB can be achieved allowing highly flexible adaptation to link characteristics.

We demonstrate a simple method to experimentally evaluate nonlinear transmission performance of high order modulation formats using a low number of channels and channel-like ASE. We verify it's behaviour is consistent with the AWGN model of transmission.

We demonstrate a novel subcarrier coding scheme combined with pre-EDC for fibre nonlinearity mitigation in CO-OFDM, showing that a performance improvement of 1.5 dB can be achieved in a 150 Gb/s BPSK PDM CO-OFDM transmission.

In this paper, we demonstrate a fast switching dual polarization DDQPSK packet switched receiver with very short waiting times. The system employs mth power DDQPSK decoding for high frequency offset tolerance, and Stokes parameter estimation for robust polarization demultiplexing.

We demonstrate mode-locking and single-pulse generation in fibre laser with record-setting cavity length of 25 km. Substantial increase in the pulse round trip duration leads to ultra-low repetition rate of 8.097 kHz and pulse energy of 3.7 uJ.
