Exchange and Cooperation Programme CELADE

El informe describe las actividades desarrolladas bajo el Programa de Intercambio y Cooperacion CELADE-Canada II (CCII) durante el periodo enero-marzo de 1989, en sus tres componentes: a) cooperacion tecnica, ensenanza e investigacion, centradas en encuestas demograficas nacionales, encuestas de migracion interna, uso y generacion de informacion en poblacion, estudios integrados sobre poblacion y desarrollo, cursos nacionales sobre la integracion de las variables demograficas en la planificacion, programas de estudios demograficos, cursos sobre tecnicas de analisis demografico, talleres, seminarios y publicaciones; b) intercambio, incluyendo el apoyo a estudiantes latinoamericanos en universidades canadienses, contratacion de personal canadiense y profesores visitantes; c) apoyo a programas, a traves de personal tecnico, servicios de computacion, materiales y equipos.

Competition and complementarity between road and rail transport in the carriage of freight

A seminar on competition and complementarity between road and rail transport in the carriage of freight was conducted at ECLAC Headquarters on 6-7 November 2001. The seminar was attended by experts on transport matters from a range of countries, and their presentations covered the current state of integration of transport in countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. Also in attendance was an expert from Central America, who spoke about modal integration of freight transport in that region. Three round-table discussions were held with the participation of representatives of the trucking and rail sectors, drawn from both the private and public spheres.

UNASUR: Fostering South American integration through development and cooperation

Today, six years after the signature of its Constitutive Treaty and 14 years after the first Meeting of the Presidents of South America, the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) stands as a union of 12 member States dedicated to the integration and long-term economic and social development of South America. With a view to achieving these aims, the Secretary-General of UNASUR has proposed three agendas: a social agenda based on the principle of inclusion, an economic agenda geared towards competitiveness and a political agenda directed towards deepening democracy and public safety. This document, UNASUR: Fostering South American integration through development and cooperation, was prepared by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) at the request of the General Secretariat of UNASUR. In follow-up to the earlier reports published in 2009 and 2011, it offers provide national authorities, academics and students, as well as the general public, an overview of some key issues on the development agenda of the nations of South America.
