In France, farmers commission about 250,000 soil-testing analyses per year to assist them managing soil fertility. The number and diversity of origin of the samples make these analyses an interesting and original information source regarding cultivated topsoil variability. Moreover, these analyses relate to several parameters strongly influenced by human activity (macronutrient contents, pH...), for which existing cartographic information is not very relevant. Compiling the results of these analyses into a database makes it possible to re-use these data within both a national and temporal framework. A database compilation relating to data collected over the period 1990-2009 has been recently achieved. So far, commercial soil-testing laboratories approved by the Ministry of Agriculture have provided analytical results from more than 2,000,000 samples. After the initial quality control stage, analytical results from more than 1,900,000 samples were available in the database. The anonymity of the landholders seeking soil analyses is perfectly preserved, as the only identifying information stored is the location of the nearest administrative city to the sample site. We present in this dataset a set of statistical parameters of the spatial distributions for several agronomic soil properties. These statistical parameters are calculated for 4 different nested spatial entities (administrative areas: e.g. regions, departments, counties and agricultural areas) and for 4 time periods (1990-1994, 1995-1999, 2000-2004, 2005-2009). Two kinds of agronomic soil properties are available: the firs one correspond to the quantitative variables like the organic carbon content and the second one corresponds to the qualitative variables like the texture class. For each spatial unit and temporal period, we calculated the following statistics stets: the first set is calculated for the quantitative variables and corresponds to the number of samples, the mean, the standard deviation and, the 2-,4-,10-quantiles; the second set is calculated for the qualitative variables and corresponds to the number of samples, the value of the dominant class, the number of samples of the dominant class, the second dominant class, the number of samples of the second dominant class.

The dataset consists of 87Sr/86Sr isotope ratios of plant samples and soil leachates covering the major geologic regions of France. In addition to the isotope data it provides the spatial context for each sample, including background geology, field observations and soil descriptions. The dataset can be used to create Sr isoscapes for France, which can be applied in a wide range of fields including archaeology, ecology, soil, food, and forensic sciences.

Oceanic Anoxic Event 2 (OAE2), spanning the Cenomanian-Turonian boundary (CTB), represents one of the largest perturbations in the global carbon cycle in the last 100 Myr. The d13Ccarb, d13Corg, and d18O chemostratigraphy of a black shale-bearing CTB succession in the Vocontian Basin of France is described and correlated at high resolution to the European CTB reference section at Eastbourne, England, and to successions in Germany, the equatorial and midlatitude proto-North Atlantic, and the U.S. Western Interior Seaway (WIS). Delta13C (offset between d13Ccarb and d13Corg) is shown to be a good pCO2 proxy that is consistent with pCO2 records obtained using biomarker d13C data from Atlantic black shales and leaf stomata data from WIS sections. Boreal chalk d18O records show sea surface temperature (SST) changes that closely follow the Delta13C pCO2 proxy and confirm TEX86 results from deep ocean sites. Rising pCO2 and SST during the Late Cenomanian is attributed to volcanic degassing; pCO2 and SST maxima occurred at the onset of black shale deposition, followed by falling pCO2 and cooling due to carbon sequestration by marine organic productivity and preservation, and increased silicate weathering. A marked pCO2 minimum (~25% fall) occurred with a SST minimum (Plenus Cold Event) showing >4°C of cooling in ~40 kyr. Renewed increases in pCO2, SST, and d13C during latest Cenomanian black shale deposition suggest that a continuing volcanogenic CO2 flux overrode further drawdown effects. Maximum pCO2 and SST followed the end of OAE2, associated with a falling nutrient supply during the Early Turonian eustatic highstand.

This dataset presents hydro-sedimentary data within the Bossons glacier proglacial area. Bossons glacier is rapidly retreating and its proglacial area is deglaciated for ~ 30 years. It is an intriguing location to study periglacial, proglacial and subglacial erosion processes which requires estimating Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) and Total Suspended Solid (TSS) concentrations, and discharge. Measurements were performed at three distinct locations within Bosson glacier watershed : Bossons downstream (BDS), Bossons upstream (BUS) and Crosette (CRO). The latter is located at the glacier termini whereas BDS and BUS stations are farther downstream from the glacier, at 1.5 and 1.15 km, respectively .
