d11B and trace results obtained for a deep sea coral specimen Madrepora oculata collected from the Norwegian Sea (67°N, 9°E, 340 m) during the RV Polarstern ARK/II/Ia cruise (2007). Such coral specimen grew during the last four decades (1968-2007) and geochemical results highligh a seawater pH decrease with an order of magnitude in good agreement with an ocean acidification rate today known. This pH record is strongly impacted by inter-decadal change of ocean dynamic (NAO) and productivity. pHT calculation parameters (Hönisch et al., 2007): a=5; a=0.9804, d11B=39.5 PER MIL, Li/Mg temperature, salinity=35.1, pKB from Dickson (1990).

A third glacier inventory (GI3) is presented for the province of Salzburg where 173 glaciers are located in the seven mountain ranges: Ankogel (47°4'N, 13°14'E), Glockner, Granatspitz, Sonnblick (Goldberg), Hochkönig, Venediger and Zillertal (47°8'N, 12°7'E). The basis for the new GI3 are orthophotos of 2007 and 2009 and the digital elevation model (DEM) of the southern part of Salzburg. On the basis of former inventories, area- and volume changes have been calculated. The biggest relative loss of glacier area per mountain range was found in the Ankogel range and on Hochkönig as a result of the disrupted structure of their small and thin glaciers. In terms of absolute values, the largest changes took place in the Glockner- and Venediger range with an area loss of -10.1 km**2 and -9.7 km**2 during the period between GI1 (1969) and GI3 (2007/2009), respectively. Volume changes have been calculated for nearly half of the glacier area in Salzburg, where DEMs were available. The Glockner, Granatspitz and Sonnblick mountain ranges showed a volume loss of -0.481 km**3 which corresponds to a mean thickness change of -10.5 m. An extrapolation of these changes to all of the 173 glaciers in Salzburg results in a loss of about 1.04 km**3 between GI1 and GI3 and 0.44 km**3 between GI2 and GI3. Overall annual changes in the province of Salzburg between GI2 and GI3 were higher than between GI1 and GI2 and show likewise changes such as those of Tyrol.

The marine laboratories in Plymouth have sampled at two principle sites in the Western English Channel for over a century in open-shelf (station E1; 50° 02'N, 4° 22'W) and coastal (station L4; 50° 15'N, 4° 13'W) waters. These stations are seasonally stratified from late-April until September, and the variable biological response is regulated by subtle variations in temperature, light, nutrients and meteorology. Station L4 is characterized by summer nutrient depletion, although intense summer precipitation, increasing riverine input to the system, results in pulses of increased nitrate concentration and surface freshening. The winter nutrient concentrations at E1 are consistent with an open-shelf site. Both stations have a spring and autumn phytoplankton bloom; at station E1, the autumn bloom tends to dominate in terms of chlorophyll concentration. The last two decades have seen a warming of around 0.6°C per decade, and this is superimposed on several periods of warming and cooling over the past century. In general, over the Western English Channel domain, the end of the 20th century was around 0.5°C warmer than the first half of the century. The warming magnitude and trend is consistent with other stations across the north-west European Shelf and occurred during a period of reduced wind stress and increased levels of insolation (+20%); these are both correlated with the larger scale climatic forcing of the North Atlantic Oscillation.

delta11B results and deduced pH, pCO2 and omega values obtained for a tropical coral specimen Porites collected in 1998 at Yasawa (16°48'S- 177°27'E) on the western side of the Fiji archipelago, location in the north western part of the Pacific Warm Pool. Such Porites specimen grew during the XXth century (1898-1998). Boron isotopes results allowed the reconstruction of surface ocean acidification in the vincinity of Fiji Islands with strong interdecadal influence of the ENSO at regional scale. pHT calculation parameters (Hönisch et al., 2007): a=0 PER MIL; alpha=0.9804; delta11B=39.5 PER MIL; salinity=35.02; pKB from Dickson (1990). pCO2 and omega calculation parameters: TA= 2350 µM; Ca= 10.2 mM; Dickson et al.(2007); Mucci 1983.
