Fleet Management System for Search and Rescue Operations

Over one million people lost their lives in the last twenty years from natural disasters like wildfires, earthquakes and man-made disasters. In such scenarios the usage of a fleet of robots aims at the parallelization of the workload and thus increasing speed and capabilities to complete time sensitive missions. This work focuses on the development of a dynamic fleet management system, which consists in the management of multiple agents cooperating in order to accomplish tasks. We presented a Mixed Integer Programming problem for the management and planning of mission’s tasks. The problem was solved using both an exact and a heuristic approach. The latter is based on the idea of solving iteratively smaller instances of the complete problem. Alongside, a fast and efficient algorithm for estimation of travel times between tasks is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed heuristic approach is able to generate quality solutions, within specific time limits, compared to the exact one.

HBIM to Virtual Reality Workflow for Industrial Archaeology Immovable Assets’ Management: A Case Study

As a witness on the industrialization in Bologna, since its first generation was born in the late 1760, the Battiferro lock has been coping with the innovation that the city experienced throughout the centuries, until it has lost its functionality due to the technological development for which Bologna’s canals were gradually covered starting from the 1950s under Giuseppe Dozza ’s administration, as part of the reconstruction, reclamation and urban requalification that was carried out in the aftermath the World War II and which involved the whole city. The interest of the research carried out on this case study was primarily to reintroduce the landmark that is still intact, to what is considered to be the fourth generation of the industrial revolution, namely in the construction field, which is recognized as Construction 4.0, by means of the Historic (or Heritage) Information Modeling HBIM and Virtual Reality (VR) application. A scan-to-BIM approach was followed to create 3D as-built BIM model, as a first step towards the storytelling of the abandoned industrial built asset in VR environment, or as a seed for future applications such as Digital Twins (DT), heritage digital learning, sustainable impact studies, and/or interface with other interfaces such as GIS. Based on the HBIM product, examples of the primary BIM deliverables such as 2D layouts is given, then a workflow to VR is proposed and investigated the reliability of data and the type of users that may benefit of the VR experience, then the potential future development of the model is investigated, with comparison of a relatively similar experience in the UK.

Un Campidoglio felsineo. Stratificazioni storiche e progetti di valorizzazione del patrimonio monumentale di Villa Aldini a Bologna, dalla rotonda romanica di Santa Maria del Monte agli interventi del fascismo.

Tesi in Storia dell'Architettura che si propone di analizzare il complesso architettonico che corona il colle dell'Osservanza a Bologna, descrivendone le stratificazioni per comprendere come si sia consolidato l'assetto odierno. La ricerca ricostruisce tutte le fasi storiche e si concentra sulla rilettura critica degli interventi passati al fine di trovare nuove funzioni compatibili per riqualificare l'area. Partendo dalla costruzione del primo nucleo, costituito dalla rotonda romanica, si è cercato di ipotizzare la struttura del Monastero di Santa Maria del Monte all'apice della sua estensione, arrivando alla successiva villa neoclassica ottocentesca e alla residenza per vedove di guerra edificata in epoca fascista. Tramite lo studio di piante, disegni e planimetrie conservate negli Archivi, si è cercato di ricostruire la scansione temporale dei numerosi progetti di rinascita che si sono succeduti fino ai giorni nostri, ma anche di rintracciare ogni segno delle demolizioni e le trasformazioni subite nel corso dei secoli dalle strutture, come quelli lasciati sulla villa dalla progettazione dell'enfatica cappella di Antonio Serra per una fallita riconversione in chiesa. La tesi prende in esame in particolare la delicata fase dei restauri della rotonda della Madonna del Monte ad opera di Guido Zucchini, intervento fortemente integrativo avvenuto tra gli anni Trenta e Cinquanta del Novecento, il cui approccio stilistico aderiva perfettamente alla concezione di restauro del Comitato per la Bologna Storica e Artistica di quegli anni e del suo maestro Alfonso Rubbiani. Da complesso sacro a vanto architettonico dell'Italia napoleonica, divenuto problema urbanistico e quasi dimenticato, il luogo si trova oggi di fronte a una nuova possibilità: riappropriarsi dei suoi più autentici valori storici, architettonico e simbolici come un moderno “Campidoglio felsineo”, ridefinendo la propria identità nel rispetto delle antiche memorie.
