This edition of the Bulletin provides a report on the Conference on the Effect of the Year 2000 Problem (Y2K) on Transport Systems in the Western Hemisphere, which was held in Cancún, Mexico, in May 1999. Also included is an analysis of sea transport in South America, prepared and presented by the Uruguayan delegation at the Fifth Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of Ministers of Transport, Communications and Public Works of South America, held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in April 1999.

The Third Western Hemisphere Transportation Ministerial meeting was held in New Orleans, Lousiana, United States, from 14 to 16 December 1998, under the theme Transportation in the 21st Century: A Vision for Integration. The meeting was attended by Ministers and heads of delegations from 33 countries of the Americas, representatives of various international organizations and business sector of the Continent. The Special Session on Beijing+20 in Latin America and the Caribbean took place on 18 and 19 November 2014 in the framework of the fifty-first meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Santiago from 17 to 19 November 2014. On that occasion the ministers and high-level authorities of the national machineries for the advancement of women adopted the following Statement.

The second Caribbean Development Roundtable hosted by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, was held in Guyana, in May 30, 2012. The theme of the meeting was “Macroeconomic Policy for Structural Transformation and Social Protection in Small Sates.” The participants included the Ministers of Finance of Guyana and of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Ashni Singh and the Honourable Winston Dookeran, and high level policy-makers and regional and international experts. Special guests were a delegation from Brazil.
