CIPWFULL is a user-friendly, stand-alone FORTRAN software program that is designed to calculate the comprehensive CIPW normative mineral composition of igneous rocks and strictly adheres to the original formulation of the CIPW protocol. This faithful adherence alleviates inaccuracies in normative mineral calculations by programs commonly used by petrologists. Additionally, several of the most important petrological and mineralogical parameters of igneous rocks are calculated by the program. Along with all the regular major oxide elements, all the significant minor elements whose contents can potentially effect the CIPW normative mineral composition are included. CIPWFULL also calculates oxidation ratios for igneous rock samples that have only one oxidation state of iron reported in the specimen analysis. It also provides an option for normalization of analyses to unity on a hydrous-free basis in order to facilitate comparison of norms among rock groups. Other capabilities of the program cater for rare situations, like the presence of cancrinite or exclusion from the norm calculation of rare rocks like carbonatite. Several mineralogical, petrological and discriminatory parameters and indexes are additionally calculated by the CIPWFULL program. The CIPWFULL program is very efficient and flexible and allows for a user-defined free-format input of all the chemical species, and it permits feeding of minor elements as parts per million or oxide percentages. Results of calculations are printed in a formatted ASCII text file and may be optionally casted into a space-delimited text files that are ready to be imported to general spreadsheet programs. CIPWFULL is DOS-based and is implemented on WINDOWS and mainframe platforms.

Humidity and wet and dry bulk densities were determined for bottom sediments of the Lena River marginal filter within a 700 km section from the outer boundary of the river delta. Earlier determinations of suspended matter concentration in water, material and grain-size composition and age of sediments were made along the same section. Sediment matter fluxes (accumulation rates), their changes in space and time (about 14 ka) were inferred from measurements of physical parameters. A correlation was found between the physical parameters of bottom sediments and changes in the Lena river marginal filter including those caused by sea-level fluctuations.

Arctic sea ice is declining rapidly, making it vital to understand the importance of different types of sea ice for ice-dependent species such as polar bears Ursus maritimus. In this study we used GPS telemetry (25 polar bear tracks obtained in Svalbard, Norway, during spring) and high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sea-ice data to investigate fine-scale space use by female polar bears. Space use patterns differed according to reproductive state; females with cubs of the year (COYs) had smaller home ranges and used fast-ice areas more frequently than lone females. First-passage time (FPT) analysis revealed that females with COYs displayed significantly longer FPTs near (<10 km) glacier fronts than in other fast-ice areas; lone females also increased their FPTs in such areas, but they also frequently used drifting pack ice. These results clearly demonstrate the importance of fast-ice areas, in particular close to glacier fronts, especially for females with COYs. Access to abundant and predictable prey (ringed seal pups), energy conservation and reluctance to cross large open water areas are possible reasons for the observed patterns. However, glacier fronts are retracting in Svalbard, and declines in land-fast ice have been notable over the past decade. The eventual disappearance of these important habitats might become critical for the survival of polar bear cubs in Svalbard and other regions with similar habitat characteristics. Given the relatively small size of many fast-ice areas in Svalbard, the results observed in this study would not have been revealed using less accurate location data or lower-resolution sea-ice data.

The "CoMSBlack92" dataset is based on samples collected in the summer of 1992 along the Bulgarian coast including coastal and open sea areas. The whole dataset is composed of 79 samples (28 stations) with data of zooplankton species composition, abundance and biomass. Sampling for zooplankton was performed from bottom up to the surface at standard depths depending on water column stratification and the thermocline depth. Zooplankton samples were collected with vertical closing Juday net,diameter - 36cm, mesh size 150 ?m. Tows were performed from surface down to bottom meters depths in discrete layers. Samples were preserved by a 4% formaldehyde sea water buffered solution. Sampling volume was estimated by multiplying the mouth area with the wire length. Sampling volume was estimated by multiplying the mouth area with the wire length. The collected material was analysed using the method of Domov (1959). Samples were brought to volume of 25-30 ml depending upon zooplankton density and mixed intensively until all organisms were distributed randomly in the sample volume. After that 5 ml of sample was taken and poured in the counting chamber which is a rectangle form for taxomomic identification and count. Large (> 1 mm body length) and not abundant species were calculated in whole sample. Counting and measuring of organisms were made in the Dimov chamber under the stereomicroscope to the lowest taxon possible. Taxonomic identification was done at the Institute of Oceanology by Asen Konsulov using the relevant taxonomic literature (Mordukhay-Boltovskoy, F.D. (Ed.). 1968, 1969,1972 ). The biomass was estimated as wet weight by Petipa, 1959 (based on species specific wet weight). Wet weight values were transformed to dry weight using the equation DW=0.16*WW as suggested by Vinogradov & Shushkina, 1987. Copepods and Cladoceras were identified and enumerated; the other mesozooplankters were identified and enumerated at higher taxonomic level (commonly named as mesozooplankton groups). Large (> 1 mm body length) and not abundant species were calculated in whole sample. The biomass was estimated as wet weight by Petipa, 1959 ussing standard average weight of each species in mg/m**3.
