[EN] This article deals with the notion of boundary in maritime societies along Atlantic Andalusia and the Canary Islands at the turn of the 16th century, which is defined by three main axes of relationship. The first one focuses on its spatial distribution; the second one, the economic relations developed within it; and the third one, in the shaping of their societies, taking into account cross-border cultures shaped within them. All of this aimed at defining similarities and differences between both contexts, and also between sea and land borders.

[EN] We describe 12 new polymorphic dinucleotide microsatellite loci and multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction conditions from the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta caretta. Levels of polymorphism were assessed in 50 individuals from the nesting population of the Cape Verde Islands.

[EN] The Cape Verde nesting population of loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) is the third largest population of this species in the world. For conservation purposes, it is essential to determine how these reptiles respond to different types of anthropogenic contaminants. We evaluated the presence of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the plasma of adult nesting loggerheads from Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde, and studied the effects of the contaminants on the health status of the turtles using hematological and biochemical parameters. All turtles had detectable levels of non-dioxin like PCBs, whereas dioxin-like congeners (DL-PCBs) were detected in only 30% of the turtles.
