This quasi-experimental study describes the effects of a yoga sequence following hemodynamic and biochemical parameters in patients with hypertension. Thirty-three volunteers participated in the study (control = 16 and yoga = 17) for four months. Blood pressure measurements, cardiac and respiratory rate were collected monthly, while the biochemical profile was taken at the beginning and end of the program. To analyze the data, Student's t test and repeated measures analyses were performed. The yoga group showed a significant reduction of systolic blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate (p < 0.05). As for the biochemical profile, the yoga group showed correlation coefficients between initial values and final responses greater than the control of fasting glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. The elaborated sequence practice promoted significant cardiovascular and metabolic benefits. The yoga exercises performed in the proposed sequence constitute complementary non-pharmacological control of blood pressure in patients with hypertension. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.

Nowadays, meditation had become larger than the mystic’s scope, entering the academy through the scientific interest in this topic. Results documented for so many centuries or the experienced monks that practice meditation for a long time are the aims for researches that want, ultimately, establish the real effects of such techniques upon the human body. Research has gone far, and many effects can be evaluated using more precise methods, specially in the medical field and neuroscience, which had greatly backed up new discoveries about the correlation between the mind, emotions, thoughts and the body, making so that mediation can walk the therapeutic ways and complementary health with more certainty and reliable results, as it is happening with acupuncture and yoga. Facing a promising scenario in the correlation between meditation and life’s quality, well being sensation and happiness, there is the possibility of using it in schools, since because of the difficulties and present challenges, those factors are not commonly associated with the acts of teaching and learning, and acupuncture and Yoga have more restrictions because of their own limitations of time and space necessary for their wide application. Therefore, the current study focused on contextualizing the meditation’s fundaments in the scientific perspective, and apply it, even if qualitatively, in two schools of Rio Claro municipality, researching 57 students from Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA). Therefore, it was chosen only one meditation tecnique to be applied on the treatment group. As for the control group, it perfomed normal breathing, i.e., without tecniques. The differences were then analyzed through the filmings of all the sessions of the meetings, counting the number of movements and the agitation among the students for the two groups. Atualmente pode-se observar a importância da atividade física na vida diária da população promovendo, além dos benefícios físicos, benefícios sociais e psicológicos. Nesse sentido a atividade física, mais especificamente a ginástica sistematizada (Body Systems), hoje em dia adepta a boa parcela da população, se tornou importante para seus praticantes, visando à prevenção de lesões, normalizando as funções corporais e proporcionando descontração e socialização. O objetivo geral deste trabalho foi analisar a interferência das aulas de ginástica sistematizadas nos estados de ânimo de seus participantes. Participaram do estudo 35 indivíduos, de ambos os gêneros, estudantes do curso de Educação Física da UNESP de Rio Claro, SP, com disponibilidade para executar as intervenções semanais e que pudessem responder as listas de estados de animo (LEA-RI) antes e após a aula. Neste estudo foram analisados três estilos diferentes de ginástica, a ginástica com pesos, BODYPUMP, a ginástica cardiorrespiratória, BODYATTACK e a ginástica de condicionamento postural que provém de técnicas como o Yoga e o Pilates, o BODYBALANCE. Com base na analise binomial foi possível chegar a alguns resultados significativos quanto à interferência das aulas de ginástica nos estados de animo de seus praticantes. Ao praticar a aula de BODYBALANCE as pessoas se sentiram mais felizes, mais leves e menos desagradáveis correspondendo a proposta da aula. Com o BODYPUMP as pessoas se sentiram mais pesadas e na aula de BODYATTACK sentiram-se além de mais pesadas, menos tímidas, ou melhor, mais descontraídas. Isso mostra que as aulas de ginastica podem ser utilizadas não apenas para benefícios físicos, mas também com objetivos de direcionar para a alteração de determinados aspectos psicológicos

This research analyzes the discourse of teachers of ancient oriental arts, namely: Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan, Kung Fu, Lian Gong, Qwan Ki Do, reveals the meaning that subjects have about what are the benefits to health of those already considered practical alternatives conventional treatment of health. The research uses the phenomenological method specifically the method of the phenomenon. The method first provides a pre-reflection on the oriental arts, exposing not systematically, some curiosities changing between aspects of oriental arts: historical, main teaching methods, styles, the character of struggle, why are linked to health, the benefits of their practices, movements, philosophy, concepts, ways of acting, the roots, the basics. In this article the pre-reflection does not appear to meet the standards of Congress page limit. Rather concentrate on the next step of the research and present the phenomenon situated in the experience of those who have experienced it in the case of the five arts teachers mentioned above. The method performs individual analysis or ideographic analysis of the five discourses of teachers from each oriental art and then conducts the general or nomothetic. The result is presented an analysis of generalities, convergence, divergence and individuality of meanings expressed by the subject, to finally develop a discussion of these data and weave a synthesis. The analyzes reveal that Eastern practices currently as some of these five analyzed here, those involving aspects of struggle and concentration are excellent allied health development and well-being. Understanding the philosophical aspect is inherent in the practice of the movements, although the character of the struggle, which they transmit through knowledge of their origins and roots is the current thinking routine that generates a life philosophy of selfhelp, self-enabling and tranquility preparation to overcome the tensions, disputes, everyday challenges. The speeches also reveal that the psychophysical aspects of diseases are real, because the practices of movements and the physical drilling of these oriental arts have enabled visible improvements in health by working the mental and the physical in an integrated manner. Masters must have all the knowledge to better meet today's society, preserving these cultures, passing them through the generations.
