BACKGROUND: To investigate if non-rigid image-registration reduces motion artifacts in triggered and non-triggered diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of native kidneys. A secondary aim was to determine, if improvements through registration allow for omitting respiratory-triggering. METHODS: Twenty volunteers underwent coronal DTI of the kidneys with nine b-values (10-700 s/mm2 ) at 3 Tesla. Image-registration was performed using a multimodal nonrigid registration algorithm. Data processing yielded the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), the contribution of perfusion (FP ), and the fractional anisotropy (FA). For comparison of the data stability, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the fitting and the standard deviations within the regions of interest (SDROI ) were evaluated. RESULTS: RMSEs decreased significantly after registration for triggered and also for non-triggered scans (P < 0.05). SDROI for ADC, FA, and FP were significantly lower after registration in both medulla and cortex of triggered scans (P < 0.01). Similarly the SDROI of FA and FP decreased significantly in non-triggered scans after registration (P < 0.05). RMSEs were significantly lower in triggered than in non-triggered scans, both with and without registration (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Respiratory motion correction by registration of individual echo-planar images leads to clearly reduced signal variations in renal DTI for both triggered and particularly non-triggered scans. The fuzzy analytical network process (FANP) is introduced as a potential multi-criteria-decision-making (MCDM) method to improve digital marketing management endeavors. Today’s information overload makes digital marketing optimization, which is needed to continuously improve one’s business, increasingly difficult. The proposed FANP framework is a method for enhancing the interaction between customers and marketers (i.e., involved stakeholders) and thus for reducing the challenges of big data. The presented implementation takes realities’ fuzziness into account to manage the constant interaction and continuous development of communication between marketers and customers on the Web. Using this FANP framework, the marketers are able to increasingly meet the varying requirements of their customers. To improve the understanding of the implementation, advanced visualization methods (e.g., wireframes) are used.

This paper gives an insight into cognitive computing for smart cities, resulting in cognitive cities. Cognitive cities and cognitive computing research with the underlying concepts of knowledge graphs and fuzzy cognitive maps are presented and supported by existing tools (i.e., IBM Watson and Google Now) and intended tools (meta-app). The paper illustrates FCM as a suiting instrument to represent information/knowledge in a city environment driven by human-technology interaction, enforcing the concept of cognitive cities. A proposed paper prototype combines the findings of the paper and shows the next step in the implementation of the proposed meta-app.

Diese sogenannten Open Finance Apps helfen mit, dass sich Bevoelkerung und Politik rasch ein objektives Bild der relevanten Finanzen verschaffen und vertiefte Informationen abrufen koennen. Immer haeufiger werden Open Finance Apps auch für partizipative und kollaborative Projekte eingesetzt.

Waehrend zu Public Governance eine breite wissenschaftliche Debatte existiert und die Analyse staatlicher Aufgabeerfuellung davon profitiert, so steht die praxisnahe Umsetzung weniger im Zentrum der wissenschaftlichen Betrachtungen. Open Government hingegen entwickelt sich als relevante Praktikerbewegung ohne in die wissenschaftliche Diskussion eingeflossen zu sein. Dieser Artikel verbindet die beiden bislang unabhaengig voneinander existierenden Ansaetze und zeigt den Mehrwert von Open Government zur Umsetzung von Public Governance auf.

Open innovation is increasingly being adopted in business and describes a situation in which firms exchange ideas and knowledge with external participants, such as customers, suppliers, partner firms, and universities. This article extends the concept of open innovation with a push model of open innovation: knowledge is voluntarily created outside a firm by individuals and organisations who proceed to push knowledge into a firm’s open innovation project. For empirical analysis, we examine source code and newsgroup data on the Eclipse Development Platform. We find that outsiders invest as much in the firm’s project as the founding firm itself. Based on the insights from Eclipse, we develop four propositions: ‘preemptive generosity’ of a firm, ‘continuous commitment’, ‘adaptive governance structure’, and ‘low entry barrier’ are contexts that enable the push model of open innovation.

Research on open source software (OSS) projects often focuses on the SourceForge collaboration platform. We argue that a GNU/Linwr distribution, such as Debian, is better suited for the sampling ofprojects because it avoids biases and contains unique information only available in an integrated environment. Especially research on the reuse of components can build on dependency information inherent in the Debian GNU/Linux packaging system. This paper therefore contributes to the practice of sampling methods in OSS research and provides empirical data on reuse dependencies in Debian.

This paper presents a shallow dialogue analysis model, aimed at human-human dialogues in the context of staff or business meetings. Four components of the model are defined, and several machine learning techniques are used to extract features from dialogue transcripts: maximum entropy classifiers for dialogue acts, latent semantic analysis for topic segmentation, or decision tree classifiers for discourse markers. A rule-based approach is proposed for solving cross-modal references to meeting documents. The methods are trained and evaluated thanks to a common data set and annotation format. The integration of the components into an automated shallow dialogue parser opens the way to multimodal meeting processing and retrieval applications.

The question concerning the circumstances under which it is advantageous for a company to outsource certain information systems functions has been a controversial issue for the last decade. While opponents emphasize the risks of outsourcing based on the loss of strategic potentials and increased transaction costs, proponents emphasize the strategic benefits of outsourcing and high potentials of cost-savings. This paper brings together both views by examining the conditions under which both the strategic potentials as well as savings in production and transaction costs of developing and maintaining software applications can better be achieved in-house as opposed to by an external vendor. We develop a theoretical framework from three complementary theories and test it empirically based on a mail survey of 139 German companies. The results show that insourcing is more cost efficient and advantageous in creating strategic benefits through IS if the provision of application services requires a high amount of firm specific human assets. These relationships, however, are partially moderated by differences in the trustworthiness and intrinsic motivation of internal versus external IS professionals. Moreover, capital shares with an external vendor can lower the risk of high transaction costs as well the risk of loosing the strategic opportunities of an IS.

The evolution of wireless access technologies and mobile devices, together with the constant demand for video services, has created new Human-Centric Multimedia Networking (HCMN) scenarios. However, HCMN poses several challenges for content creators and network providers to deliver multimedia data with an acceptable quality level based on the user experience. Moreover, human experience and context, as well as network information play an important role in adapting and optimizing video dissemination. In this paper, we discuss trends to provide video dissemination with Quality of Experience (QoE) support by integrating HCMN with cloud computing approaches. We identified five trends coming from such integration, namely Participatory Sensor Networks, Mobile Cloud Computing formation, QoE assessment, QoE management, and video or network adaptation.

The biggest challenge facing software developers today is how to gracefully evolve complex software systems in the face of changing requirements. We clearly need software systems to be more dynamic, compositional and model-centric, but instead we continue to build systems that are static, baroque and inflexible. How can we better build change-enabled systems in the future? To answer this question, we propose to look back to one of the most successful systems to support change, namely Smalltalk. We briefly introduce Smalltalk with a few simple examples, and draw some lessons for software evolution. Smalltalk's simplicity, its reflective design, and its highly dynamic nature all go a long way towards enabling change in Smalltalk applications. We then illustrate how these lessons work in practice by reviewing a number of research projects that support software evolution by exploiting Smalltalk's design. We conclude by summarizing open issues and challenges for change-enabled systems of the future.
