The future of trade and transport facilitation: implications of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement

This FAL Bulletin analyses the implications for transport infrastructure services in the region of the future Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) concluded under the auspices of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Particular attention is given to the role of transport ministries in facilitating international trade and the concrete obligations and opportunities that will arise with the WTO Agreement.

Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade Implementation Survey 2015

The Global Survey on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade Implementation 2014-2015 is a global effort led by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the other four United Nations Regional Commissions, namely, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The goal of the Global Survey is to gather information from the member states of the respective Regional Commissions on trade facilitation and paperless trade measures and strategies implemented at the national and regional levels. The results of the survey will enable countries and development partners to better understand and monitor progress on trade facilitation, support evidence-based public policies, share best practices and identify capacity building and technical assistance needs.

Las tecnologías de la información en la facilitación del comercio y su aplicación por las PYMES

La presente edición del Boletín se basa en el material presentado en el seminario Information Technology for Development of Small-and Medium-sized Exporters in East Asia and Latin America (Tecnología de la información para el desarrollo de exportadores medianos y pequeños en Asia Oriental y América Latina), que se realizó entre el 23 y el 24 de noviembre de 2004, en la sede de la CEPAL, en Santiago de Chile. Este evento formó parte del proyecto Comparative Study on East Asian and Latin American IT Industry, financiado por el fondo temático para las Tecnologías de Información y las Comunicaciones (TIC) para el Desarrollo en el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) y ha sido desarrollado en estrecha colaboración con el Institute of Developing Economies (IDE), organismo que pertenece al Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Rules of origin in economic integration agreements signed by countries belonging to the Latin American Integration Association

This article refers to rules of origin included in the main Economic Integration Agreements signed by members of the Latin American Integration Association (LAIA). Issues relating to trade facilitation and reduction of transaction costs of international trade in goods are also discussed.The author is on the staff of the International Trade and Integration Division of ECLAC.
