Two-dimensional numerical approach for the vibration isolation analysis on thin walled wave barriers in poroelastic soils.

[EN]This paper is concerned with the vibration isolation efficiency analysis of total or partially buried thin walled wave barriers in poroelastic soils. A two-dimensional time harmonic model that treats soils and structures in a direct way by combining appropriately the conventional Boundary Element Method (BEM), the Dual BEM (DBEM) and the Finite Element Method es developed to this aim.

Adaptive Finite Element Method with a local element parametrization nested meses

[EN]This work presents a novel approach to solve a two dimensional problem by using an adaptive finite element approach. The most common strategy to deal with nested adaptivity is to generate a mesh that represents the geometry and the input parameters correctly, and to refine this mesh locally to obtain the most accurate solution. Preliminary approach to the hatchlings sex-ratio of a population of Caretta caretta of Boavista island, Cape Verde Archipielago (Western Africa).

[EN] A nesting population of loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta has recently been described for Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde Archipelago (Western Africa). Since 1998, “Projecto Cabo Verde Natura 2000” has monitored three beaches during the turtle breeding season. The beaches being monitored - Calheta, Errata and Ponta Cosme - are located in the southeast part of Boa Vista Island. This work intends to give a first insight into the Boa Vista Island sea turtle population’s sex ratio using a histological approach, as sexual determination in sea turtles is known to be temperature-dependent (TSD or temperature-dependent sex determination).
