The field of molecule-based magnets is a relatively new branch of chemistry, which involves the design and study of molecular compounds that exhibit a spontaneous magnetic ordering below a critical temperature, Tc. One major goal involves the design of materials with tuneable Tc's for specific applications in memory storage devices. Molecule-based magnets with high magnetic ordering temperatures have recently been obtained from bimetallic and mixed-valence transition metal μ-cyanide complexes of the Prussian blue family. Since the μ-cyanide linkages permit an interaction between paramagnetic metal ions, cyanometalate building blocks have found useful applications in the field of molecule-based magnets. Our work involves the use of octacyanometalate building blocks for the self-assembly of two new classes of magnetic materials namely, high-spin molecular clusters which exhibit both ferromagnetic intra- and intercluster coupling, and specific extended network topologies which show long-range ferromagnetic ordering.

OBJECTIVE: To design and evaluate a novel computer-assisted, fluoroscopy-based planning and navigation system for minimally invasive ventral spondylodesis of thoracolumbar fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Instruments and an image intensifier are tracked with the SurgiGATE navigation system (Praxim-Medivision). Two fluoroscopic images, one acquired from anterior-posterior (AP) direction and the other from lateral-medial (LM) direction, are used for the complete procedure of planning and navigation. Both of them are calibrated with a custom-made software to recover their projection geometry and to co-register them to a common patient reference coordinate system, which is established by attaching an opto-electronically trackable dynamic reference base (DRB) on the operated vertebra. A bi-planar landmark reconstruction method is used to acquire deep-seated anatomical landmarks such that an intraoperative planning of graft bed can be interactively done. Finally, surgical actions such as the placement of the stabilization devices and the formation of the graft bed using a custom-made chisel are visualized to the surgeon by superimposing virtual instrument representations onto the acquired images. The distance between the instrument tip and each wall of the planned graft bed are calculated on the fly and presented to the surgeon so that the surgeon could formalize the graft bed exactly according to his/her plan. RESULTS: Laboratory studies on phantom and on 27 plastic vertebras demonstrate the high precision of the proposed navigation system. Compared with CT-based measurement, a mean error of 1.0 mm with a standard deviation of 0.1 mm was found. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed computer assisted, fluoroscopy-based planning and navigation system promises to increase the accuracy and reliability of minimally invasive ventral spondylodesis of thoracolumbar fractures.

Abstract. During the last decade mobile communications increasingly became part of people's daily routine. Such usage raises new challenges regarding devices' battery lifetime management when using most popular wireless access technologies, such as IEEE 802.11. This paper investigates the energy/delay trade-off of using an end-user driven power saving approach, when compared with the standard IEEE 802.11 power saving algorithms. The assessment was conducted in a real testbed using an Android mobile phone and high-precision energy measurement hardware. The results show clear energy benefits of employing user-driven power saving techniques, when compared with other standard approaches.

Equipped with state-of-the-art smartphones and mobile devices, today's highly interconnected urban population is increasingly dependent on these gadgets to organize and plan their daily lives. These applications often rely on current (or preferred) locations of individual users or a group of users to provide the desired service, which jeopardizes their privacy; users do not necessarily want to reveal their current (or preferred) locations to the service provider or to other, possibly untrusted, users. In this paper, we propose privacy-preserving algorithms for determining an optimal meeting location for a group of users. We perform a thorough privacy evaluation by formally quantifying privacy-loss of the proposed approaches. In order to study the performance of our algorithms in a real deployment, we implement and test their execution efficiency on Nokia smartphones. By means of a targeted user-study, we attempt to get an insight into the privacy-awareness of users in location-based services and the usability of the proposed solutions.

Objectives: To investigate surface roughness and microhardness of two recent resin-ceramic materials for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) after polishing with three polishing systems. Surface roughness and microhardness were measured immediately after polishing and after six months storage including monthly artificial toothbrushing. Methods: Sixty specimens of Lava Ultimate (3M ESPE) and 60 specimens of VITA ENAMIC (VITA Zahnfabrik) were roughened in a standardized manner and polished with one of three polishing systems (n=20/group): Sof-Lex XT discs (SOFLEX; three-step (medium-superfine); 3M ESPE), VITA Polishing Set Clinical (VITA; two-step; VITA Zahnfabrik), or KENDA Unicus (KENDA; one-step; KENDA Dental). Surface roughness (Ra; μm) was measured with a profilometer and microhardness (Vickers; VHN) with a surface hardness indentation device. Ra and VHN were measured immediately after polishing and after six months storage (tap water, 37°C) including monthly artificial toothbrushing (500 cycles/month, toothpaste RDA ~70). Ra- and VHN-values were analysed with nonparametric ANOVA followed by Wilcoxon rank sum tests (α=0.05). Results: For Lava Ultimate, Ra (mean [standard deviation] before/after storage) remained the same when polished with SOFLEX (0.18 [0.09]/0.19 [0.10]; p=0.18), increased significantly with VITA (1.10 [0.44]/1.27 [0.39]; p=0.0001), and decreased significantly with KENDA (0.35 [0.07]/0.33 [0.08]; p=0.03). VHN (mean [standard deviation] before/after storage) decreased significantly regardless of polishing system (SOFLEX: 134.1 [5.6]/116.4 [3.6], VITA: 138.2 [10.5]/115.4 [5.9], KENDA: 135.1 [6.2]/116.7 [6.3]; all p<0.0001). For VITA ENAMIC, Ra (mean [standard deviation] before/after storage) increased significantly when polished with SOFLEX (0.37 [0.18]/0.41 [0.14]; p=0.01) and remained the same with VITA (1.32 [0.37]/1.31 [0.40]; p=0.58) and with KENDA (0.81 [0.35]/0.78 [0.32]; p=0.21). VHN (mean [standard deviation] before/after storage) remained the same regardless of polishing system (SOFLEX: 284.9 [24.6]/282.4 [31.8], VITA: 284.6 [28.5]/276.4 [25.8], KENDA: 292.6 [26.9]/282.9 [24.3]; p=0.42-1.00). Conclusion: Surface roughness and microhardness of Lava Ultimate was more affected by storage and artificial toothbrushing than was VITA ENAMIC.

Purpose: To investigate the bond strength to dentin of two recent resin-ceramic materials for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) after 24 hours and after six months storage. Methods and Materials: Ninety cylinders were milled out of Lava Ultimate (3M ESPE) and 90 cylinders out of VITA ENAMIC (VITA Zahnfabrik) (dimension of cylinders: ∅=3.6 mm, h=2 mm). All Lava Ultimate cylinders were sandblasted (aluminium oxide, grain size: 27 μm) and cleaned with ethanol, whereas all VITA ENAMIC cylinders were acid-etched (5% hydrofluoric acid) and cleaned with water-spray. According to the three groups of cements used, the cylinders (n=30/resin-ceramic material) were further pretreated with 1) Scotchbond Universal for RelyX Ultimate (3M ESPE), 2) CLEARFIL Ceramic Primer for PANAVIA F2.0 (Kuraray), or 3) no further pretreatment for Ketac Cem Plus (3M ESPE). The cylinders were then bonded to ground human dentin specimens with 1) Scotchbond Universal and RelyX Ultimate (light-cured), 2) ED PRIMER II and PANAVIA F2.0 (light-cured), or 3) no adhesive system; Ketac Cem Plus (self-cured). Shear bond strength (SBS) was measured after 24 hours for 15 specimens/group and after six months (37°C, 100% humidity) for the other 15 specimens/group. SBS-values were statistically analysed with nonparametric ANOVA followed by exact Wilcoxon rank sum tests (α=0.05). Results: SBS of the two resin-ceramic materials and the three cements after 24 hours and after six months storage are shown in Figure 1. The statistical analysis showed that the duration of storage had a significant effect on SBS of Lava Ultimate for all three cements but had no significant effect on SBS of VITA ENAMIC. For Lava Ultimate SBS-values were (MPa; medians after 24 hours/six months): 13.5/22.5 (p=0.04) for RelyX Ultimate, 11.4/5.8 (p=0.0006) for PANAVIA F2.0, and 0.34/0.09 (p=0.04) for Ketac Cem Plus (Fig. 1). For VITA ENAMIC SBS-values were (MPa; medians after 24 hours/six months): 16.0/21.2 (p=0.10) for RelyX Ultimate, 11.4/14.4 (p=0.06) for PANAVIA F2.0, and 0.43/0.41 (p=0.32) for Ketac Cem Plus (Fig. 1). After 24 hours, there was no significant difference in SBS between Lava Ultimate and VITA ENAMIC for all three cements (p≥0.37). After six months, there was no significant difference in SBS between Lava Ultimate and VITA ENAMIC for RelyX Ultimate and Ketac Cem Plus (p≥0.07) whereas for PANAVIA F2.0, SBS was significantly lower for Lava Ultimate than for VITA ENAMIC (p<0.0001). Conclusion: SBS of Lava Ultimate was more affected by six months storage and by the cement used than was VITA ENAMIC.

Introduction Language is the most important mean of communication and plays a central role in our everyday life. Brain damage (e.g. stroke) can lead to acquired disorders of lan- guage affecting the four linguistic modalities (i.e. reading, writing, speech production and comprehension) in different combinations and levels of severity. Every year, more than 5000 people (Aphasie Suisse) are affected by aphasia in Switzerland alone. Since aphasia is highly individual, the level of difficulty and the content of tasks have to be adapted continuously by the speech therapists. Computer-based assignments allow patients to train independently at home and thus increasing the frequency of ther- apy. Recent developments in tablet computers have opened new opportunities to use these devices for rehabilitation purposes. Especially older people, who have no prior experience with computers, can benefit from the new technologies. Methods The aim of this project was to develop an application that enables patients to train language related tasks autonomously and, on the other hand, allows speech therapists to assign exercises to the patients and to track their results online. Seven categories with various types of assignments were implemented. The application has two parts which are separated by a user management system into a patient interface and a therapist interface. Both interfaces were evaluated using the SUS (Subject Usability Scale). The patient interface was tested by 15 healthy controls and 5 patients. For the patients, we also collected tracking data for further analysis. The therapist interface was evaluated by 5 speech therapists. Results The SUS score are xpatients = 98 and xhealthy = 92.7 (median = 95, SD = 7, 95% CI [88.8, 96.6]) in case of the patient interface and xtherapists = 68 in case of the therapist interface. Conclusion Both, the patients and the healthy subjects, attested high SUS scores to the patient interface. These scores are considered as "best imaginable". The therapist interface got a lower SUS score compared to the patient interface, but is still considered as "good" and "usable". The user tracking system and the interviews revealed that there is room for improvements and inspired new ideas for future versions.

With a boom in the usage of mobile devices for traffic-heavy applications, mobile networks struggle to deliver good performance while saving resources to support more users and save on costs. In this paper, we propose enhanced strategies for the preemptive migration of content stored in Information-Centric Networking caches at the edge of LTE mobile networks. With such strategies, the concept of content following the users interested in it becomes a reality and content within caches is more optimized towards the requests of nearby users. Results show that the strategies are feasible, efficient and, when compared to default caching strategies, ensure that content is delivered faster to end users while using bandwidth and storage resources more efficiently at the core of the network.
