Allocentric and egocentric spatial impairments in a case of topographical disorientation

We describe a patient with a topographical disorientation after a stroke of the right mediotemporooccipital lobe including the parahippocampal cortex (PHC). Clinical observations and neuropsychological testing reveal an impairment of allocentric spatial representations as well as impairments of visuospatial learning and memory. These findings are in accordance with the well-known function of the PHC in topographical disorientation. As a new finding, results from oculomotor tasks show additional impairments of the egocentric spatial coordinate frame suggesting that in topographical disorientation due to a lesion of the right mediotemporooccipital lobe not only allocentric but also egocentric visuospatial functions are disturbed.

Bathymetry of Lake Constance - State-of-the-art in surveying a large lake

In 2014 the by far largest German lake has been newly surveyed. The transnational project is funded by the European Union and delivers a detailed 3D-model of the lake- floor. The German project name is »Tiefenschärfe – Hochauflösende Vermessung Bo- densee«, which in English roughly means: high-resolution survey of Lake Constance. The German term »Tiefenschärfe« (in optics and photography: depth of field) plays with the meanings of »Tiefe« (depth) and »Schärfe« (sharpness). The result of the sur- vey shall be a clear and sharp image of the deep and shallow lake- floor. At present the LiDAR and multibeam data are still processed, but first results are presented in this article.

Kulbus: Darfur: West Sudan Topographical Field Map Sheet 1

The present map sheet is one of six field maps of the Darfur Map Series Release II (1:250'000). The maps and the geodatabase were preparded by the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Berne with funding from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The map is being released as a technical contribution to support the humanitarian, peace-keeping and reconstruction efforts in Darfur, Western Sudan.
