Microbial communities were analyzed at 17 sites visited during the expedition Tundra Northwest 1999 (TNW-99) by microscopic analyses (epifluorescence microscopy and image analyses). The data were used to describe the communities of bacteria, fungi and algae in detail by number, biovolume and biomass. Great variability was found, which could be related to organic matter content of soils and features of vegetation patterns. The amounts (numbers and abundance) of organisms and data on microbial biomass are discussed in relation to other polar environments of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

The cores described in this paper were taken in the tropical central Pacific Ocean by Scripps Institution of Oceanography's R/V Alexander Agassiz on the STYX Expedition of April-September 1968. A total of 132 cores were attempted of which 97 were successful. These cores are available at Scripps for sampling and study.

Seamounts are very effectively studied by deep-sea photography. Each photograph can be considered as a sample point when used in connection with bathymetric surveys, dredge samples, and cores, thus making it possible to delineate and map geologic and biologic zones on a seamount. Seamounts transcend through a great depth range and are characterized by minimal sedimentation which results in exciting and photogenic differences of environment over a short distance, as typified by our studies of Great Meteor and the New England Seamounts.

A geophysical survey was conducted off Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands over a four-week period (July 12 to August 5, 1970) as part of HUDSON-70 expedition. The HUDSON-70 expedition was organized as part of the Canadian contribution to the International Decade of Oceanographic Exploration. The geophysical survey was conducted to study the subsurface structure across the continental margin off the British Columbia coast and in the deep ocean basins. The present report contains descriptions of the various measurements made during this cruise and the data collected.

The cores and dredges described are taken during the R/V New Horizon RISE III Expedition from April until May 1979 by the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. A total of 36 cores and dredges were recovered and are available at Scripps Institute of Oceanography for sampling and study. The goal of this expedition was to accomplish the field work of a combined field and laboratory study aimed at increasing the understanding of the origins and development of young oceanic volcanoes.
