Multi-Processor SoC (MPSOC) design brings to the foreground a large number of challenges, one of the most prominent of which is the design of the chip interconnection. With a number of on-chip blocks presently ranging in the tens, and quickly approaching the hundreds, the novel issue of how to best provide on-chip communication resources is clearly felt. Scaling down of process technologies has increased process and dynamic variations as well as transistor wearout. Because of this, delay variations increase and impact the performance of the MPSoCs. The interconnect architecture inMPSoCs becomes a single point of failure as it connects all other components of the system together. A faulty processing element may be shut down entirely, but the interconnect architecture must be able to tolerate partial failure and variations and operate with performance, power or latency overhead. This dissertation focuses on techniques at different levels of abstraction to face with the reliability and variability issues in on-chip interconnection networks. By showing the test results of a GALS NoC testchip this dissertation motivates the need for techniques to detect and work around manufacturing faults and process variations in MPSoCs’ interconnection infrastructure. As a physical design technique, we propose the bundle routing framework as an effective way to route the Network on Chips’ global links. For architecture-level design, two cases are addressed: (I) Intra-cluster communication where we propose a low-latency interconnect with variability robustness (ii) Inter-cluster communication where an online functional testing with a reliable NoC configuration are proposed. We also propose dualVdd as an orthogonal way of compensating variability at the post-fabrication stage. This is an alternative strategy with respect to the design techniques, since it enforces the compensation at post silicon stage.

Igor Stravinskij (1882-1971) utilizzò di sovente fonti preesistenti come parte integrante del proprio artigianato compositivo. In questa tesi dottorale ho studiato il processo creativo di Stravinskij negli anni Venti sulle musiche di Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij (1840-1893). Nella prima parte della dissertazione ho indagato la Sleeping Princess (1921) e il successivo Mariage d’Aurore (1922-1929), entrambi allestiti dai Ballets russes di Sergej Djagilev (1872-1929). Dopo aver localizzato e contestualizzato le fonti manoscritte e i materiali d’uso, ho ricostruito le ri-orchestrazioni effettuate da Stravinskij della Danse russe (Coda del Pas de deux n. 28) e del Presto del Finale (n. 30), che erano a tutt’oggi inedite. La ricerca sulla Sleeping Princess si è rivelata fondamentale per la conseguente analisi del Baiser de la Fée (1928, Ballets de Mme Ida Rubinstein), balletto basato su pezzi pianistici e romanze per voce e pianoforte di Čajkovskij. Grazie allo studio dello Skizzenbuch VIII, della partitura pianistica manoscritta e di tutte le fonti rinvenute, ho gettato ulteriore luce sul processo compositivo di Stravinskij sulle fonti čajkovskiane. Ho rinvenuto nuove appropriazioni che finora non erano note.

Sempre più spesso negli ultimi decenni la figura e la musica di Carlo Ambrogio Lonati (c.1645-post 1701) hanno destato l’interesse degli studiosi e degli esecutori, i quali hanno preso in considerazione singoli aspetti della sua biografia e della sua produzione. Tuttavia, il processo di riscoperta e di recupero è stato ostacolato dalla mancanza di un’investigazione complessiva e integrata, capace tanto di dar conto della poliedricità di Lonati – violinista, compositore, cantante, didatta – quanto di riesaminare e ricontestualizzare le sue composizioni. Questa dissertazione tenta di colmare tale lacuna e propone una riconsiderazione di Lonati alla luce della sua produzione per violino. L’impiego di un approccio circolare fa in modo che mentre le composizioni violinistiche offrono un canale privilegiato allo studio del percorso artistico e dell’opera di questo compositore, la riconsiderazione critica della biografia permette di calare la musica per violino in un contesto ampio, oltre le distinzioni tra generi. L’integrazione di approcci metodologici differenti ha permesso di proporre una visione completamente nuova del compositore e di riformulare lo studio delle sonate violinistiche. Uno scrupoloso studio codicologico e filologico ha investito quattro testimoni a stampa e diciannove manoscritti e ha permesso di riconsiderare profondamente alcune composizioni già individuate. Suddivise in certe, attribuibili e dubbie, le trentuno sonate sono state poste sotto la lente di diverse prospettive interpretative e analitiche e appaiono differenti per tradizione e statuto testuale, stile, forma e scrittura. Il quadro multiforme che esse descrivono permette un approccio trasversale al repertorio violinistico e strumentale europeo del tardo Sei e del primo Settecento e introduce questioni relative all’autorialità, all’attribuzionismo e ai concetti di opus, creatività e stile. L’edizione critica delle diciannove sonate per violino inedite offre un primo confronto con questo repertorio; l’inventario di tutte le composizioni oggi note attribuite a Lonati fornisce invece le basi per i prossimi studi.

The exact mechanisms of the exercise induced adaptations is not lucid, but recent studies have delineated two means of signaling by which the adaptations occur (1) substrate availability signaling (metabolic stress) (2) hormone-receptor signaling. We have decided to specifically investigate two metabolic signaling enzymes [AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) and Sirtuin 1(SIRT1)] and two hormones [Adiponectin and Adrenergic stimulation].Tis based on four papers with the following conclusions: (1)Increase in SIRT1 activity and expression in H9c2 cells treated with phenylephrine is an adaptive response to the hypertrophic stress, mediated by AMPK. (2)The lack of optimal nutritional conditions (energetic substrates) due to a prolonged activation of AMPK can contrast the establishment of hypertrophy, possibly also by means of the negative modulation of ODC activity. (3) Our findings offer a possibile hypothesis as to the fact the the G allele on site 45 could lead to the increasd risk of Type II diabetes through a decrease in lean body mass. (4) Our results suggest that there is an ADIPOQ gene effect in relation to bone parameters. Statistical analysis show that the presence of the T allele in position 45 favors an increase in lumbar spine bone mineral content (BMC) when compared to subjects with a G allele substitution, which can be do the the increase in lean body mass in this genotype group.

The present dissertation focuses on the dual number in Ancient Greek in a diachronical lapse stretching from the Mycenaean age to the Attic Drama and Comedy of the 5th century BC. In the first chapter morphological issues are addressed, chiefly in a comparative perspective. The Indo European evidence on the dual is hence gathered in order to sketch patterns of grammaticalisation and paradigmatisation of specific grams, growing increasingly functional within the Greek domain. In the second chapter syntactical problems are tackled. After a survey of scholarly literature on the Greek dual, we engage in a functional and typological approach, in order to disentangle some biased assessments on the dual, namely its alleged lack of regularity and intermittent agreement. Some recent frameworks in General Linguistics provide useful grounds for casting new light on the subject. Internal Reconstruction, for instance, supports the facultativity of the dual in each and every stage of its development; Typology and the Animacy Hierarcy add precious cross linguistical insight on the behaviour of the dual toward agreement. Glaring differences also arise as to the adoption — or avoidance — of the dual by different authors. Idiolectal varieties prove in fact conditioned by stylistical and register necessity. By means of a comparison among Epics, Tragedy and Comedy it is possible to enhance differences in the evaluation of the dual, which led sometimes to forms of ‘censure’ — thus triggering the onset of competing strategies to express duality. The last two chapters delve into the tantalising variety of the Homeric evidence, first of all in an account of the notorious issue of the Embassy of Iliad IX, and last in a commentary of all significant Homeric duals — mostly represented by archaisms, formulae, and ad hoc coinages.

This work is focused on the analysis of sea–level change (last century), based mainly on instrumental observations. During this period, individual components of sea–level change are investigated, both at global and regional scales. Some of the geophysical processes responsible for current sea-level change such as glacial isostatic adjustments and current melting terrestrial ice sources, have been modeled and compared with observations. A new value of global mean sea level change based of tide gauges observations has been independently assessed in 1.5 mm/year, using corrections for glacial isostatic adjustment obtained with different models as a criterion for the tide gauge selection. The long wavelength spatial variability of the main components of sea–level change has been investigated by means of traditional and new spectral methods. Complex non–linear trends and abrupt sea–level variations shown by tide gauges records have been addressed applying different approaches to regional case studies. The Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition technique has been used to analyse tide gauges records from the Adriatic Sea to ascertain the existence of cyclic sea-level variations. An Early Warning approach have been adopted to detect tipping points in sea–level records of North East Pacific and their relationship with oceanic modes. Global sea–level projections to year 2100 have been obtained by a semi-empirical approach based on the artificial neural network method. In addition, a model-based approach has been applied to the case of the Mediterranean Sea, obtaining sea-level projection to year 2050.
