Black History Month Exhibit: Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons

Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons is an exhibition celebrating the contributions of African American academic surgeons to medicine and medical education. It tells the stories of four pioneering African American surgeons and educators who exemplify excellence in their fields and believe in continuing the journey of excellence through the education and mentoring younger physicians and surgeons. Through contemporary and historical images, the exhibition takes the visitor on a journey through the lives and achievements of these academic surgeons, and provides a glimpse into the stories of those that came before them and those that continue the tradition today. The exhibition will open at Inman E. Page Library, January 21st, 2016 and close on February 27, 2016.

LU Sesquicentennial Celebration

Lincoln University was founded in 1866 by the men of the 62nd and 65th United States Colored Infantries and their white officers, for the special benefit of freed African Americans. Lincoln University will mark its Sesquicentennial celebration in 2016. Inman E. Page Library Archives will present series of exhibits in the library and around the campus.

Money Smart Week April 25-29, 2016

Join us the week of April 25-29, 2016 to celebrate Money Smart Week 2016. We have great guest speakers from the financial institutions around the region come to talk about finances. Be present for each event and be entered into a drawing to receive $500 towards your student loan balance! A variety of food will be provided at each event too. The event is 4pm -5pm Monday to Friday at Inman E. Page Library.

Harriet Robinson

Born on September 10, 1917, in Jefferson City, Harriet Robinson is a child of two Lincoln University alumni. Robinson and her siblings also attended Lincoln Laboratory School and the University, but she was unable to finish her degree due to the Depression. Robinson worked in retail until she entered a federal re-training program. In 1969 she was hired at Lincoln University as a switchboard operator, and later worked as a library assistant at Page Library. For twenty-three years, Robinson helped students and faculty with their research, retiring in 1992. While at Page Library, she also had other responsibilities, such as keeping the Lincoln Collection. She recognized the historical importance of objects, salvaging things such as the “Blue Tiger” Café Window. Robinson has assisted people working on graduate and doctoral degrees, and several books have been dedicated to her. Her knowledge of Lincoln University is extensive, and many are fortunate that she has always shared her passion for history.

Exhibit: A Dream Is Kindled

In 1865, by the light of a campfire at Fort Bravos, Texas, the members of the 62nd United State Colored Troops discussed their plans for the life after the Civil War. The idea of starting a school for African Americans in Missouri appealed to the troops and soon a movement began to realize their dreams.
