El presente Boletín FAL exhibe los principales datos analíticos de la evolución portuaria en la región, analizando los impactos de la crisis económica en la actividad portuaria de América Latina durante el 2009. Adicionalmente se publica los primeros datos estadísticos sobre el movimiento portuario de contenedores a Junio del 2010, los cuales muestran una recuperación de la actividad portuaria en buena parte de los puertos de la región.

Port activity in Latin America and the Caribbean increased by nearly 60% between 2000 and 2007 in terms of metric tons of cargo moved and nearly 130% in terms of containers, growing to 1.6 billion metric tons and roughly 32 million TEUs. Based on data provided in the ECLAC Maritime Profile. This issue of the FAL Bulletin presents the main analytical data on port trends in the region.

La actividad del transporte marítimo por contenedores en todo el mundo ha expresado altos grados de crecimiento en los últimos años, especialmente después de 2002. Gran parte del crecimiento económico mundial se expresa y está relacionado con la actividad del comercio internacional, el cual se ejerce en un 90% a través de los mares.América Latina y el Caribe se han inscrito también en tales tendencias. El presente artículo del Boletín continúa con los anteriores de este año sobre la actividad marítima de la región.

This issue analyses how the crisis affected international maritime transport, both worldwide and in Latin America and the Caribbean, and provides initial projections for 2010.
